Westminstenders: The Mask is Slipping

This week has seen the department of the Chancellor who launched a 50p piece, the serious contemplation of a tin pot bridge, the rebirth of eugenics as a subject for cabinet, the announcement of the end of the BBC as we know it, the cabinet chanting after the PM in a way Orwell would be proud of, suppression of a report into trade deals which dares to mention the effect of distance and geography, worrying signs of an ever growing rift with Europe over negotiations for a deal, an appointment which starts to make our membership of the ECHR look very dodgy and there have been rather a lot of floods which so far seemed to have escaped the attention of those in London busy in their own swamp.

It's becoming apparent very quickly just how Trump like our new government are and how they want the UK to emulate the very worst aspects of America.

We are falling fast and its not looking like it will be pretty.

All we need is a major global issue to test our national resilience and the incompetence will truly be laid bare for us all to see... But not necessarily speak of. Such us the way it works.

Brexit Britain is not a nice looking prospect.

Immigration will fall whatever the government does, though probably not to tens of thousands. Not that they can count it anyway.

Mildly amusing political story for those who have a passing interest in French politics - and who could NOT have at least a passing interest in the woes of former LREM Paris mayoral candidate Benjamin Griveau? The man who appears to have been the victim of a sting organised by an ex partner in cahoots with a Russian performance artist who once nailed his scrotum to Red Square.

Anyway. So on Friday evening DD goes shopping in an Asian supermarket near her girlfriend's flat. Lots of police and cameras outside, she stops and asks a journalist what's going on. Turns out the building next door is the LREM headquarters and Griveau is inside at a meeting. Journalist, obviously short of something to broadcast, interviews my DD on camera about her opinions on the Griveau affair! She's an 18 year old student, she says he was just desperate for something to film ...

"a Russian performance artist who once nailed his scrotum to Red Square."

Was he a Brexiter ?

BigChocFrenzy · 17/02/2020 20:12

Your DD sounds very sensible and may have nailed it.
(not the scrotum)

Short and (not so) sweet

Andrew Sabisky: No 10 adviser resigns over alleged race comments www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-51538493

ListeningQuietly · 17/02/2020 20:57

Good riddance

HesterThrale · 17/02/2020 21:00

This interview was telling.

#KayBurley - Are you comfortable with Andrew Sabisky, who openly believes in eugenics, working in Downing Street?
George Eustice(Environment Sec) - I'm not going to get drawn on that... that's a matter for Dominic Cummings.

Dominic Cummings?! Is he in charge then? Or was that Eustice's way of having dig?

twitter.com/Haggis_UK/status/1229347591017713666

Mockersisrightasusual · 17/02/2020 21:04

Sabisky blames character assassination and 'media hysteria over my old stuff.'

I expect Eichmann said something similar to the mossad.

RedToothBrush · 17/02/2020 21:40

Sabisky wasn't sacked by Cummings or Johnson. He quit.

Now we will have lots of comments about a lack of free speech rather than the correct conversation of why the fuck did they employ such a complete and utter fuckwit with a poor grasp of science, rich white male supremist leanings and completely lazy arsed?

The answer is because they have similar views and a similar attitude problem and they recruited in their own image.

And this is the concern. Not whether Sabisky should have been hired.

yolofish · 17/02/2020 21:40

I think I might just go back to sticking my head in the sand, worrying about coronavirus and the Sussexes... it might be less painful.

KenDodd · 17/02/2020 21:48

Sabisky wasn't sacked by Cummings or Johnson. He quit
Well I wonder if he's gone at all, he could now be working for them as a freelance consultant. I don't see Cummings giving up on 'weirdos' so easily.

BigChocFrenzy · 17/02/2020 21:58

Sabisky was just stupid enough to state beliefs in public that many on the hard right share

Caught out by the fact that whatever you post on Tinternet in your younger days never goes away

I suspect he'll disappear into a thinktank which will be feeding No 10 by an indirect route

Unescorted · 17/02/2020 22:02

Can I thank you for documenting that not all people were part of the current thinking being espoused by some sections of the population. When history looks back you will be the bright beacon.

