Westministenders: This is not the Brexit we voted for

ListeningQuietly · 08/04/2021 12:06

UK Shellfish industry destroyed because our inshore waters are not clean enough
Welsh Ports on their knees because the Land Bridge has found another route
Horticulture seed producers lost all of their mainland EU customers

Antique dealers lost access to their suppliers
Small businesses being told (by UK Govt) to relocate to the EU to avoid red tape
Brits in the EU discovering that stopping Free Movement applies to them too
Northern Ireland in Unionist flames because there is a border between them and Great Britain, but not the Republic
And the UK has still not taken control of its borders

Brexit is shaping up as predicted, but none of those who voted for it seem to have what they wanted

I highly doubt JasJas is checking up on you (not that it is against site rules anyway). She just seems to recognise your style. (I don't)

She probably remembered the rather unusual juxtaposition of a remark about helping with bees and the CAPS. I sort of did too, so wasn’t surprised to find this.

More small businesses destroyed by Brexshit...

LostToucan · 12/04/2021 17:55

Yeah, posting style is a big give away. Not exactly rocket science.

yellowspanner · 12/04/2021 17:57

Bornto, your screenshot shows a post using my current name.
JasJas specifically said..."a different username".
I don't have a posting style.
It's not the bees quote I am concerned about it is the checking upon my names.
I will ask MNHQ if it is allowed.

Re Radio 4 : Eddie Mair left the BBC in 2018

Andrew two steps behind^ Marr gives the Government a clear field.
I've totally given up on broadcast BBC news as its crap

The current cabinet are pathological liars who are lining their own pockets.
Labour are being astoundingly shit not holding them to account.

National Mourning
Lots of Government stuff is being messed about by it - meetings and planning approvals and election preparation.
It had a place when news took days to travel.
Not now.
The Royal family can cancel their engagements.
Nobody else should have to.

I don't have a posting style.

Everyone has a posting style. Some are more distinctive than others. On threads with regulars, you can almost always tell who is posting because of the style. When others join, one tends to clock their style as well. Anyone who readily resorts to caps will get noticed and if a post has other interesting stuff - such as the bees remark - it will be remembered.

Peregrina · 12/04/2021 19:20

As far as posting styles are concerned there was that person a few months ago who mocked up a name change almost identical to Clavinova, and made it look as though she had had a Damascene conversion. It was quite funny, but understandable annoying for Clavinova, and the poster duly got their knuckles rapped. I don't think it was any of us regulars.

But since we are talking of styles - a post with large wodges of cut n paste is a bit of a give away.

A post which included mentions of sheep would make regulars think of derxa because we know she keeps sheep and I don't know anyone else who does.

@mrslaughan

Well DH turned 50 this week abs still hasn't been allowed to book....
Keep trying this evening. Lots of people reporting they couldn't book a few hours ago have been able to later this evening. Its just taking a while for the role out to go through everywhere for everyone.
mrslaughan · 12/04/2021 19:47

Thanks for the advice Red - he's just tried again and got himself booked

mrslaughan · 12/04/2021 19:56

I will tell DH to try and book himself in, he turns 50 this year. I’m sticking with my clinical trial - I’m due the first of two crossover jabs this week, so I’ll definitely have had a vaccine at some point, I just won’t know when!

Everyone has a posting style. I often don't read usernames when I'm going through a thread but will be able to identify who it is anyway, if it's a regular.

Red lays it out, crystal clear. Shorter paragraphs, excellent summaries.

DGR uses the Hmm a lot and can be quite terse, but also references about 100 jobs he's had in the past. He also posts about disability related topics a lot, understandably.

LQ is the go to for logistics etc.

We've got various immigrant/emigrant posters, so that's easy to identify based on where they are referring to as their home country.

And of course Clav is a fan on the walls of copy and paste text. Grin

Brilliant news! Congratulations.

I've got my second dose on Thursday (occupation category) and I can't wait. Although I'm warned this one (it's Pfizer) might hit harder than the first.

Re Radio 4 : Eddie Mair left the BBC in 2018

Doh - my bad - evan davies now - the comment about him being withering stands - no way can that programme be criticised as giving the government an eady ride. Marr and Peston are cut from the same cloth, both keeping their noses clean to get the interviews. What do you expect from populist programmes - its not a bbc thing.

Evan also hosted 'the bottom line' "the eu after brexit" in no way following the 'brexit is done/wonderful'.

Peregrina · 12/04/2021 22:49

Shirley Williams has just died. One of the original Gang of Four who split from the Labour Party to become the SDP, who then joined with the Liberals to become the LibDems. Their influence is debatable - some say that they kept Labour out of office. Others that it forced Labour to re-invent itself as New Labour and then win office for 13 years.

Is wall to wall BBC coverage in order, given that she was part of quite an important chapter in UK political history? Smile No, I don't think so, although I would expect to see quite lengthy obits of her in the papers - but not the 13 pages that the Guardian managed to devote to Prince Philip.

About Prince Philip John Crace is once more on form.

ListeningQuietly · 12/04/2021 22:59

Shirley Williams was a legend
but no modern politician will talk about her
because they ALL pale in comparison
every
single
one of them

But posters on here see the EU through rose coloured specs. It can do no wrong and the UK can do no right.

You do realise that Northern Ireland is in the UK, right?

mathanxiety · 13/04/2021 05:39

Yes, Brexit is done and dusted alright.

Meanwhile, back in the 1700s....
After a turbulent week in Northern Ireland which raised questions about law and order and political stability, arguably the most disheartening sight was that of children as young as 12 and 13 being sucked into violence against the police.

Naomi Long, the justice minister, said she felt “ill” watching footage showing adults “standing by cheering and goading and encouraging young people on as they wreaked havoc in their own community”. It was, she said, “nothing short of child abuse”.

I think my style tends towards ridiculous hyperbole, only a left perspective and an argumentative style which gets confused for hostility or nonsense or both Grin
jasjas1973 · 13/04/2021 07:30

@yellowspanner Apologies, it was just an innocent remark.
I certainly don't have interest in looking you up, i didn't even know it was possible?

Anyway, the EU was never about lowering standards, its aim is to set a floor.

R4 Farming today said agri exports to the EU down by between 75 and 90% since Brexit
With many shutting up shop rather than continue trying to trade, others finding ways to sell to UK consumers direct.

Bit disappointing Hillary Benn had no interest in reopening the Brexit argument, really don't see how anything can improve without an honest look at how the hell we ended up with this mess
