Westministenders: This is not the Brexit we voted for

ListeningQuietly · 08/04/2021 12:06

UK Shellfish industry destroyed because our inshore waters are not clean enough
Welsh Ports on their knees because the Land Bridge has found another route
Horticulture seed producers lost all of their mainland EU customers

Antique dealers lost access to their suppliers
Small businesses being told (by UK Govt) to relocate to the EU to avoid red tape
Brits in the EU discovering that stopping Free Movement applies to them too
Northern Ireland in Unionist flames because there is a border between them and Great Britain, but not the Republic
And the UK has still not taken control of its borders

Brexit is shaping up as predicted, but none of those who voted for it seem to have what they wanted

I certainly didn't see anything offensive in what Peregrina posted Confused Can't comment if there was any link to what Clav had posted that may or may not have been disrespectful as I scroll past his or her postsWink. If there is anything to be refuted in them, I get the gist from others doing so Grin

Peregrina · 10/04/2021 19:22

There have been a couple of posts on this or the previous thread which I have considered extremely crass, but I haven't reported the poster. As far as I am concerned they can stand and others can judge for themselves.

I heard Johnson's speech - I was actually expecting it to be very good ..... but actually thought it very hollow. It's almost as if he's trying so hard to make that speech of a lifetime , one that he will be remembered for , that it was completely devoid of emotion, compassion and humanity. ...... then I saw him on the news - I know it's his Schtick - but after seeing lots of photos of the Duke of Edinburgh, always immaculately turned out - I couldn't help think - if he gave Johnson any thought at all - he surely had a low opinion of him.
After watching the speech (it didn't get better with second viewing) the news program I was watching followed with a historian. He was suffering with lack of haircuts- but had made an effort to comb his hair with gel or water so he looked incredibly presentable. It's not a big ask.....

Nicola Sturgeons speech by contrast I thought was very good. Hers dang rings around Johnson's.

mrslaughan · 10/04/2021 19:31

Yep - I know that LQ - but I am still shocked that a government can destroy businesses through carelessness (while lying to said businesses about how it's all going to be fffffiiiiinnnneeee) - and then blithely tell them they just need to come up with a different business plan.

I am becoming increasingly worried about the economy..... and I know Covid has had an effect, but there's some pretty huge seismic shifts for a lot of businesses caused by Brexit. It's going to get messier....

Peregrina · 10/04/2021 19:40

It was depressing to read about the bi-valve mollusc business being destroyed, so I hope that the firms concerned are successful with their legal actions. But, I don't doubt that the Government will chose to defend such an action, and it will be our money that they use to do so. It won't be coming out of Rees-Mogg's or Sunak's or any other Government minister's pockets.

I was annoyed yesterday to see a Government advert in the paper about doing trade with Canada - yes, destroy trade with countries on your doorstep but instead hope to build up the same amount of trade with a country 3,000 miles away with a twelfth of the population.

HannibalHayes · 10/04/2021 19:44

@Peregrina - can you ask MNHQ to explain what was in those posts and why they were deleted? If there was nothing offensive we shouldn't let C&Pova get away with what the ThreeWordUsernames were doing during the campaign.

Peregrina · 10/04/2021 19:51

Well I have asked them. I expect I will get myself banned for doing so. I didn't even ask who wanted them to be deleted.

Now it might be a good thing to be kicked off MN because I waste too much time on it.

ListeningQuietly · 10/04/2021 20:00

Oh, bloody hell.
I posted on a thread about Philip and had two posts hidden for MNHQ to look at
and I've just realised what the word link was.
The connection between him and violence in Northern Ireland.
I am not a Royalist what, you guessed
but am shocked and shattered that such considerations have been brought back to the fore by Brexit Sad

Can we ask for a bit of peace and love on this thread. If you've got any concerns about posts or posters then just hit report and we'll take a look through things our end. Likewise, if you're not sure why we deleted a comment, if your drop us a line we can explain things of the boards. Flowers

TheSandman, vera99 and HannibalHayes

I thought your comments regarding the Duke of Edinburgh last night were inappropriate and uncalled for - no doubt Peregrina told you so herself - oh, wait...

Sorry, which comments?

mrslaughan · 10/04/2021 20:19

Shall we just start hitting report on all c&p's posts?
Very odd as we are all so tolerant generally- I do admit I don't bother with Clavs posts - but the regulars are generally very polite.
Are we no longer allowed to discuss the political happenings with regards to Brexit?

Apparently it’s not allowed to be indifferent?
TatianaBis · 10/04/2021 20:40

You didn’t say anything offensive P and neither did I. I guess someone winky wink keeps hitting report.

Well it would be P as you’re a great poster.

Someone is out to cause trouble and it would be a shame if MN fell for it.

mrslaughan · 10/04/2021 20:45

Yes and it appears someone is a sore looser.....doesn't like to be proven so unequivocally wrong after all these years....

wewereliars · 10/04/2021 20:53

Thanks mumsnet, we are in playschool after all

Peregrina · 10/04/2021 21:10

At least the Guardian now has a balanced front page on their website, with a good spread of national and international news.

TheSandman · 10/04/2021 21:19

Apparently it’s not allowed to be indifferent?

Apparently so, but who cares?

pointythings · 10/04/2021 21:35

@TheSandman

Apparently it’s not allowed to be indifferent?

Apparently so, but who cares?

Quite. When it comes to Prince Philip, I am indifferent as fuck.

Not my royals, not my feelings.
Not that I'd give a shit if my former Queen (Beatrix) died either.

daytriptovulcan · 10/04/2021 21:39

Someone with an stabby finger seems to care.

Or maybe it’s just a distraction technique from Mr Liar Liar (Shabby) Pants On Fire.

HannibalHayes · 10/04/2021 22:02

From twitter;

For the 8 day mourning period, newsreaders are expected to wear black, MPs are supposed to wear black armbands, TV logos are changed to black and basically everything is now black... Which is ironic because that's not something Prince Philip ever approved of.

mrslaughan · 10/04/2021 22:27

So who decides that Hannibal? Or indeed anyone know?
Is it the gov that decides?
