For some reason I have just remember Fury and a Mouse from the GodFather of Brexit, one Samuel Dodgson QRC, FMC, VRK and FU.

Every time this thread appears in my TIO I'm reminded how much fucktastrophy is actually the perfect word to describe not just Brexit but this entire government.

Lord Frost puts it on record in the HoL that he negotiated the agreement in bad faith.

Brexit was bought with a dud cheque.

It will keep on being referred to drawer (with the relevant charges) at every attempt to submit it.

Anyone else amused at what Russia has told the UK to say about Chinese interference ?

Anyone else amused at what Russia has told the UK to say about Chinese interference ?

What have they said?

SerendipityJane · 12/09/2023 12:59

DuncinToffee · 12/09/2023 09:21

What have they said?

Whatever was reported.

I can see Russia being quite cross with China. After all interfering in our politics is their thing. And fair play, while we were all terrified of Reds Under The Bed, they were quietly pumping up the other end of the spectrum with nationalistic horseshit.

Returning to Brexit. When will our useless trade minister be crowing about the Brexit benefit of allowing Apple to sell a non-EU approved iPhone in the UK ?

Admittedly a fantasy benefit, since Apple have no intention whatsoever of making a "UK approved" iPhone with a proprietary connector.

Let's talk about flags at the proms instead, shall we. Unlike Brexit benefits, they were real.

LouiseCollins28 · 12/09/2023 14:32

Just means everyone getting a new Apple phone after the change comes in needs to buy new chargers. A win Apple is being portrayed as a win for the EU.

Not sure what the fuss is about with the flags. Pretty dumb, yet predictable, of the RAH/BBC to allow people in with those en masse when it was so obviously staged but fundamentally people are allowed to wave the flags of foreign powers at the Proms if they wish to.

mathanxiety · 12/09/2023 16:01

Considering the last night of the Proms is held in the Royal Albert Hall, named after a famous forrin prince, and the prom season features a great deal of forrin music, not to mention forrin conductors, and is broadcast widely outside of the UK, I'm not sure at all what your problem is with flags that are not British, LouiseCollins.

Events like the Proms are an element of soft power. Parochialism in the context of the Proms is an example (alongside many others since 2015) of cutting off your nose to spite your face.

If you lived as much tech as I have and do, you would know this regulation was fought every step of the way by Apple. (One reason why US companies don't like the EU). They would still be fighting now if India hadn't also mandated a single connector. Which they did after the EU did.

Strangely the UK mandated adapter hasn't been taken up by Apple. And given their reputation for selling pixie dust, it's not a great advert for Global Britain is it ?

‘We’ve No Choice’: Apple Says iPhones Will Switch Over To USB-C Chargers To Comply With New EU Law

Future iPhones will ditch Apple’s proprietary lighting charger and switch over to using USB-C, currently used on Android phones and Apple’s own iPads, to comply with the EU law on common charging standards.

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/09/2023 17:16

Having to buy a new charger when you buy your next apple product that comes out and only then would be a definite improvement on the situation now. Making you buy a new charger every time you buy a new device is an Apple business plan.

Came across this today in Frankfurt en route to South Africa (12 hour layover) and thought of you lot Grin. I know, pesky foreign travel Wink

Had a great day in Frankfurt, marred only by the 45 minutes wait to get through "other" passport control, while watching the EU, CH and EEA citizens walk almost straight though the automated gates Sad

The deal is expected to mirror other agreements Frontex has with “third country” states, including one with Albania, which agreed to renew its 2019 accord.

It would lead to the sharing of intelligence of migration trends but would not address the small boats crisis involving people crossing the Channel by irregular means.
