We are witnessing a demonstration in Government crisis management.

For the past week journalists have asked the same questions and politicians have said they've already done it / are doing it in the near future. But as time wears on, the inability to produce the answers or demonstrate results is proving illusive.

This will have consequences.

It is a demonstration in how planning has proved to be lacking in certain areas.

With Brexit in mind, the lack of vision, coordination with business and wider capability and capacity this does not bode well.

Can’t believe that the government is patting itself on the back for having removed the 15% cap on testing health care workers. It should be being excoriated for the fact that the cap was ever there at all! 😡🤬😡

A friend of mine has been contacted to sew scrubs for the NHS on a voluntary basis (semi-professional seamstress, usually does wedding dresses, show costumes and the like - she'll have to resist the temptation to add sequins and frills!)

Politicians talk and others do the work! None of our politicians have any expertise in anything. Except being politicians. That has been shown to be worthless.

Seems the UK governments template for daily briefings was taken from Camberwick Green. Today, apparently, it's Liz Truss. Windy Miller is having problems on a still day, and Mr. Honeyman needs more hand sanitiser.

Just caught up - dog has eaten the end of my laptop charger so I am PMK really before the battery dies!

Also was going to say this incompetence (which has meant our govt not just ignoring but GOING AGAINST the very basic principles of Public Health, remember) does not bode well for the Brexit plans .

I also wanted to say about the older population, who not so long ago were all over social media defying anyone to stop them going out etc. Now I feel they are put out that not only is everyone having to stay in, but they are doing it willingly and they are meant to be grateful! I think if we have a situ where they decide they go out and "risk it" they should be legally made to carry a DNR card. Why should our NHS have to risk their own lives as well as those of others due to selfish ignorance? I've always thought that vaccination shouldn't be left to personal choice though, as I firmly believe these days that not enough people have the ability to fully understand the risk. As we've mentioned in Brexit threads, empathy in UK is at an all time low.

Obvs when I say risk, I don't just mean personal risk.

Every morning I attend an online meeting about how things are going in my Trust. PPE hyas been a theme every single day since these meetings started. Staff still cannot get what they need, and we are nowhere near peak in terms of numbers of patients. I'm working my arse off trying to make sure people get deployed in the right places, but what's the point if we can't equip them properly?

My FB and Linkedin feeds are full of people 3d printing face mask frames but I cannot see that the NHS will be allowed to use them.
Is there a list of which designs have been authorised or is it a trust by trust basis ?

Surely it made some sort of sense, early on, to test people who displayed symptoms as a priority rather than asymptomatic health care workers? Now there are more tests, more health workers can be tested. Seems sensible enough to me.

What does need to be decided, I think is that once tests are plentiful, what proportion of health care workers need to be tested, how often?

Just to comment on the end of the last thread, didn’t read the whole think but I’ve been watching the various US briefings each PM and evening. Having done that, I think Gov. Cuomo is an excellent communicator and that I have to add that Mike Pence as VP seems to easily out perform his boss by that measure too. There are things I don’t like about Pence (and some I do) but as a communicator I genuinely think he’s doing a good job, and a better one than the President.

The whole debate about testing is a perfect example of allowing the Government to drive the narrative to obscure failings. Gladhanded by an incompetent and complicit media. (I see Peston was torn a new one recently ...)

Here we (nearly) all are arguing over testing/not testing, which swerves the question about what action should be taken once a test has been carried out. Because that is about as clear as mud right now.

But many of those healthcare workers have been stuck at home, potentially for no good reason, for lack of tests. They need to find out which ones can work ASAP. They also need PPE to keep them safe, obviously
