So having given the benefit of the doubt...

... whats your reflections?

Good (and yes do have some thoughts on the positive - challenge yourself on this one as its important) and the bad (and yes this is the easy bit but keep it within reason)?

I'm baffled by the deletion

yoikes said her DS's future was being ruined by some old racists
Didn't name any posters, so I'm not sure how it could be against MN rules

  • except that MN seems more tolerant to racist posts and possibly more sensitive to the hurt feelings of racists

She didn't actually say it was due to Brexit, or due to people insulting him in the street

  • I've no idea of her / their skin colour but the police have reported that crimes of racial abuse have risen since the ref over the last few years
yoikes · 04/08/2020 14:56

I used the term "slobbering racists"
Guess clav et al are feeling snowflakey today:)

yoikes · 04/08/2020 14:57

Mnhq are losing the fucking plot.
Did you see that eid thread???
Horrendous dog whistle racist posts on there let stand!

BigChocFrenzy · 04/08/2020 14:59

You didn't specify that the slobberers were Brexiters / leavers, or indeed anything about their politics

Interesting that whoever reported presumably felt it referred to them or their chums Hmm

BigChocFrenzy · 04/08/2020 15:01

..... Yes, that's what annoys me about MN deletion policy:

"MN seems more tolerant to racist posts and possibly more sensitive to the hurt feelings of racists"

pointythings · 04/08/2020 15:02

Well, Brexit and COVID are going so well that certain sections of the MN population are probably feeling a bit twitchy - and they do tend to go for the banhammer when it's like that. We've already lost some valued posters on these threads thanks to that kind of behaviour, sadly.

BigChocFrenzy · 04/08/2020 15:02

I don't care if this hurts feelings again:

racists are scum

prettybird · 04/08/2020 15:03

You also just said "a few " Confused

BigChocFrenzy · 04/08/2020 15:14

and they are the ones complaining about "cancel culture" and snowflakes who can't tolerate different views ... Confused

BigChocFrenzy · 04/08/2020 15:19

Those who complain about cancel culture are from the group who keep starting AIBU threads about how terrible it that posts expressing rightwing views get criticised, that most MNers disagree with them
and they feel shut out

Basically, they want complete freedom to express racist and far right views,
but want to shut down views from the left and centre

That's not everyone from the right btw just the doctrinaire hard / far right
Since I vote for a right of centre conservative party in Germany, I'm to the right of most MNers !
as my recent posts on benefits indicate too

DGRossetti · 04/08/2020 15:26

Many thanks for the support. All back to rights now. Indeed, DS was giving me some tips on preparing a video pitch to leapfrog those organisations that insist on cvs.

Regarding MNHQ ... I know from personal experience that absent a clearly stated posting policy, they can be very inconsistent - and wrong - in their moderation. Moreover, they are willing to allow misleading posts to stand in order to save hurting other posters feelings. One reason why much as I value MN (I've learned so much from the "Relationships" board) they won't ever see a penny from me.

pointythings · 04/08/2020 15:31

Same here. MN moderation will have to improve out of all recognition before I'm prepared to pay a subscription.

Is this why Mockers hasn't been on the any of the WM threads for a while?
HesterThrale · 04/08/2020 15:39

Some people don’t want the truth on display. yoikes made a good point - that young people’s horizons are narrower. A student I know has learnt that doing a Masters in an EU country will now cost shedloads more (e.g. in one country, eight times as much) for a British citizen. Therefore unattainable. And will have to stay in the U.K.

Makes me very sad.

(Before certain folks say anything, I don’t dislike the U.K. But there are opportunities elsewhere not available here.)

DGRossetti · 04/08/2020 15:43

Trying to keep the flag flying for Brexit must be like whack-a-mole. It was was easy to start with. But as each day brings the no-deal Boris wanted all along closer, the whole thing is leaking from all pores.

So much so, that Johnson snr. has again been wheeled out to deflect blame from Boris. The article upthread was TL:DR "Don't blame Boris, it's the other cunts".

DGRossetti · 04/08/2020 15:59

Apres moi ... le deluge Sad

www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-08-04/northern-ireland-faces-brexit-food-time-bomb-on-new-paperwork

...

In addition to possible pullouts from the market, other options for U.K. supermarkets include raising prices or limiting the ranges they offer customers, said Clive Black, a retail analyst at Shore Capital Group Ltd.

“This is a potential total and utter cataclysmic disaster for the Northern Irish economy and consumers,” he said. “The viability of the grocery industry in Northern Ireland is now in question, which could have a knock-on impact on pricing and choice for the Northern Irish consumer.”

prettybird · 04/08/2020 16:02

Apparently yoikes post was deleted because it was ageist Confused

So the statistical fact that a greater number of old people voted for something that affects detrimentally young people more is something that we're not supposed to call out and be upset about ConfusedAngry

I rarely report posts but I might start doing so more often to highlight the double-standards. Hmm

GeistohneGrenzen · 04/08/2020 16:03

DrBlackbird you could be right. Just tried an advanced search and there appear to be no messages. I could only remember the earlier name where knockers were absent but nothing from a long time back. I might not have typed the whole name correctly though!

It seems odd because another very well known victim of the banhammer has masses of posts listed...

When you do can you make sure you also post in the thread that you have done so ? After all just because you can do it silently with one click doesn't mean you should when you can do it in four ....

Mockers used to post regularly in a succinct but entirely humorous and yet cynical manner that had my approval. User name was Mockerssociallydistancing or something like that and they had posted quite frequently over the WM threads, but they've not been on to post for a long time. It got me to wondering and worrying a bit. I suppose folks do come and go as other things go on in their lives.
HesterThrale · 04/08/2020 16:17

We really haven’t got to grips with this thing yet.
It seems that in July the number of UK deaths was nearly 2,500.
Way, way, way more than other EU nations.

I’m surprised more of them haven’t slapped travel bans on us.

I'd guess that if that were to happen it would be a united effort. Otherwise you'd just get Stanley Johnson tweeting how he go round it.

There's also a historical dimension that as usual (most) Brits just won't get with their selective and wrong fetish about WW2.

ListeningQuietly · 04/08/2020 16:48

I am delighted for Yoikes that her son is only a few weeks away from becoming her designated driver Grin

I am delighted that DGR's son is handy with an epee

I am delighted that prettybirds son is rather good at tackling.

Probably best if we keep them all away from JeSuisPoulets DDs birthday party.

I am beyond incandescently furious that the ferkwits running this omnishambles of a clusterfuck
are persisting with Brexit when COVID will be damaging economies and prospects for our kids for years to come Angry

DGRossetti · 04/08/2020 17:00

Not so much for Beaus talk (although it is worth it) but more the comments noting that the EU (especially Schengen) is another example, while literally no one is using the UK as an example.

DGRossetti · 04/08/2020 17:17

meanwhile Donald Trump still makes Boris look flaky ....
