Just waiting.

Talks between Frost and Barnier still unresolved issues. There are rumours but 'all without evidence' (the new in phrase on BBC news tonight) that the UK is waivering.

Less that two months to go.

And there is the small matter of what happens in the US than might influence events.

DH and I were discussing the order of calls yesterday.

DH said that if Biden is the peacemaker with hands across the aisle he claims to be then, ringing people he / the US arent on such good terms with but are strategically important / economically important / of world importance but 'enemies' would be a significant gesture and thus maybe the UK would get pushed up the list for that reason rather than because he views us as being a more important relationship.

I don't know the truth, but i would say that even if we were called first it might not be because we are important. It might be because we are perceived to be a problem that needs to be dealt with.

This reads like France, Germany, Ireland, UK in that order. And tbh thats what we should expect.

Or it could be alphabetical...

ListeningQuietly · 10/11/2020 20:27

I can imagine Biden calling Johnson first.

Hi Al, we'll chat when I've spoken to the people who matter, see ya, Joe

Good afternoon Angela, as soon as I've got clearance for my people we will make sure that co operation works more smoothly

Bon Jour Emmanuel, what do we need to drop he tariffs on delicious french foods?

Yo! Justin, we'll get that border sorted soo, I just gotta get the orange one out of the way. Chill dude

I suspect it's alphabetical as the article I quoted from above says they refused to state the order they were called.

LQ 😂 Al 😂

Zixxy · 10/11/2020 20:39

I May be wrong but I thought it was always land border politicians first like Canada and Mexico.

Given the caged children under Trump, a gesture there might be on the cards. How is the Wall coming on, will it be abandoned

The European leaders are in order of preference. But there is no confirmation yet is there about anything.

RedToothBrush · 10/11/2020 20:45

'Yo! Justin, don't worry i'll make sure you dont end up having to put a wall up to deal with people escaping armed militia and pharmaceutical cartels from the south. Chill dude.

And their app was effective and successful.

Relatively successful compared to other apps but not without glitches;

"A brief technical issue led some people to delete Ireland’s COVID-19 tracing app, leaving 1.2 million active users compared to the 1.65 million who downloaded it since early July."

Oct 21;
"The Taoiseach only found out about a collapse in the Covid tracing system when it broke in the media."

"Micheál Martin was not made aware that thousands of people who were diagnosed with Covid-19 over the weekend will now be asked to inform close contacts themselves as the system cannot cope."

"The Government has come under fire in the Dáil for failing to recruit the adequate number of contact tracers to respond to demand which means that patients are now being asked to carry out "DIY contract tracing"

"Sinn Féin president Mary Lou McDonald said the issue of contact tracing had been "endlessly" raised and claimed the "warning signs were there".

"It's hard to believe that we are nearly eight months into this pandemic and your government has still failed to get this right."

"The Taoiseach said "very substantial recruitment" is happening and said the number of contract tracers will increase to around 1,000 staff."

I didn't say it was bug-free.

Nothing to do with the app. Do you actually read what you post? Or is it just another squirrel attempt?

Singasonga · 10/11/2020 21:02

How many more weeks do the Tory headbangers have to make Brexit that WON'T see them chased by angry mobs around the country?

It's not looking very likely, is it?

Clavinova · 10/11/2020 21:07

Of course I read it - I was posting criticism of the Irish government.

TheElementsOfMedical · 10/11/2020 21:10

You need to ask?

Oh, of course. Because that is all so relevant to the topic under discussion.

Haven't you heard? Squirrels (at least the red ones) hibernate for the winter?

AuldAlliance · 10/11/2020 21:28

I was posting criticism of the Irish government.
QED.

SabrinaThwaite · 10/11/2020 21:54

Grey squirrels don’t hibernate, during winter they are crepuscular and come out early in the morning and in the late afternoon.

Nobody is too sure what they do in the middle of the day, but it has been reported as “going out now” by mildly disinterested observers.

52 days till the end of Transition
and STILL no clarity on what the regulations will be for getting food into the UK
52 days till the end of Transition
and STILL no idea what terms the UK will be under for its trade with the rest of the world
52 days till the end of Transition
and STILL no idea whether the UK will break an international treaty affecting its nearest sovereign nation neighbour

it would be funny were it not so shit

There's plenty of discussion about track and trace on this forum. You live in Ireland - I don't see why all the criticism should be heading in one direction if the Irish government are having similar problems.

Quite. It's insane how horrendously ill-prepared the UK is.
OchonAgusOchonO · 10/11/2020 22:27

@Clavinova - good try not there's no comparison between the mess in the UK and here.

prettybird · 10/11/2020 22:48

HesterThrale at the end of March weren't we having daily press conferences?

We still are Wink - every week day, either a press briefing or FMQs Grin

Remind me when the Irish voted to Leave the EU?

This thread is in the Brexit section, Clavinova. Not the Irish covid track and trace app glitch section. Or the Irish Leaving Cert issue section.
