I have just started a walking programme to get fit and hopefully lose some weight.

For 3 dyas i have been moderately walking for an hour. My muscles..(all, but mainly thigh)ache come the evening time but there is no pain the next morning so i have continued doing an hours walking.

Today my muscles are hurting by early afternoon Confused

Just wanted to check i am not doing any sort of major damage by continuing to walk everyday?? or should i do every other day?

Thanks

I'm no expert, but I've had lots of stiff muscles. I would say if you can walk with a normal gait it's OK to carry on. I would build in a couple of days rest a week while your body accustoms itself to the exercise. If you want to do something every day, maybe alternate with something different eg swimming, or a little light weights exercise. Weights especially help with weight loss, as they build muscle which increases your base metabolic rate.

I also find a hot bath and a couple of ibuprofen help with the pain.

If the pain becomes the sharp pain of a pulled muscle or ligament, rather than a dull ache, then you need to rest.

No damage but are you streching after your walk?

Pulling your foot up towards your buttcock and keeping your knees together, placing your foot on soemthing a little higher than your hips and then slowly streching forward to your foot, a good strech will be of benifit and will help you aching so much
