Westministenders: No Australia Don't Have A Deal

Since Friday, far from letting things calm down, Johnson has doubled down stating that if we can't have a Canada Deal (which the EU says wouldn't be equal because we are much closer than Canada geographically) we will go for an Australia Deal.

This is the latest rehash of a managed no deal package up as something else which the EU have already repeatedly said no to.

So we are on track for no deal.

At the same time Johnson has got very excited about American food and how its great. Almost as if he wants no deal wit the EU to force a shitty bad deal with the us through.

Johnson and his chronies have also been trying to undermine journalistic transparency by blocking access to the lobby to some media outlets in a move that makes us look like a tinpot dictatorship. Fortunately there was a mass walk out of journalists but it remains to be seen how long that can be maintained.

Far from being a clean slate to move forward from its already proving that nothing has changed and old divisions are as deep as ever, if not worse...

It's been criticised by the right as well as the left.

Exactly. The BBC isn't left wing or right wing. It represents Establishment positions. That's its bias. Which means tending to the centre or right on economics and to the liberal left on social issues. So social conservatives don't like what they see as "Woke" hectoring spoiling favourite drama series like Doctor Who, left wingers don't like the hostility to socialism in the news output, etc etc.

But everybody forgets the vast range of high quality programming for people of almost every interest across the TV and radio schedules.

Yes, Question Time has become a ludicrous tabloid affair. But there's still Book at Bedtime, Jim Al-Khalili illuminating physics, nature programming beyond compare, quality drama for children and everything else you can think of. And Mornington Crescent, for heavens sakes!

I see we have a new thread, but rather than clutter than up with a debate about the BBC - I think BigChoc is wrong on this one. The real disgrace is that in a still wealthy country, people can't find £3.00 a week spare. What else can be bought for £3.00? Consider the amount that the Bullingdon boys could waste in an evening, by e.g. trashing College rooms, for which Daddy obligingly wrote a cheque out for. That is where our ire should go.

As for HS2 - well, surprise, surprise, it won't be High Speed when the legs beyond Crewe get built. Who would have thought that the line was really being built to get wealthy business men to London quicker?

Completely agree, Whatkaty and Peregrina.
The BBC may have faults but I believe has been long revered and respected in many other nations, as being better than what their country offers them. That says something. And acts as a warning to us, surely.

I just seen that the UK expect the trade deal/negotiations to be on the basis of 'sovereign equals'. Which is and always has been the crux of the issue as far as I can see. Britain didn't like being 1 of 28. It thinks it's superior. 1 UK is equal to 27 other countries together. We're fucked.

So ? Call it what you want if it makes you feel better. It won't change the dynamics of 350 million people versus 65 million people.

Muhammed Ali and Barry McGuigan would have been sovereign equals too.

In the USA most services are fully devolved
rich towns get good schools
rich towns get good fire and police services
rich people get good healthcare
rich people get access to healthy food
I'd rather not go down that path thankyou.

A huge proportion of my taxes go on care for the elderly
I'm not old
why should I pay that ?

The BBC provides services to all for a fraction of the cost of a Sky package
once lost it will never come back
therefore it should be defended VIGOROUSLY
