Nature is overrated.

The Home Office opinion that the judges should ignore hard evidence of the Rwandan government abusing asylum seekers and instead focus on their promises to be nice is astounding.

"One of the site's benefiting from JET's research will be the new Iter reactor in southern France. It is the world's largest fusion project and is a consortium of many countries including the EU, Russia, the US and China - but a few weeks ago the UK government confirmed the UK would not play a role."

The Express is having a bit of a meltdown over the Poliah elections Grin

Brexit mega thread part 11: is fucktastrophy a word?
pointythings · 16/10/2023 10:11

I can see why the Express is in a tizz - after all, who needs democracy, an accountable judiciary and women's rights?

DuncinToffee · 16/10/2023 10:36

I see that Farage has called the AUstralian referendum result a Australia'n Brexit moment and that the elites have been trounced. Confused

I did wonder why so many beleavers joined the thread on the referendum result.

I thought it was their anti-brexit moment. They refused to vote for something that had no detail and was just vague wishy-washy ideals. They voted for reality today rather than fantasy tomorrow.

DuncinToffee · 16/10/2023 11:00

I have to admit that I don't really know anything about the referendum, I just saw Farage's comment and then spotted the thread on here. I probably should read up on it before commenting Blush

I don't know a huge amount either. But I've seen 'Don't know, vote no' was being used as a campaign slogan.

Because the much more useful "Don't know: educate yourself" would have been elitist and exclusionary. Remember: learning and it's associated benefits are akin to witchcraft in LeaverLand.

I'm assuming their point was that you cannot educate yourself on what a yes vote will actually look like if there's no detailed information being given on what it will look like. They were asking people to vote yes blindly.

But as I said, I could be completely wrong on that as I've only read a little bit about it.

It's probably a lot more nuanced than a yes/no vote could ever address (sound familiar ?). I read at least one quite highbrow article recently that pointed out the entire Australian constitution was steeped in discrimination to start with, and that adding in more, rather than removing it, probably wasn't the way forward.

Much like (until the 14th ???) the US constitution codified slavery.

He used to call radio phone-ins pretending to be a loyal Labour voter, turned off by Tony Blair. His voice was recognised and he had to stop.

Here is another Remainer* whinging about Brexit.

>Brexit benefit, low alcohol wine
From the article:
"The EU relaxed its rules on the definition of low-alcohol wine in late 2021"
So the actual benefit was delaying the relaxation for a year or so...

One trusts that the shiny new "British" relaxation will have unique features to distinguish it from the EU rules, otherwise how would we be able to prevent the import of nasty weak European "Wine" with our amazing "Brexit" border import checks.
