WTF Johnson and Brexit supporters. I’m not a raving vegan but this is nasty and indecent, this callous remark that killing animals for nothing is just to be expected. Shameful.

I dont get the logic of his statement. Yes animals die but they get eaten and the farmer earns a living. I presume the farmers dont get paid.

LadyWithLapdog · 03/10/2021 20:33

Exactly. Killing animals is what happens but to kill them for absolutely no gain, just to appease the brexiters is grotesque.

And to be so callous about it, so matter of fact. So much for his now wife getting some vegan prize in the hope of??? influencing him??? as if we’re in the days of the fucking Roman Empire and we have to rely on personal influence. What a fucking shitshow.

So many sectors are being sold out, there are two aspects to this awful situation - the animals having to be culled and incinerated, which is grim, and the financial impact on farmers themselves.

LadyWithLapdog · 03/10/2021 20:50

It’s all so predictable and sad and no one is a winner. No one.

It's despicable that they're suggesting this was inevitable. It wasn't. Good planning and a better attitude towards dealing with Europe would have prevented all of it.

RumblyMumbly · 04/10/2021 16:56

Alledgedly David Cameron and the Bullingdon boys club (including our reet honourable PM) found novel ways to use dead pigs...

Yes, currently these problems are a) not really happening plus also b) a positive sign of change Confused

Arsewipes.

LarryVeest · 04/10/2021 20:04

It's totally repugnant.

Upsielazy · 04/10/2021 20:08

It is wasteful, but animals being killed so their flesh can be wrapped in plastic packaging and sold to humans is pretty gross anyway. I'm sure the poor pigs being slaughtered aren't overly arsed about whether it's to be eaten or because there is no one to rip the flesh from their bones and chop it up.

No, but this cynical take doesn;t really take account of the impact on farmers. Plus those who eat meat then have to either pay more to import pigs or go without.

All in all, it is another sign that a) the Tories have messed things upa nd b) do not care about either suppliers or consumers i.e. anyone.

Upsielazy · 04/10/2021 21:46

Yes the Tories have messed things up, and I do feel for farmers as its their livelihoods. But I do find the aw poor pigs a bit odd when the whole industry is cruel.

LadyWithLapdog · 04/10/2021 22:56

I agree the whole industry is cruel and it doesn’t matter for the pigs if they die for literally nothing or if their meat is sold for £££. I’m still appalled at the wanton destruction of life and the total lack of decency.

"Animals die in the food processing industry, who knew?" says the PM to deflect criticism Hmm

Totally missing the point that these animals are not dying to provide food. They are literally simply being culled Angry

The pig isn't arsed though is it, either way its dying. It doesn't think ah well at least I'm being made into pork chops for a family to enjoy, and some bacon and sausages for wetherspoons to pop on their cheap breakfast; we make the decision that their death for x reason is acceptable, but for y reason it's sad. I do get it, but it's weird really.

QuentinBunbury · 05/10/2021 12:09

I do eat meat but I'm aware that animal lived and died to feed me and also that in most of the world it isn't possible to eat the quantity and quality of meat we can here.
I think its incredibly disrespectful and wasteful to cull these pigs because our supply chain is broken. Planning would have avoided a lot of this - but the government are unable to do that and are now passing the buck to "industry" to sort out. Missing the fact that multiple "industries" are involved in pig production, working the standards set by, you guessed it, the government.
Bunch of incompetents.

GCAcademic · 05/10/2021 12:18

Also, they are now necessary and inevitable, whereas previously they were “Project Fear”.

vera99 · 05/10/2021 12:42

We're culling the wrong animals now in Brexitland's Animal Farm.

Peregrina · 05/10/2021 19:16

When you think that significant numbers of people in the world don't have enough food to eat, including in our own country, this is potential food being destroyed. All because the Government couldn't be arsed to Govern properly. There is obviously no money in it for their mates.

PersephoneJames · 06/10/2021 06:16

I was reading this morning that we are going to have to import extra pork from the EU to fill the gaps caused by the lack of home grown British pork which we’ve killed and burnt. Angry

JingsMahBucket · 06/10/2021 09:28

@PersephoneJames that feels like something out of Yes, Prime Minister but a bit more gruesome.
