Westministenders: This is not the Brexit we voted for

UK Shellfish industry destroyed because our inshore waters are not clean enough
Welsh Ports on their knees because the Land Bridge has found another route
Horticulture seed producers lost all of their mainland EU customers

Antique dealers lost access to their suppliers
Small businesses being told (by UK Govt) to relocate to the EU to avoid red tape
Brits in the EU discovering that stopping Free Movement applies to them too
Northern Ireland in Unionist flames because there is a border between them and Great Britain, but not the Republic
And the UK has still not taken control of its borders

Brexit is shaping up as predicted, but none of those who voted for it seem to have what they wanted

What a pity that the Brexiters can't come and posts about the many benefits of Brexit which we should be reaping in bucket loads now.

OK we will give them the vaccine roll out, because that's the one trophy they will claim.

borntobequiet · 17/04/2021 11:23

Lovely to get a well-timed bit of whataboutery. Has made my weekend that bit brighter.

Peregrina · 17/04/2021 11:26

Did Clavinova ever come back to tell us what she thought about Johnson repeatedly lying?

HannibalHayeski · 17/04/2021 11:30
HannibalHayeski · 17/04/2021 11:48

That was to FatCat - for some reason my page didn't refresh...

Clavinova · 17/04/2021 12:04

Eve
anecdotal evidence for this - my brother who has a long term condition was unable to get some of his meds & pharmacy has no idea when they will be able to get them again.

But your link says;
The [pharmaceutical] industry currently has a 12-month grace period to make preparations.

Obviously not the cause of delays at the moment.

I haven't read all of the thread yet - the deletions are nothing to do with me.

yellowspanner · 17/04/2021 12:13

Fat at, George Osborne specifically said there would have to be an emergency budget immediately if we voted to leave.....this was because of the losses of disposable income.

Clavinova · 17/04/2021 12:29

Although the -ova bit does imply that it's female at least...

Perhaps prettybird doesn't have an appreciation of languages? Not everyone does.

Clav is the old version and will be retired shortly.

On the contrary, 'nova' means 'new'. I remember rote learning novus, nova, novum etc. in secondary school (two years of Latin).

This is a nice gesture. Much needed tbh.

RedToothBrush · 17/04/2021 12:31

I'm not convinced we would do similar.

DGRossetti · 17/04/2021 12:33

Clavinova could mean "new key" too.

Peregrina · 17/04/2021 12:40

I haven't read all of the thread yet - the deletions are nothing to do with me.

I for one didn't accuse you of being responsible for the deletions of a few days ago.

I repeated the question about what you think about Johnson repeatedly lying. I see you have chosen not to answer that.

ova is the female suffix in some languages, as in Navratilova - a male tennis player with the same name would just have been Navratil.
Whether it derives orginally from Latin I wouldn't know.

Not only has the video been viewed by millions here - it's also making waves internationally........

Well bad luck if they clicked on the Independent's twitter feed to watch the video as I did - they would have spotted these articles as well (thanks Peregrina):

A suspended Labour MP has said the “rich must be abolished” to combat climate crisis...

The Corbynista, who represents Leicester East, tweeted: “Earth is overpopulated; there are too many rich people. To solve the climate crisis; the rich must be abolished.”

Hmm. The 'that's the Shoplifters Defence' was a better comment from Keir.

Peregrina · 17/04/2021 13:15

But what do you think of a Prime Minister who repeatedly lies? Johnson specifically.

Clavinova · 17/04/2021 13:25

I expected better from Joe Biden.

LA Times 16 April 2021
WASHINGTON — President Biden kept in place Friday the Trump administration’s historically low cap of 15,000 refugees allowed into to the United States, a reversal of promises to let in over 60,000 people fleeing danger and persecution this year.

Biden’s decision signaled a break from his vows on the campaign trail and in the White House, as well as his broader rhetorical commitment to quickly replace former President Trump’s nativist-fueled immigration policies with a more humane approach. The move drew outrage from refugee advocates as well as Democrats, who criticized the president more strongly than they have on any issue in his first months in office — which prompted a walk-back from the White House within hours.

www.latimes.com/politics/story/2021-04-16/refugee-cap-immigration-migrants-admissions-biden-trump

Washington Times Feb 2021
Long-time celebrity activist Susan Sarandon is warning President Biden and the Democratic Party that political doom is on the horizon if they pull a stimulus “bait and switch” on voters.

