Westminstenders: A test of logistic planning

We are witnessing a demonstration in Government crisis management.

For the past week journalists have asked the same questions and politicians have said they've already done it / are doing it in the near future. But as time wears on, the inability to produce the answers or demonstrate results is proving illusive.

This will have consequences.

It is a demonstration in how planning has proved to be lacking in certain areas.

With Brexit in mind, the lack of vision, coordination with business and wider capability and capacity this does not bode well.

Lockdown will not be ending soon.

I'll watch - she's the head of state

With the power to huff and puff and ... oh, that's it.

Tell you what, I'll watch next doors cat instead. After all, the legal powers both subjects have are identical ... (rhymes with "call" ...)

In the meantime, I see Girly Swot Steph McGovern is host on todays HIGNY, and I see The Mash Report is back "at 10pm" as if that's a distinction for BBC3.

Living near the QE hospital these past 18 years, we grew used to hearing Chinooks coming into the helipads. At one point it was in sync with the news from Iraq or Afghanistan.

Nowdays (thankfully) it's just the air ambulance.

I honestly don't know about assistance with the Palestinian community outside Israel, eg West Bank or Gaza.
I doubt any help to neighbouring countries one of their first actions was to close all borders, including flights from China.
Easy to do in Israel and it definitely gave them a head start.

Israel has a big problem with the ultra-orthodox who don't watch TV and aren't online. You tell them and they say it won't get to them because they're protected by God. They are large families who live in close proximity and they will not keep off the streets.

Thanks LQ and DGR.

Rumours of peak on Easter Sunday, April 12th. Sad.

Mockers
Not just in Israel.
The President of Tanzania is saying that as the virus is Satanic it will not enter a church so churches are fine.
In the UK big evangelical churches are still meeting, as are some Gudawaras and Mosques
in the US the megachurches are still packing them in ....
but their god will save them all apparently

Not sure what was meant to protect the attendees of Cheltenham festival who are starting to admit having it ....

LQ - "the attendees of Cheltenham festival who are starting to admit having it". Where did you hear that? (Hardly surprising ...)

I'm waiting to hear about the virus clusters in liverpool/Cheshire after the insane decision to allow the atletico Madrid match to go ahead....
2,000 fans from spains worst hit area...
(Bangs head on desk...)
Cheltenham was always going to be a virus hot bed. Staggering that went ahead too.

Gah. I was daft enough to click on a CV thread (in Active - you have been warned!). It started off well, but C&P came in quickly and was joined by some pals, so I came running back here. Will I never learn?!

LQ . Just wow.

"Sue Smith, the senior racecourse medical officer at Cheltenham, said on Thursday that “it’s simply not possible to know how and where someone who has tested positive for Covid-19 has contracted it”"

Yes; and you can't prove they DIDN'T catch it at Cheltenham either! Muppet.

Trump stopping export of N95 masks to Canada. In a nod to a contemporaneous thread on MN, I would imagine the Canadian Health Authorities had such a contingency planned for.

It does not do to leave a dragon out of your plans when you live next door to one ..

I'm dreading this weekend tbh
Weather has been forecast as good
Which probably means similar behaviour to mother's day weekend...huge 3 generational family groups going for walks, extended family get togethers, children's parties...this is if local behaviour here is anything to go by...

Queenie will speak to her people at some point. It's in the can.

Has anyone had their letter from BJ yet? Will we get it before the toilet roll runs out?

Not "dreading" but I guess there will be many people unable to resist the siren call of the sun ...

Meanwhile, here's another pithy note that should be written into the "When this is over" book of reckoning.

Not a squeak from anyone. Fuck knows where DWs vulnerable person letter is. Or indeed anything. That was a waste of 5 minutes registering, wasn't it. At least I'm here for now.

Tomorrow will be fun ... of to Sainsburys. Wonder if it will be as quiet as last time. ...

Re company reserves.
When return rates are 0.1% on a good savings account and the interest is taxed
and interest on borrowing is tax deductible
and business credit is easy to get
and shareholders demand higher dividends if there are significant profits
is it any wonder that most businesses are cash poor

add in nearly four years of Brexit uncertainty causing repeated rounds of wasted spending

I am waiting to see what will be done about offshore as that is the easiest tap for all governments .....
