Hi,

Longtime lurker and poster (under various nn) on Westminstenders and these threads.

I'm afraid the other thread op pissed me off a lot so here's another option for those of us that want one.

Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and good luck for 2022.

Ah, but Boris was doing his best...

He was so busy he didn't even know that someone was paying more for wallpaper in his temporary flat than many flats are worth. And goodness that person wanted Boris to spaff money in their direction, someone so busy as to not know that, must need a party.

I noted that @DGRossetti @Peregrina and @mathanxiety referred to a recent article about the experience of Alexandra Hall Hall. In case of interest a Glasgow pro-EU group had a first interview with her this evening, here's the link: twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1ZkJzblBwOeJv

Peregrina · 10/01/2022 23:58

Thank you for that link tava63 - I have just spent the last hour watching it.

May 2020:

Me; unable to visit my dying aunt and then watching her funeral on zoom

Mum: watching her sisters funeral on zoom and seeing her brother, masked, alone and weeping

De pfeffle and govt cronies: garden party piss up

Oh, how they must have laughed at us all....

So many heartbreaking stories. We were worried abou MIL, 400 miles away, isolating as she was told by the government. Not too bad compared to so many other people.

Latest poll ^
Uncomfortable reading for some Tories

HannibalHeyes · 11/01/2022 20:26

Don't forget; that two thirds according to a poll run by a Tory lord.

Which is like 99% in the real world...

💐 & for everyone else who endured such heartache. I saw my granddaughter the day she was born on the 19th March didn’t see her again until may,, my other granddaughter was bewildered why she couldn’t see us & just cried every time we phoned or FaceTimed it was a difficult time, but like the majority we abided by the rules.

From the NYT article…

ever more spiteful nationalism, press fealty sold to the highest bidder and a fervent, misplaced belief that authoritarianism could never set up shop here, because we simply wouldn’t let it

Although I’d amend it to … ever more spiteful nationalism, press fealty sold to the highest bidder and a fervent, misplaced belief that authoritarianism is the best means to reclaim the glory of the empire could never set up shop here, because we simply wouldn’t let it

Going by many of the comments on these threads, my impression is that many Johnson / Tory / Brexit supporters want the UK to become a more authoritarian state. These laws would only apply to other scroungers, benefit cheaters, immigrants, single mothers people and not them.

That the main reason for creating any of these draconian laws is to play to the populace and earn votes. Now, you might also argue that these very voter preferences are shaped and manipulated by a right wing media, but there’s a significant portion of population that would happily bring back the death penalty and not all of them are old.

AuldAlliance · 12/01/2022 08:55

My sympathies to everyone who was following the rules and struggling or suffering while the entitled wankers at the head of the country were enjoying BYOB in the sunshine.
I really, really hope this opens enough people's eyes...

Express headline today

Winning war on covid, fixed brexit, don't blow it now PM

Desperate times for them

Peregrina · 12/01/2022 09:15

When I saw the headline, fixed brexit, I immediately thought - when it completely goes tits up it will definitely be tied to the Tories - however hard they try to blame Labour/EU/whoever.

In the same way that in 1990 you couldn't find anyone who had voted for Mrs Thatcher, but someone must have done because she won them three elections.

Are you sure it wasn't a spoof ?
DuncinToffee · 12/01/2022 10:02

The headline writer trolling it's own paper?

Nothing would surprise me anymore

The Daily Express tries to introduce a note of positivity with its headline: "Winning war on Covid, fixed Brexit... don't blow it now, PM".
It acknowledges that Mr Johnson's leadership is "bogged down in the controversy".
But it insists that "he still has the opportunity to lance the boil" if he responds to the allegations with "clarity and sincerity".