“Where are the $2K checks you promised @ JoeBiden @ KamalaHarris ... she tweeted...
If voters feel like Dems are pulling a bait and switch, don’t be surprised when they don’t show up in 2022 or 2024.”

The liberal activist’s tweet includes a montage of Democrats promising a prompt mailing of $2,000 checks if the party was propelled to control of the White House and Senate.

Q: What do you think about a Prime Minister who repeatedly lies?

A:[Silence]

Noted that you didn't answer.
Q:What do you think about a Prime Minister who repeatedly lies?

A: What about Labour?

Q:What do you think about a Prime Minister who repeatedly lies?

A: What about the American President?

What about either of those?
Q: What do you think about a PM, Johnson, who repeatedly lies?

Comment - it must be assumed that Clavinova is perfectly happy with a PM who lies.

There is a lot of goodwill towards the Queen since her visit to Ireland in 2011.

@yellowspanner

Fat at, George Osborne specifically said there would have to be an emergency budget immediately if we voted to leave.....this was because of the losses of disposable income.
Very true, Osbourne, like his boss, isn't exactly one of our most trusted politicians. Both sides put out the worst and best case scenarios.....

But the point is, Leave won, so its up to them to for fill their promises on leaving the EU, i accept CV muddies the waters.

So lets look at something that isn't effected by CV, the NI protocol? Leave said they'd be issues, Johnson said frictionless trade, no increases in paper work or delays... all untrue, its more competitive to ship straight to mainland europe than go through GB....

Trade between EU/UK is harder and more expensive, many companies no longer ship to UK and vice versa.

As for UK fishing, a disaster.

Or as one of my leave voting friends said to me "if we don't start getting some real positives from Brexit soon, then it looks like we've been sold a pup"

Problem is, this isn't anything we can go back on.

jasjas1973 · 17/04/2021 14:07

Sorry, should say Leave said they'd be NO issues

Clavinova · 17/04/2021 14:23

But what are your comments on the actual video CnPova?

I thought the video was a bit 'lame' and used poor examples, e.g. Peter Stefanovic reels off a list of countries in the video with "working" contract tracing apps (relevant to June 2020) including France, Poland and Australia. What is his definition of "working"? Peter Stefanovic would appear to be lying himself:

June 2020
The federal government’s Covidsafe contact tracing app works as few as one in every four times for some devices, documents tabled in the [Australian] Senate have revealed.

The evidence for the first time shows the true state of the operation of the app, despite continuous claims from the government services minister, Stuart Robert, and the Digital Transformation Agency over the past two months that the app “works”.

www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2020/jun/17/covid-safe-app-australia-covidsafe-contact-tracing-australian-government-covid19-tracking-problems-working

July 2020
Coronavirus contact tracing apps are not all they've cracked up to be and those being used in France and Australia have flopped, experts warn.

In France, two million people downloaded the StopCovid app but only 14 people received alerts that they were at risk in three weeks of the app being in operation.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8510941/Coronavirus-contact-tracing-apps-flop-France-Australia.html

September 2020
Just 1.9% of the Polish population have downloaded the government’s COVID-19 contact tracing app since its launch in June. That is one of the lowest levels of take-up among European countries.

Such low adoption means that the app will not be effective, according to experts. The system, which cost around 2.5 million zloty (€0.6 million) to develop, has also been hit by concerns over privacy and functionality.

The hospital car parking lie doesn't sound like a lie.

This plan was abandoned by Mr Johnson, reportedly at the health secretary, Matt Hancock’s, request.

And Boris Johnson would be only too pleased to be "hauled back before the commons" to report that a record number of people have applied for nursing courses after the reintroduction of a bursary/grant for trainee nurses;

BBC Feb 2021
The number of people applying for nursing courses has risen by almost a third (32%), according to statistics from the university admissions service. ...

The government says it is "another step closer" to delivering 50,000 more nurses for the NHS.

Peregrina · 17/04/2021 14:25

But at least thanks to Covid, we are spared the sight of Johnson, May, Cameron, Brown and Blair attending a royal funeral, and instead see men and women of the Services enjoying the glory instead.

Clavinova · 17/04/2021 14:25

This plan was abandoned by Mr Johnson, reportedly at the health secretary, Matt Hancock’s, request.

I feel sorry for UK plant growers.
The EU will not accept their wares because of the international law
but the garden centres are full of EU bedding plants
because the UK refuses to implement the treaty it signed
