Westministenders: This is not the Brexit we voted for

UK Shellfish industry destroyed because our inshore waters are not clean enough
Welsh Ports on their knees because the Land Bridge has found another route
Horticulture seed producers lost all of their mainland EU customers

Antique dealers lost access to their suppliers
Small businesses being told (by UK Govt) to relocate to the EU to avoid red tape
Brits in the EU discovering that stopping Free Movement applies to them too
Northern Ireland in Unionist flames because there is a border between them and Great Britain, but not the Republic
And the UK has still not taken control of its borders

Brexit is shaping up as predicted, but none of those who voted for it seem to have what they wanted

I feel sorry for the Queen, but I can't bring myself to care very much. Prince Philip was 99 years old and had a bloody good life. Personally I feel more for all the people who are already getting hit with more austerity - www.theguardian.com/society/2021/apr/08/english-councils-huge-extra-care-bills-disabled-mentally-ill-adults

So where's that massive Brexit bonus, and why isn't it going on more council funding for the most vulnerable?

vera99 · 09/04/2021 17:19

Without Brexit Philip would probably have lived to 100 - Brexiteers have blue blood on their hands...

Clavinova · 09/04/2021 17:45

Kendodd^
did you see him in the video I posted?

Yes - but as far as I am aware the specific question put to Boris Johnson was regarding exports from NI to GB - not GB to NI.

Do you remember, he even conspired to have a journalist assaulted

I've heard an edited recording from 1990 - Boris Johnson was 'humouring' his friend from what I can make out. Did he supply the journalist's address? I know the assault didn't take place.

Do you blame Joe Biden for the 1,000 Covid deaths in the US yesterday? Angela Merkel for her recent mistakes in the pandemic?

What inspires you about the Labour Party?

It was still an explicit lie to business leaders in NI.

His own Brexit Secretary had given evidence to the HoL that export declarations would be needed to export from NI to GB.

It’s indefensible.

Kendodd · 09/04/2021 17:53

It’s indefensible
Not for Clavinova it's not, nothing he does or says is.

Kendodd · 09/04/2021 17:54

What inspires you about the Labour Party?

Labour lost me as a voter after the Iraq war.

Peregrina · 09/04/2021 17:55

Squirrels out in force I see.

prettybird · 09/04/2021 18:05

Are they? Wink

Clearly not an explicit lie if Boris Johnson repeated what his Brexit Secretary had advised him. It's not a one man show. Perhaps our negotiators were misled by the EU? I haven't heard of any particular problems exporting NI to GB. Have you?

"Giving evidence to the House of Lords European Union committee, Mr Barclay had said he did not believe exit forms would be necessary for trade between Northern Ireland and the British mainland."

LostToucan · 09/04/2021 18:17

Ah the usual disingenuous selective quoting:

21 October 2019:

Firms in Northern Ireland will have to fill out export declaration forms when sending goods to Great Britain under Boris Johnson's Brexit deal, Stephen Barclay has confirmed.

The Brexit Secretary was forced to make the admission after initially denying it was the case.

Giving evidence to the House of Lords European Union committee, Mr Barclay had said he did not believe exit forms would be necessary for trade between Northern Ireland and the British mainland.

But he later conceded: "The exit summary declarations will be required in terms of NI to GB."

www.politicshome.com/news/article/northern-ireland-firms-will-have-to-complete-export-forms-when-sending-goods-to-britain-stephen-barclay-admits

7 November 2019 - Johnson lies to NI business leaders.

HannibalHayes · 09/04/2021 18:18

What about all the other lies?

What about channelling public money to the woman he was shagging?

What about all the cronyism?

You really do come across as a bot...

Clavinova · 09/04/2021 18:20

Labour lost me as a voter after the Iraq war.

Oh, I was pretty sure you were going to vote Labour in the 2019 election.

Kendodd · 09/04/2021 18:24

You really do come across as a bot...
No, I don't think she does.
Johnson and the Tories are hugely popular.
I think even if we see a full scale return to 1980s violence in NI (God forbid) as a result of Johnson's Brexit deal, I don't think it'll make even a dent in his popularity.

Clavinova · 09/04/2021 18:28

Ah the usual disingenuous selective quoting

Not selective quoting - I was pointing out what Stephen Barclay had said. Presumably he wrongly advised Boris Johnson. What problems have exporters NI to GB faced?

LostToucan · 09/04/2021 18:29

So Johnson either had no fucking idea what he’d signed up to or just didn’t have enough integrity to be honest with NI businesses?

Neither is a good look.

Ellie56 · 09/04/2021 18:31

English people, especially the so called Conservative and Unionist Party, won't be bothered about what happens in Northern Ireland, unless or until it affects the mainland as it did before.

TheMancunianCandidate · 09/04/2021 18:34

@vera99

Clavinova singing "Nearer my God to thee" on the Titanic - iceberg what iceberg and of course THE VACCINES, THE VACCINES , THE VACCINES. Your mate Boris is a serial wrecker of everything he touches - you were warned royally about the clusterfucks he creates but hey ho keep on drinking the Tory kool-aid and keeping the statues safe and the flag's flying.
A very good summary! I start from the assumption that it is highly likely that there are shills on MN. That being so, they are currently most likely to be found on Brexit and vaccines threads.

Situation in NI is very depressing, but even more depressing is the fact that so many English people apparently don't give a flying one.

Anyway I am glad to see these threads continue - thanks from this intermittent lurker.

Why did Keir Starmer support the Brexit deal? He is a lawyer isn't he? They generally read contracts.

AuldAlliance · 09/04/2021 18:41

Here is a blatant lie (insultingly) uttered by Boris Johnson.
It's a video, not a c&p.

Sorry, I don’t remember discussing Starmer lying to NI businesses?

So, @Clavinova, did Johnson not understand what he’d signed up to or did he just blatantly lie?

TheElementsSong · 09/04/2021 18:52

"Brexit is going perfectly according to plan"

"These are not the droids you're looking for"

"Move along"

"Fish are friends, not food"

LostToucan · 09/04/2021 18:53

Funny how “But, Starmer” is becoming the new “But, Corbyn”, particularly since neither have been in Government in the last decade.

ListeningQuietly · 09/04/2021 19:01

I am pleased that Biden has taken the its an internal UK matter line.

Johnson and his ERG ultras got us into this mess.

They (and they alone) have to get us out.

Unfortunately they are not intelligent enough to do that. Sad
Kendodd · 09/04/2021 19:16

Unfortunately they are not intelligent enough to do that.
And they don't care enough to do that, their voters don't care, and they know their voters don't care and will support them regardless.

As I said earlier, what sort of country have we become that we can elect a man with Johnson's character and integrity. I think it says as much about us as it does about him.