Italian man, 95, resident in UK for 68 years, told to prove it

And another one .... 🤦🏻‍♀️

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/feb/17/italian-man-95-resident-in-uk-for-68-years-told-to-prove-it

A 95-year-old Italian man who has been in the UK for 68 years has been asked to prove he is resident in the country by the Home Office in order to remain after Brexit,
despite receiving the state pension for the past 32 years.

Antonio Finelli came to the country in 1952 when he answered an appeal for immigrant labour as part of the reconstruction effort after the second world war ended.

He was welcomed with one week’s advance wages and a sandwich when he arrived at Folkestone harbour,
but almost 70 years later says he has been forced to supply 80 pages of bank statements to prove his right to stay in the UK.

KenDodd · 17/02/2020 22:25

Sabisky was just stupid enough to state beliefs in public that many on the hard right share

I agree. It would be really interesting to see what percentage of the public agree with eg compulsory birth control to reduce the 'underclass' or white people being naturally of superior intellect than black people?

Andrew Sabisky made vile claims about women and sex on Reddit

THE Prime Minister’s newest adviser, who quit amid controversy tonight, once claimed it was a woman’s Christian “duty” to have sex with her husband, The National can reveal.

Andrew Sabisky, 27, made the comments on Reddit, where he seemingly acted as an agony uncle to posters on the site’s popular sex forum, doling out advice on rape fantasies, incest, Christianity, and other subjects.

In one post, from seven years ago, a man explains that his Mormon wife is reluctant to have sex with him and asks for advice.

Under the username thedovelamenting, Sabisky responds by urging him to try to “rewire” her brain “to the point where she no longer, consciously or subconsciously sees a conflict between a good Christian woman and serving you up 39 flavours of slut on command”.

As for the threat title OP, I don't think the mask is slipping, I think it's slowly being removed, careful to inch the followers along.

KenDodd · 17/02/2020 22:44

I'm guessing number 10 would have done extensive background and security checks on Andrew Sabisky so would have known about his views and posting history. Knowing all this it was deemed he would be an asset to be recruited.

yolofish · 17/02/2020 23:14

yes KenDodd no one gets recruited more or less anywhere without due diligence being done. Which is frightening enough in itself.

So Sabisky is the squirrel today - what are we missing?

BigChocFrenzy · 17/02/2020 23:36

So apparently - despite participating in that embarassing cheerleading session - it was Cabinet ministers & their advisers who forced his sacking

e.g. from yesterday:

Alex Wickhamm@alexwickham*

Have spoken to multiple special advisers who say they and their cabinet ministers will refuse to work with Andrew Sabisky

---- - they won’t attend meetings where he is present or respond to his emails

  • they will tell Boris Johnson to overrule Dominic Cummings and sack Sabisky

Cabinet now in open revolt against No10 over Sabisky appointment

  • one source: “Did nobody consider google? Jesus fucking Christ”
  • another: “How fucking dumb is this ‘superforecaster’”
  • another: “Interesting take on the people’s government”

Former government special adviser:
“Hiring this imbecile is an insult to those who came before, which is a minor point I know, but jesus wept it makes me ashamed.”

< Very interesting if true - if they consider it important enough, then they could overrule BJ on other matters in future too, e.g. over the Brexit deal >

RedToothBrush · 17/02/2020 23:37

I'm guessing number 10 would have done extensive background and security checks on Andrew Sabisky so would have known about his views and posting history. Knowing all this it was deemed he would be an asset to be recruited

Sabisky posted some of his views directly onto Cummings blog. He shares similar views with Cummings.

Cummings definitely knew.

He employed him.

OP posts:
BigChocFrenzy · 18/02/2020 00:14

Cummings thought he could get away with it
He thinks he is untouchable
and the puppetmaster pulling BJ's strings - but a string snapped and hit him in the arse

BigChocFrenzy · 18/02/2020 00:22

If you advertise for "weirdos" you'll inevitably get a lot of applications from white supremacists, incels and conspiracy theorists

Was that the purpose ?

frumpety · 18/02/2020 06:49

Just had a very quick google about super forecasting, seems like anyone can have a go at it if they follow the script. I am getting a definite 'there's nothing wrong with being wrong as long as you dissect why you were wrong' vibe about it, which suits me because I am wrong a lot Wink

  • another: “How fucking dumb is this ‘superforecaster’”

I fear he may not be dumb at all. It might be us who are dumb for not seeing what's coming and just how much support his 'forecasts' have.
