Westminstenders: a feature of the system not a bug

RedToothBrush · 25/11/2020 16:02

Tests on the new queuing system in Kent have revealed that lengthy tail backs are a feature not a bug.

We should get used to them because thats normal not the system malfunctioning, but the planned system working as designed.

Today we have found out that there's no money left. The economy is fucked. And tomorrow we will probably all be in T3 with the Isles of Wight, the tip of Cornwall and inner Westminster the only places left in T1.

Christmas has apparently been 'saved' though. Well if you are dumb and lacking in functional brain cells its 'saved'. Trade for Christmas is already thoroughly goosed and indoor family gatherings may come with a extra side of covid. The BBC have done an epic job of 'doommongering project fear' style graphics on this wonderful subject.

Tis the season to be jolly. Jolly fucked.

So, we can agree that Farage clearly talked about a Norway deal for the UK then?

Your link is dated Jun 1, 2016 - published after my link. I couldn't see any quotes. Only this;

"Nigel Farage has repeatedly stated that the UK would gain access to the Single Market despite a Brexit, just like China and countries all over the world enjoy as WTO-members."

When did China join the EU? Did you read your link?

wherearemychickens · 05/12/2020 17:32

I'd be interested to know Clavinova whether you are stocking up at all?

ListeningQuietly · 05/12/2020 17:32

At least Farage is safely in the disease ridden northern half of Kent
well away from the area that will be affected by the M20 closures over the coming nights Sad

wherearemychickens · 05/12/2020 17:33

The only reason I'm not in a blind panic now is because I have food in the house that could last us weeks if it needed to. I'm not sure it would last months, but if that's the requirement, we're looking at the end of society as we know it and I'd rather not go there mentally.

wherearemychickens · 05/12/2020 17:35

Am regretting not pushing my DH more on a job he could have got in Norway. Sigh.

Clavinova · 05/12/2020 17:35

No, I shop daily - nice selection of food shops where I live - and within walking distance of farm shops.

ListeningQuietly · 05/12/2020 17:35

No.
We are looking at a reversion towards 1970's type food and frippery options
which will be painful
but bearable
and remember that most Brits are far too apathetic to do anything

SabrinaThwaite · 05/12/2020 17:39

I did read it and understood it. You clearly didn’t as it doesn’t say what you seem to think it does Grin

Well Lucky you! Maybe spare a thought for those who don’t have a shop nearby. Or can’t afford to go the farm shop next door.

Which will be ....60~70% of the population if not more?

tobee · 05/12/2020 18:02

Spare a thought for others? Not sure good Tories do that.

tobee · 05/12/2020 18:03

Ursula von der Leyden about to make statement apparently

squid4 · 05/12/2020 18:04

I don't read the copy & pasting, life is too fucking short. There's good stuff on this thread, but you have to do a bit of scrolling/ignoring.

We need meds though.

squid4 · 05/12/2020 18:06

Will there be medicine shortages in hospital? I'm sort of assuming they will prioritise it to us, but I have no idea really.

tobee · 05/12/2020 18:06

More delay:-

My hospital ran out of oxygen with covid the other week - if we are simultaneously out of oxygen and critical meds in jan/feb that will be fun.

I heard (a while ago) that nhs meds stockpiles had been used up due to Covid. No idea of this true or things been replenished?

wherearemychickens · 05/12/2020 18:09

Also the whole point of the stocking up is because you think the nice shops that you live near just might not have the food you want to buy in them. Doesn't matter how many you live near if that's the case. Got my answer though, thank you.

And yes, we are incredibly lucky in my immediate family that we don't need prescription meds (fingers crossed that continues). Not the same for both my parents though - they are on 10s of drugs between them :(

Whenwillow · 05/12/2020 18:19

My sister is T1 diabetic. I'm trying hard not to think about it Sad She still thinks it's scaremongering and I haven't said a word to my elderly mum because what's the point in worrying her?
We've stocked up on food and OTC meds, plus meds and wormer/flea stuff for the animals.

Andrew Marr interview (November 2015) -
Nigel Farage says he doesn't want a Norway deal - "those arrangements suit Norway...we can do something far, far better than that" - he wants "a simple free trade agreement with the European Union." When asked about the single market - "I would want access to the single market, just as China does and every other country in the world does, but I don't want to be a member of the single market."^

I don't believe there will be food shortages - it's scaremongering.

critical incident?

ListeningQuietly · 05/12/2020 18:29

The thing that the farm shop brigade seem not to grasp
is that
(a) a lot of the food is in fact from the same wholesalers as everywhere else
(b) when the supermarkets run low, the farm shops will be stripped clean as well

my lovely prize winning butcher was stripped bare in March
by new customers who had come from supermarkets
luckily for him, many of them stayed
but there is NO WAY he can meet the demand if Sainsburys are unable to restock for a week

TonMoulin · 05/12/2020 18:32

Clav my point is that you are looking at things from a completely privileged and entitled pov.

wherearemychickens · 05/12/2020 18:38

As the definition of scaremongering I've quickly googled is "a person who spreads frightening or ominous reports" I will own up to that. The more that prepare in advance the better. I haven't yet found a freight forwarder, or haulier, or customs agent making positive reports of what's coming in January. I would be /delighted/ if you could find one for me Clavinova.

The key point is that although the Government are fucking incompetent and utterly corrupt
Free market principles prevail in business
Where there is a need, businesses will try to meet it
and any business that gouges will be undercut
so it will settle down
DESPITE the government
rather than BECAUSE of them Smile
