I think that there may be a run on tinned tomatoes and pasta coming. Pizza will no longer have mozzarella in 2021.

On the plus side turnips are in season.

@RedToothBrush

The con MP has just mentioned Warrington numbers to Hancock ... yes he is worried about numbers in the borough and talking to leaders blah blah.

That might be news to the council who asked via the local paper to start talks at about 4pm today... They clearly hadnt been engaging prior to that. The council said at the weekend it was ladt monday they spoke to london and donkey boy himself said on sunday he last spoke last Tuesday.

I guess that's mildly better than being handed someone else phone with text messages on in the middle of a press conference, i suppose...

The text messages were just dreadful. I felt so angry watching that whilst Johnson was handing over to "JVT" today! The working closely with local councils seems to be a fairly standard answer from Hancock even if he actually couldn't find any of the places on a map. It's like that Beautiful South song - this could be Rotterdam or Liverpool. The mood from the northern Mps tonight isn't great. Hancock answers with " ... .. political point scoring..." I know I am not as well educated in things as most of you people and I have learnt so much over the years from these threads and are and I always try and look at different points of view. This Government is very, very scary... but of course Andy Burnham will be the mayor that killed his city or some such shite!
RedToothBrush · 20/10/2020 20:26

You mean the government lead by Johnson who came to Manchester to launch his manifesto for the north and stole every single one of Burnham's policies? And they were all dead popular in the north with people going 'at last someone is listening to us' ( facepalm the MEN run a story about this and i mentioned it here)

That government and PM?

Im soooo angry tonight. As angry as ive ever been over brexit related shite.

That is exactly the government I am talking about Red ! 🤬
I share your anger this evening.

No it's another one of those pay monthly type gyms, but in a similar area. I assume most people had come from Halton/Widnes way, although it's not far off the M62 if you were desperate. Yes goodness knows why some gyms are open and others aren't, surely it just encourages situations like this...

TokyoSushi · 20/10/2020 20:33

It'll be interesting the next time it's Manchester's turn for the Tory party conference to come to town, people won't forget this...

Im not expecting Johnson to show his face anywhere in G Manchester soon unless theres no press, lots of bodyguards and a nearby fridge.

Nope he'll pop up for another successful business and housing scheme in Warrington South.

Like May, Cameron and Osborne before him.

Its the ubiquitous 'northern tory photo shoot' that comes around every election time to show how well northern towns are doing. (cos Knutsford and Bowden dont quite cut the right gritty northern image).

Fanboy Andy Carter will probably wet himself with excitement.

They r doing everything to discredit Andy Burnham. It will be a travesty if he loses his mayorship. I hope the people on Manchester won't blame him when they have no support money☹️

colouringindoors · 20/10/2020 20:41

Just when you thought the Tories couldn't get any more disgusting Angry I am f**king scared of what they will have done by the next GE AngrySad

I actually gave Burnham a little spontaneous clap when I watched his "levelling up" bit at the press conference.

That's how you do politics.

(Though I think for Burnham this is clearly more than just politics: it's so effective because it's heartfelt too. We're not used to seeing that any more).

IMB defeated in the HoL - www.irishtimes.com/news/world/uk/brexit-uk-government-suffers-heavy-defeat-over-law-breaking-bill-in-house-of-lords-1.4386378

In practical terms, what does that actually mean? They can only delay, right? But can they delay it long enough that it's effectively a dead duck?

A lot depends on whether they can get away with calling it a "manifesto" bill. Which considering it contradicts the WA which was ... a manifesto bill ... will be interesting.
ListeningQuietly · 20/10/2020 21:43

Indeed
the IMB contradicts the oven ready deal in the December manifesto
so the Lords would be in their right to hold out
and the bar council is already warning all lawyers not to vote in favour of it ...

I'm not familiar with the nitty gritty of UK parliamentary protocol, so don't know what that means. I thought the HoL could delay any bill/law. Is that not the case?

ListeningQuietly · 20/10/2020 21:46

Ochon
Protocol is that the HoL does not block manifesto pledges
but this bill contradicts a pledge

OchonAgusOchonO · 20/10/2020 21:51

@ListeningQuietly

Ochon Protocol is that the HoL does not block manifesto pledges but this bill contradicts a pledge
So there are exceptions to what they can block or is it just tradition that they don't block them?

Is a manifesto bill something they promised in their manifesto?

To lighten the mood somewhat I confidently predict that there will be an agreement of sorts before 31/12.

It is all posturing and hubris now from UK to their Brexiteer followers. Soundbytes if you like.

Everyone knows (even the EU) that No Deal is not going to do anyone any favours, it is how to sell the sell out by the UK to the Brexiteers lol, that is the problem. But I am sure Cummings has that sorted.

Not after today I don't think there will be. No chance at all.

Who knows? not sure why you said 'even the EU' they are the only adults in the room.

Neither side wants to be seen to be walking out but Bojo doesn't care, if he can be the "strongman" standing up to a bullying EU, that'll do nicely.

Economic damage blamed on CV/EU/Irish/Remoaners/Carrie...

Zeebeezee · 20/10/2020 22:12

RedToothBrush,

Was tongue in cheek, but hopefully sense will prevail.

Am looking on aghast from ROI. We will be horribly impacted by No Deal, and along with Covid it is not an enticing vista.

Zeebeezee · 20/10/2020 22:15

jasjas1973

I merely meant that EU knows how awful No Deal will be, whereas UK doesn't seem to care. But it is a game now, you only have to see the spin blaming the EU for prevaricating.

Hope. Sense.

What are these things you speak of?

OP posts:
Sostenueto · 20/10/2020 22:15

So 6 of the 9 Tory MPs in the 27 constituencies if Greater Manchester have written to Andy Burnham to express their disappointment he could not come to agreement with the Government. Brady is not one of them. So knives out for poor Andy. ☹️. And Hancock's performance dire.

Zeebeezee · 20/10/2020 22:18

RedToothBrush.

I live in hope. I am living in a country that will be severely impacted by No Deal.

But no matter what, we will still be in the EU and I hope they will stand by us, which they said the would. Better to be inside the tent and all that.
