Change doesn't just happen, it's made...

£5m is hard to beat though

I think the point @Smeuse was making was that £5m is a bung for corruption. I am not sure it can be compared to what the government spend on immigration.

The investigation into Farage has not yet been concluded. If he has done something wrong, then he will be subject to whatever disciplinary measures are applicable.

My view is that it’s an attempt to discredit him as Reform is doing well in the polls. Had they not, I doubt if there would have been an investigation called for. Nor any comment on what he did at school 50 years ago.

Another example of:

Vote for us as the others are rubbish.

If Farage is found guilty, how will that solve the problems the UK is facing?

It is ineffective then, as those who like him will continue to like him as your post demonstrates. I think it is more likely that he is suspected of breaking the rules, is being investigated as any other MP would be, and he's key jangling to deflect attention as he knows he has been caught.

It doesn't, but it does remove one of the proponents of us having all those problems in the first place.

Vote for us as the others are rubbish.

They are all rubbish, which is a bit of a problem.

The comparisson of one politician receiving an undeclared sum of £5m with funds for immigrants is frankly ridiculous.

I am sure @EEexpat was pleased to see todays immigration figures.

If you read the BBC article in full, the totals are still higher than 2021. The most common nationalities are:

Eritrean, Sudanese, Afghan, Somali and Iranian.

There are no direct routes from those countries to Calais. So, they must be entering the EU by either the Mediterranean Sea or the Eastern European border. Both of which UK has no control whatsoever.

Yes. I voted for Labour in 2024 as a way of getting the Conservatives out. The austerity plan didn’t work out. Referendum without a plan. COVID not handled well.

Who I would vote for next I don’t know.

I'd like to ask you a different question...

Next time, HOW would you like to vote? For someone you kinda like or against someone you really don't? Or would you like to rank them in order of preference?

Would you like the UK to change the way we elect our politicians?

Now this is a good question. Since Cameron was elected, I have mainly spoiled my ballot paper as it is the only way I have of voting for 'none of the above' as spoiled papers are counted.

In the last election, it was too important to spoil my paper as I wanted to get the Conservative party out. I didn't really want Labour either, but they are were at that time the least worst (which is a pretty dire position to be in). As it happens, voting labour in my constituency would have been akin to spoiling my paper so I had to vote strategically.

How would I like to vote? Ultimately, I would like to vote for a party who I believe will manage the economy properly, take an appropriate amount of tax, administer it properly, protect the vulnerable, spend appropriately on defence, etc etc.

Since we don't have one of those, I have no clue. In the past it was easy to make compromise as there was usually a 'close enough' option. But it really is now the least worst, there is no good. The Conservative party is still rebuilding itself, but I would struggle to ever vote that way after Brexit. Labour are not covering themselves in glory. Reform? Not a chance. Green, hypnotic boobs, I didn't think so. Lib Dem? No different from Labour in that they may or may not be least worst, but would be a wasted vote.

I really don't know. Not bothered about the system changing, just would like to see some decent politicians.

Ardent remainer, not keen on UK adopting the Euro. OK. Reader, I got myself an IRE passport.

Thank you mother and father. And DFA.

A general election has not been called yet. So, there aren’t any manifestos to read.

I think many people vote tactically to ensure people they don’t like aren’t elected. Or they vote for who they think are the least worst.

EEexpat · 09/09/2026 10:30

@HappiestSleeping

I really don't know. Not bothered about the system changing, just would like to see some decent politicians.

Same for me.

I am waiting for politicians to say:

The problems the UK is facing are:

a
b
c
.
.

To fix the above problems will required the following actions:

a
b
c

The cost of implementing the above actions will be:

a
b
c

The government will raise the above needed funds by:

a
b
c

but it never happens. All we get is how bad the other parties are and why we shouldn’t vote for them. Mudslinging, point scoring and chasing opinion polls.
