Westministenders: Reployed back to No Deal Planning

Now Covid-19 is over (yeah I know right) lots of civil servants who were switched from brexit no deal planning to covid-19 planning have been switched back to their original remit.

For some reason this doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

We've also seen yet another doubling down on the EU not being flexible and how they need to make a deal. And lots of rhetoric about being serious about no transiton planning.

Remember we have something of a deadline looming at the end of next month.

So before we are even out of this crisis, the government have lost interest. Today's press conference was an eye opener - Van Tam openly said that the time taken to get test results was too long and wasn't good enough yet and meant track and trace wasnt still operational despite it being such a crucial factor in being able to go into the next phase as planned on 1st June.

Another deadline we won't make - the Manchester Nightgale still has patients and the local authorities in the NW are going mental. So the government is playing more silly buggers over blame and villianising the evil workshy teachers. Noting the government guidance for teachers on how to teacher children at home says fuck all and the guidance on reopening schools makes a Theresa May dog ate my homework style document look positively well thought out, in terms of practicality. (Not even going to touch on the question of whether its safe - the whether its workable one is more important).

I guess that means things are getting back to normal at least.

A recession looms, but workers rights are now fair game and fully in the government cross hairs - as we see from a lack of PPE for the 'heroes' and the attacks on the teachers. As well as the carers who were sold down river. That'll be the ununionised carers...

Taking back control.

I spent the first decade of my life in Germany.

I saw more penises then than in the two decades since.

Years ago we stayed with my German friend and her new husband. I came out of the bathroom in the middle of the night to find him waiting his turn on the landing in the tiniest briefs I have ever seen. However, I got the impression the fact he was wearing pants at all was a courtesy to us during our stay.

BigChocFrenzy · 22/05/2020 22:45

"nearly 15,000 COVID-19 patients"

I hope for much smaller trials before doctors start trialling bleach

BestIsWest · 22/05/2020 22:49

I’m sure I read that Cummings story at least a week ago. Am I having deja vu?

HateIsNotGood · 22/05/2020 23:07

My first thoughts re Brexit in a CV19 World were that the transition period should be extended.

My view on that has altered somewhat now and looking at how things are going maybe it's best the UK cuts the EU cord and just gets on with the Exiting.

Pleased to see most here are still alive and well,

Best Wishes

DGR I'm pleased, for entirely selfish reasons. But presumably he isn't giving up his German citizenship? That would be daft ...

HateIs - can you explain why you've come round to that view? I'm intrigued.

JeSuisPoulet · 22/05/2020 23:20

Only just caught up, sorry for x-posting about Cummings!

V. interested to hear about dysgraphia too as this sounds very familiar and dd's reading has always been good which never quite gelled with what I had grown up understanding of dyslexia. Although to be honest it was only just becoming recognised while I was at school. Thanks for the info and links to everyone who posted.

Off to catch up with Gogglebox now Smile.

SwedishEdith · 23/05/2020 00:26

I’m sure I read that Cummings story at least a week ago. Am I having deja vu?

He was reported as seen in Durham weeks ago. It seemed to go cold then but looks like a coordinated Mirror and Guardian story (good) followed it up. Thank god for the neighbour - maybe the Cummings family ain't that well-liked? Confused

Sostenueto · 23/05/2020 00:35

Well if Cummings doesn't resign half the country will voluntarily come out of lockdown especially as he travelled with suspected symptoms. And then there will be a real mess both for the country and this Pixy Government. Scottish party have called for his resignation but Boris cannot manage without him. As if we ain't got enough to worry about without all this Cummings and goins!😄

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 23/05/2020 00:36

Where do I apply for Indefinite Leave to Bugger Off, I'd be happy to be where Henning is from.

BigChocFrenzy · 23/05/2020 00:57

Some big Tory donors are going on strike until BJ delivers the promised peerages.

I wonder if he'll keep more of his promises to them than to the rest of the country ?

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 23/05/2020 01:31

You do? Grin

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 23/05/2020 01:36

Give me my Smarties!

Or else!

Aren't they supposed to be grown-ups?

BigChocFrenzy · 23/05/2020 01:38

"Aren't they supposed to be grown-ups?"

There is little evidence for that hypothesis

“If Covid-19 fails to sink them, a messy Brexit could.”

https://theloadstar.com/if-covid-19-fails-to-sink-uk-firms-a-messy-brexit-could-finish-the-job/

UK companies, already hit hard by the impacts of Covid-19, could face closure without further clarity on Brexit.

Global trade finance expert Dr Kerstin Braun, president of Stenn Group, yesterday warned that the UK’s fast-shrinking economy had already hurt firms, and Brexit could do further damage.

“A hard exit following on the heels of the Covid-19 crisis, with potential tariff increases and paperwork confusion, could prove to be a perfect storm for UK firms.

BigChocFrenzy · 23/05/2020 01:47

"The Bank of England has forecast that the UK’s economy will shrink 14% this year.
(By way of contrast, the German economy is expected to contract 6.6%, according to the Institute for Economic Research, while the French government predicts its economy will decline 8%.)"

We also have the issue of why the UK economy is predicted to do so much worse than others

The government (lack of) strategy may end up with the UK having both the highest deaths in Europe and being among the worst hit economies

They seem to have achieved an economy vs lives balance that looks equally bad for both

pussycatinboots · 23/05/2020 07:47

BCF 14% sounds optimistic tbh. We were waiting for the next recession anyway, but add that to Brexit and a totally incompetent hand selected by DomCum Prime Minister and Government then ice the cake with Covid...
It's not looking good😟

TheABC · 23/05/2020 07:52

Remember: this what people voted for.
Less than 6 months ago.

DM gunning for Boris.

I don’t think he has properly recovered and was unlikely to do so in the timescale he’s had. The question is whether he will recover in the next couple of months.

The "We Support Boris" Facebook group.

Or is it when you look closely Hmm

DGRossetti · 23/05/2020 08:41

Will this story go away with big hitters like JHB on the case ?

Westministenders: Reployed back to No Deal Planning
TatianaBis · 23/05/2020 08:44

JHB big hitter

But I hope the story runs and runs... until he resigns.

Mistigri · 23/05/2020 08:50

Piers is on the case too. Can't abide him personally, but he is like a dog with a bone.

pointythings · 23/05/2020 08:56

I disagree with Piers Morgan about almost everything, including the touchy matter of whether the sun is actually hot, but right now he's doing good work.

HesterThrale · 23/05/2020 08:57

I wonder when Johnson knew what Cummings did? Probably a while ago.

Then either he thought it was acceptable, which is worrying. Or, he thought it wasn’t, in which case either he hoped it’d never come out, or that if it did, they’d be able to brazen it out.

All very dishonourable.

At a time when our leaders should be setting an example, they think the rules aren’t for them. Don’t forget that Cabinet Minster, Jenrick, driving to Shropshire.

Update this morning, it seems someone is trying to us the 'legitimate excuse' justification. (via Laura K who is has just shed a load of credibility with this gem by swallowing it without questions)

Dominic Cummings and his wife were 'too ill to look after their child' so his sister offered to look after them. (original story was his parents). That's after it was pointed out that if you have covid-19 would you really want your parents to look after your child, especially following your Uncle's death a couple of days earlier?

So despite being too ill to look after his child, Dominic drove 250 miles to Dunham. Incredible hulk Dom.

With the full knowledge of number 10.

But the police did have a chat with Cummings over the incident.

This story stinks of shit.

Either you are too ill to look after your child and your sister comes to collect child, or you are a lying bullshitter who can drive 250miles.

Which do you think it is?
