Running tunes..what do you listen to?

I know this divides people into two camps; those who love the silence when they run and those, like me, who have to have music whilst they stagger with exhaustion run.

I've taken a bit of break from running over the summer and have an extra half stone in weight and an ever-growing spare typre to show for it Blush. Hence tomorrow morning I'm going to start again. I will!

I've got a running 'soundtrack' on my ipod but fancy something different. So, anyone got any suggestions/recommendations? If you listen to music while you run, what do you listen to?

Cheers

was just going to post this too

getting abt bored of my ipod selection, atm I like:

The Killers - Mr Brightside
Sterephonics - Dakota
Black Eyed Peas - I gotta Feelin
Pink - So What

and anything rock-y that's got the'right' beat for running - I need it loud and pumping!

any other suggestions? When you google it you get a load of stuff I've not heard of. I'm a bit of a rock chick at heart.

I like a good podcast, myself. Marathon Talk is fab, especially on long runs when you just want something to keep your interest and remind you why you're running when your legs are telling you to stop.

I listen to Simon Mayo and Chris Evans podcasts too. Listening to the radio works for me aswell tbh, I need a bit of chat in with my music, I think.

Muse are good, as is Guns n'Roses, 'Sweet Child O'Mine' - I am a bit of an old rock chic too it seems fustyarse.

Audiofuel are worth a look but I found them a bit too cool for me, I like something loud & pumping.

Reptilia by The Strokes is the perfect speed when I get into my stride! New Way Home by the Foo Fighters is another great one if you're a bit of a rock chick, Fustyarse, as is Jump by Van Halen.

If I get to the hill by the time Tatu's All the Things She Said comes on, I know I'm home and dry. I'm not going to share my other running tracks though. Too cheesy and embarrassing.

fustyarse · 15/10/2010 12:47

ooh yes,Foo Fighters...and Green Day...offto check iTunes

recently Maroon 5 have been keeping me company too (which is nice)

I need a beat to run along to!

UrsulaUndressUp · 15/10/2010 12:49

I listen to the Woman's Hour podcast while I run. It's got a terrible beat to run to but it's just about the right length and it's the only chance I get to listen to it in one go.

My life really really needs a makeover.

I have my running playlist on my iPod - it's pretty naff, a mix of dance and rock but I like quite clubby type tunes to run to.

I have:

Kings of Leon - sex on fire
Cascada - I need a miracle
Eric Prydz - call on me
Black Eyes Peas - I got a feeling
Cascada - Evacuate the dancefloor

Noisettes - don't upset the rhythm

As well as a few other rock tunes like Van Halen (why can't this be love), Bryan Adams (Run to you)

cestlavie · 15/10/2010 16:34

'Tis interesting. It depends on the type of run for me.

If it's a shorter run (say 30 - 45 mins) I've got a couple of playlists with tunes with a beat to them. One rockier/ indie list with stuff like:

  • Hard Fi - Hard to Beat/ Living for the Weekend
  • Vampire Weekend - Walcott/ A-Punk
  • Reverend & The Makers - He Said He Loved Me
  • Belle & Sebastian ? Boy with the Arab Strap
  • Glasvegas - Geraldine

Also got a dancier list for sunnier days to a put a bounce in your step with stuff like:

  • Just Jack - Glory Days
  • Mylo - In My Arms/ Under Pressure
  • Kids - MGMT/ Electric Feel
+ older stuff by the likes of Tiesto, Oakenfold, Groovejet, Fatboy Slim etc.

But for longer runs, tend to play longer 'best of' or 'import' albums which just sit in the background whilst I run, usually older rockier stuff like:

  • Bruce Springsteen
  • Guns & Roses
  • Suede
  • Blur

Lot of complexity to choosing this running stuff...!
