So Grant Shapps' solution to the shortage of lorry drivers is to allow them to drive longer hours.

Leading to more accidents and deaths on the UK's roads. But Brexit is Job Done and all is well - isn't it?

Anyone else catch Emma Raducanu speaking in Mandarin after her win ?

twitter.com/CGTNSportsScene/status/1436932312176873472

Which manages to eclipse my pleasure at Farage being handed his arse on a plate for bandwagon jumping after he said he wouldn't live next to a Romanian.

While Brexiteers zig, the world is zagging.

Yes, I saw that Smile

Peregrina · 12/09/2021 21:03

Presumably learnt from her Mother.

As for Farage trying to muscle in, or Boris Johnson... I haven't enough words to say what I think of them.

Yes, the internet has a memory.

I wonder if Wetherspoons TV (aka "GB News" aka "GBeebies") covered it ?

GlassOfPort · 13/09/2021 13:54

Speaking of news coverage, there are less than two days left to give your views, if you want Channel 4 to remain under public ownership

www.gov.uk/government/consultations/consultation-on-a-change-of-ownership-of-channel-4-television-corporation

The questionnaire is (deliberately?) user unfriendly, but you can also send a submission by email

Peregrina · 13/09/2021 14:09

Did the questionnaire, not that I think they will take any notice.

pointythings · 13/09/2021 14:15

I've just filled it in. Not much doubt about the outcome the government want, is there?

Looks like the Telegraph might be turning

One less source for CnPasteanova leastways.

Two points.

The Telegraph article is by a columnist, it's not an editorial.

And according to the London Economic's description, the Telegraph isn't saying that Brexit per se was a bad idea, just that the deal agreed by the UK Government was a bad one.

Peregrina · 13/09/2021 16:40

just that the deal agreed by the UK Government was a bad one.

Even that is a shift in position. Is it the first stage of a campaign to get rid of Johnson?

prettybird · 13/09/2021 17:07

Submitted a response to the consultation about Channel 4.

So many of the questions were biased Hmm, with the "desired" answer implicit in the question, as @pointythings points out - and I called them out on that in my responses. Grin

So did I. On one question I wasn't even subtle about it.

Peregrina · 13/09/2021 19:09

Same here with the questionnaire.

YouGov do that a lot. But it's what the customer wants.
FatCatThinCat · 13/09/2021 19:53

I missed the brexit bus which had energy prices doubling on the side.

Yet another great Brexshit win...

Peregrina · 14/09/2021 08:21

But pint glasses will be stamped with a little Crown again. How about that for a Brexit win?

Peregrina · 14/09/2021 09:44

Yet another Brexit win: Britons having difficulty bringing EU spouses in.

Despite the promises made by the Brexiters that they would not have a problem.

pointythings · 14/09/2021 10:22

But Peregrina that is a genuine win! I mean, these Britons are bringing foreigners into the country - isn't that why we did Brexit in the first place? They should have been more patriotic and married Brits.

Will they? I look forward to the riots when they try to reintroduce pounds, shillings and pence.
Peregrina · 14/09/2021 10:47

Now using Covid as an excuse for not implementing border controls. Funny that - how is it the EU have managed to implement controls despite also having to contend with Covid?

Once again, the seismic shift in the comments on the BBC are a clear sign that the Game Is Up.

I suspect there is a lot of worry at CCHQ that the next few election cycles will have to be devoted to repeatedly justifying Brexit - meaning they won't be leading but chasing the narrative.

HannibalHayeski · 14/09/2021 17:46

More sunlit uplands.

No environmental impact to flying fruit pickers 6000 miles, no, none...

Chersfrozenface · 14/09/2021 17:52

Talking of blaming things on other things, as we were, kind of...

The original FT story is behind a paywall, but Nation Cymru repeats part of it here
nation.cymru/news/boris-johnsons-tunnel-from-wales-to-ireland-wont-happen-after-all-uk-government-sources-confirm/

As the site says "A tunnel from Wales to Ireland won’t happen after all, the UK Government officials have confirmed.

Ministers had said in June that “high level discussions” were taking place about an underwater tunnel between Holyhead and the Republic of Ireland capital Dublin.

The plan would be presented to Prime Minister Boris Johnson as a “comparator” to the separate idea of a tunnel or bridge between Scotland and Northern Ireland, with only one of the two going ahead.

However, it has now been confirmed that the idea of linking the two islands has been junked, the victims of a crackdown by the Treasury as the UK Government tightens its belt post-Covid."

Yeah, post Covid belt-tightening, not the fact that it was a batshit crazy idea.

Though, per the same site, Dom thinks Bloody Stupid Johnson will keep plugging what he, Cummings, describes as “the world’s stupidest tunnel”.
