Westministenders: No Australia Don't Have A Deal

RedToothBrush · 04/02/2020 16:47

Since Friday, far from letting things calm down, Johnson has doubled down stating that if we can't have a Canada Deal (which the EU says wouldn't be equal because we are much closer than Canada geographically) we will go for an Australia Deal.

This is the latest rehash of a managed no deal package up as something else which the EU have already repeatedly said no to.

So we are on track for no deal.

At the same time Johnson has got very excited about American food and how its great. Almost as if he wants no deal wit the EU to force a shitty bad deal with the us through.

Johnson and his chronies have also been trying to undermine journalistic transparency by blocking access to the lobby to some media outlets in a move that makes us look like a tinpot dictatorship. Fortunately there was a mass walk out of journalists but it remains to be seen how long that can be maintained.

Far from being a clean slate to move forward from its already proving that nothing has changed and old divisions are as deep as ever, if not worse...

Did anyone catch the pledge to Uganda ?

I do mind that she said his going was a surprise - it shouldn't have been to anyone paying attention

I don't think it was a surprise in that plenty of people obviously thought it was possible, but it was a surprise in that it clearly wasn't intended to happen. And I don't think anyone predicted the manner of his going - because no one would have bet on him developing a spine Wink

This is a relief: Harry Miller won his case against Humberside TRA / police
Judge decided that it is unlawful for police to try to imtimidate lawful tweeting.

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2020/feb/14/transgender-tweet-police-acted-unlawfully

In a ruling on Friday, the high court in London found the actions of Humberside police were a “disproportionate interference” with Miller’s right to freedom of expression.

The judge said:
“The claimants’ tweets were lawful and there was not the slightest risk that he would commit a criminal offence by continuing to tweet.

“I find the combination of the police visiting the claimant’s place of work,
and their subsequent statements in relation to the possibility of prosecution,
were a disproportionate interference with the claimant’s right to freedom of expression

because of their potential chilling effect.”

In his judgment, Knowles stated:
“I conclude that the police left the claimant with the clear belief that he was being warned by them to desist from posting further tweets on transgender matters even if they did not directly warn him in terms.

“In other words, I conclude that the police’s actions led him, reasonably, to believe that he was being warned not to exercise his right to freedom of expression about transgender issues on pain of potential criminal prosecution.”

His lawyers may still appeal to prevent the police recording such non-crimes as official hate incidents
Odd that the police are effectively using their own law, not the law of the land, in doing this

That's something that must be stopped, as it has far wider implications than just the batshit TRA agenda

HenHarrier · 14/02/2020 14:03

I did wonder why #oh Colin was trending on Twitter.

"Japanese legal giant confirms it shunned London over Brexit"

Oops, Jason we may now get several copy & paste posts telling us why this Japanese firm aren't giving the real (Non-Brexit) reason

malylis · 14/02/2020 14:22

Or why they have given a non brexit reason in their latest press release after executives said the opposite.

Reems of copy and paste coming!

ListeningQuietly · 14/02/2020 14:23

I do honestly think that companies moving out of the UK will not cite Brexit as a reason

but its also interesting Sajid's resignation comments that basically define the new Chancellor as a Cummings puppet

the budget on 11th March will be interesting
a whole forest of magic money trees I suspect

ListeningQuietly · 14/02/2020 14:27

Bigchoc am VERY pleased about Harry's case, sad about Kate's but not surprised.
This story is interesting

If trans athletes think that pre surgery men running in women's events will help their case at the Olympics in Japan, they are in for rather a shock I think.

SpindleBerry · 14/02/2020 14:54

Very buoyed to hear the ruling in Harry Miller case but this is so obviously designed to silence opposition -
The College of Policing’s guidance defines a transgender hate incident as “any non-crime incident which is perceived, by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by a hostility or prejudice against a person who is transgender or perceived to be transgender”.

that I'm very disappointed in the Judge's ruling -
Mr Justice Julian Knowles rejected a wider challenge to the lawfulness of the College of Police guidance, ruling that it “serves legitimate purposes and is not disproportionate”

It is being used for illegitimate purposes and is wildly disproportionate.

Mr Miller has appealed against the ruling about the College of Policing guidance and permission has been granted for the case to go straight to the Supreme Court.

Its one of the small glimmers of hope in a solid Tory government - womens' rights might be respected a bit more solidly

Peregrina · 14/02/2020 15:00

Clav is busy on another thread, saying that it doesn't matter about a legal giant not investing here because a Telecoms giant from Japan is basing something newly launched here. The cut and paste is rather spoilt when the PM Theresa May is quoted.

That "new" hospital in Liverpool was on the tv programme Hospital. Not only is all the then high tech equipment in mothballs but someone in maintenance has to go around turning all the taps on and run the water every day to keep up safety standards until it (hopefully, sometime) finally opens.

Anyone with half a brain cell in Team Boris would have massaged that into a press release about taking action to quarantine virus patients.

It's depressing when the government of the day can't even be predictably crap.

Will Johnson pull the budget on 11th March ?

If he breaches manifesto promises (the Javid spending rules) the Lords will be within their rights to vote the budget down

cue some rather exciting politics again Grin

tobee · 14/02/2020 18:16

Yeah the budget can fuck off on March 11th. It's my birthday not that I'm self involved at all!
