Westministenders: Reployed back to No Deal Planning

Now Covid-19 is over (yeah I know right) lots of civil servants who were switched from brexit no deal planning to covid-19 planning have been switched back to their original remit.

For some reason this doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

We've also seen yet another doubling down on the EU not being flexible and how they need to make a deal. And lots of rhetoric about being serious about no transiton planning.

Remember we have something of a deadline looming at the end of next month.

So before we are even out of this crisis, the government have lost interest. Today's press conference was an eye opener - Van Tam openly said that the time taken to get test results was too long and wasn't good enough yet and meant track and trace wasnt still operational despite it being such a crucial factor in being able to go into the next phase as planned on 1st June.

Another deadline we won't make - the Manchester Nightgale still has patients and the local authorities in the NW are going mental. So the government is playing more silly buggers over blame and villianising the evil workshy teachers. Noting the government guidance for teachers on how to teacher children at home says fuck all and the guidance on reopening schools makes a Theresa May dog ate my homework style document look positively well thought out, in terms of practicality. (Not even going to touch on the question of whether its safe - the whether its workable one is more important).

I guess that means things are getting back to normal at least.

A recession looms, but workers rights are now fair game and fully in the government cross hairs - as we see from a lack of PPE for the 'heroes' and the attacks on the teachers. As well as the carers who were sold down river. That'll be the ununionised carers...

Taking back control.

That's interesting and not a little alarming, MShip. My impression is that there's a lot of geopolitical jostling going on as the US has retreated from leadership, and covid-19 has exacerbated it.

DGRossetti · 20/05/2020 17:08

One question with the "tracking"...how close do you have to be to trigger it?

You need to walk before you can run.

First question should be "is this a crock of shit ?" before you worry about finer details.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 20/05/2020 17:17

Now we were definitely told that the questions from the public would be chosen by an independent panel and the ministers would not have advance sight of them. This is clearly not the case. The answers are carefully prepared in civilservicespeak.

pussycatinboots · 20/05/2020 17:22

DGR our phones are v v old and don't "do" apps, so I guess we're going to die anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️

I believe you are correct, 'tis indeed a crock of 💩

LouiseCollins28 · 20/05/2020 17:31

PMK, thanks Red

Interesting line from Robert Peston on “return to school” and zero reported cases in London.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 20/05/2020 17:44

I thought the London rate was interesting so had a quick look. It appears it's for one day, and there was a problem with the system on Saturday which probably feeds into it which means it probably is a false 0. Comes at the same time as a few care homes have reported fresh outbreaks. Not sure if the 0 figure includes those from outside NHS labs with the ongoing issues of only notifying patients either.

ListeningQuietly · 20/05/2020 17:58

TBH I'd be a nightmare for track and trace as I've met hundreds of people since Lockdown started
except I have an accurate diary of who and when
and I've been assiduous about hand washing, staying thumping distance apart and staying healthy
so far so good .....

I do not trust an APP,
I do not trust a Serco contractor,
I would trust a local health authority staffer .....

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 20/05/2020 18:07

Today's Meridian News Headline:

Rubber boat full of migrants rescued in Channel by Nigel Farage.

Mockers
What was he doing at the coast ? He lives in Downe ....

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 20/05/2020 18:13

Despite previous warnings from Kent Plod, he was out with a film crew to prove the French Coastguards were escorting the boats into UK waters.

But before he got the chance, he had to escort one into Dover.

ListeningQuietly · 20/05/2020 18:57

Oh he is an arse.
I hope that history judges him appropriately for what he has done to this country.

DGRossetti · 20/05/2020 18:59

Lockdown scrabble anyone ?

Westministenders: Reployed back to No Deal Planning
ListeningQuietly · 20/05/2020 19:05

COVID = 13 in scrabble though ...... no way to make 19 on my board

Not generally a fan of the beeb, but educational this. Especially for those (like me) who conflate the number of tests with the number of people being tested.

RedToothBrush · 20/05/2020 19:13

Which party has the most MPs over 65?

Clue: it's not the blue corner.

OP posts:
AuldAlliance · 20/05/2020 19:22

I can't get 19 by adding 6, 7 and 5, whether it's on a scrabble board or a poster...does that mean I'd fail a US citizenship test? (Not that I'm planning any such thing.)

pussycatinboots · 20/05/2020 19:24

It would be quite refreshing for the MPs to lead by example and therefore all return to the commons before all the kids go back to school confident in the knowledge that another MP won't lick them, I suppose Hmm

pussycatinboots · 20/05/2020 19:26

isn't it number of letters
barack 6 letters, hussein 7, obama 5

and CV is covid 19
?

prettybird · 20/05/2020 19:32

MPs are apparently going to have to queue to vote in the lobbies, 2m apart, in order then "vote" at a computer terminal as the tellers themselves won't be there Hmm

My MP's (Stewart McDonald) opinion is that it is going to reduce scrutiny from the present hybrid system, not increase it Angry. Especially as so many of the Conservative MPs are "new" and very compliant - unlike some of the old school MPs who were prepared to stand up for what they believed was right (like Grieve and Ken Clarke) Sad

JeSuisPoulet · 20/05/2020 19:52

Making it optional to attend Commons would solve a few problems via Darwinism, Mogg et al would have to show true spirit for starters Smile

Interesting about the hacking. America said they were being hacked last week IIRC, funny Bozo never mentioned it...guess it wouldn't make his "Britain Is Best At" list.

prettybird · 20/05/2020 19:57

From what my MP has been saying, it's not going to be optional. As of 2 June, they're back to having to be physically present in the HoC and the current hybrid system will be ceased Sad

That was voted through this afternoon. The odious and smug Rhys Mogg got his way via the compliant new intake of Conservative MPs. SadAngry

pussycatinboots · 20/05/2020 20:01

prettybird very sorry, that would include mine the little shit. Angry

ListeningQuietly · 20/05/2020 20:28

Electronic voting I utterly support.
Virtual meetings are going really really well at other levels of Government
increasing accountability, encouraging engagement etc etc , its JUST FAB
but as had been now proved, and much to my professional surprise
remote meetings / voting make people pay MORE attention, not LESS

mrslaughan · 20/05/2020 20:35

We're appalled MPs are being forced back.

DH plan is for all the opposition MPs to sit and cough all the way through the first sitting.... we don't think Smaug has had it yet do we? Also Gove was negative wasn't he?

Jason118 · 20/05/2020 21:00

Well, it's an opportunity to be heroes.
