Westministenders: Its the waiting that kills you

Just waiting.

Talks between Frost and Barnier still unresolved issues. There are rumours but 'all without evidence' (the new in phrase on BBC news tonight) that the UK is waivering.

Less that two months to go.

And there is the small matter of what happens in the US than might influence events.

Tbh i am happy that Biden's priority is sorting out the us rather than sticking his oar in on how we should run the uk like trump.

It means Johnson has less room to move and must focus his mind on the EU rather than trying to suck up to his idol in embarrassing fashion.

Ultimately whether we like it or not we can't escape geography and anything that makes us face up to that reality is in the long term best for our interests rather than living in fantasy land.

@pointythings

I've dug out my box set of Due South. Because Canadian in Chicago and also maybe Paul Gross, a bit.
You really didn't need to explain that choice WinkGrin

This house TV habits ....
the IT Crowd, Midsomer Murders, Red Dwarf, Mighty Boosh, Death in Paradise, Abandoned Engineering, Portillo's rail journeys, anything Neil Oliver
escapism r us

Left to my own devices I tried to rewatch Northern Exposure and Thirtysomething
dated or what

The champagne is still in the fridge

Peregrina · 06/11/2020 20:08

Portillo's rail journeys - yes. One of the advantages of him losing his seat back then. He did however accept defeat with grace.

TheABC · 06/11/2020 20:09

I am on series 6 of suits. The dissonance is astonishing. Everyone is just walking around within touching distance with no masks, hand gel or a plastic divider in sight. They even hug each other!

RedToothBrush · 06/11/2020 20:32

LQ looking at tonights timetable and the fact Biden is addressing the nation for the third night in a row just before any potential evening riots were likely to kick off, id say you'll need to crack open the champagne around 11pm - 12 midnight. Im willing to bet the networks have agreed informal timetabling to call Biden's victory ahead of that address.

RTB
I'm not a big Biden fan
but by golly I hope they call it tonight
the USA desperately needs a competent team leader

its funny because Trump criticised Biden for not naming any legislation
because Biden was an enabler

RedToothBrush · 06/11/2020 20:56

Biden isnt a president for policy. He is the president to make American remember its history and what its heart and soul is.

I honestly dont think any other candidate could do what he needs to do in the next few years.

He is the president who builds the bridge to the third era of the USA (1st being recovery followung independence, 2nd being post civil war restoration).

I don't know how many Americans realise that yet. It may disappoint many democrats but ultimately thats what he has to be for the long term future of the country (and liberal interests elsewhere in the world)

A lot more do than say so
hence why the election was a cliff edge not a landslide

RedToothBrush · 06/11/2020 21:20

Its the very toughest of gigs. He's on a hiding to nothing and he probably knows it better than most.

But thats what serving your country is supposed to be about most.

Now he has to live up to that first. Like i say. The very toughest of gigs.

ListeningQuietly · 06/11/2020 21:25

I have no worries about Biden.
He's walked into this with his eyes and ears wide open.
He is the leader of the incoming team.
He will do ferk all
He'll appoint a shit hot team
that will set Kamala Harris for 2024
he has ZERO to prove.
Good

Zixxy · 06/11/2020 22:37

Well IMO this was a referendum on Trump rather than a changing of the guard.

Doesn't matter if Biden is sleepy, he and his team will appoint reasonable people to run the administration.

Kemala will have a say I reckon.. Sleepy Joe can sleep away and sign things and that. He is not Trump that is the BIG benefit. And he appears to be honest and polite and careful. We shall see.

ABTrump lol. We are living our best lives without that Orange Moron. Doubt he will go quietly though.

HoldMyLobster · 06/11/2020 23:10

As an American, all I really want Joe Biden to do is not be Trump.

Just for a while, it would be so wonderful to not have a Trump in power.

And that's why he entered the race, and Imho I think that's a big part of why he's won.

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/11/2020 01:02

Thanks Red

You are doing a stellar job on this and the Trump threads.

Whenwillow · 07/11/2020 07:38

That's the way I see it @Zixxy
Still watching and hoping, and grateful for everyone on here, especially the regulars.

PMK (found you!)
Saturday morning, and still no (definite) 'news' from the US.
Biden is saying all the right things meantime though.

I too enjoyed Greta's tweet. Revenge is a dish best served cold, and all...

52andblue · 07/11/2020 09:36

@prettybird

That article by Rory Stewart about BJ was a brilliant and excoriating takedown of the buffoon.

It could also have been a description of the Orange One - with the major exception of the intelligence and wide vocabulary Wink

@prettybird missed that - which one please?
Peregrina · 07/11/2020 09:49

I can't help but wonder if our Brexit negotiating stance would have been different if Trump hadn't won in 2016 - more flexible and amenable to compromise. Now with the wrong man looking likely to have won, the Brexiters have a bit of a problem on their hands, and very little time to do anything about it. However, Johnson could u - turn and pretend that was his plan all along.

Thank you @prettybird (and whoever initally posted it x)

Thinking along the lines of of 'takedown of buffoon (s)'
Did anyone see Malcolm Rifkind's comments on Skye this morning?
He has just gone up in my estimation for his plain speaking !

52andblue · 07/11/2020 10:58

(though MR was speaking about Trump not BJ many comments apply!)
