I'm not making a song and dance about it. I'm not falling out with anyone over it. I dont want to debate it. I'm just sad about it.

And that's ok.

Anyone else with me?

Shockers your DPs sound lovely, we are old here DH and me, and we are Remainers through and through.

Roussette · 01/02/2020 20:31

I will make a good attempt on the surface at forgiving those that voted for this... I'm just going to think it was ignorance and lies fed to them. But deep down, I won't forget.

Embembooshkin · 01/02/2020 20:33

All those remainer fireworks going off. At least they won't be able to afford fireworks in November when they are slapped in the face with having to pay more British pounds for their 2 weeks in Benidorm.

Shockers · 01/02/2020 20:37

Did you mean leaver, @Embembooshkin?

Embembooshkin · 01/02/2020 20:44

Yes sorry, I'm pissed.

BBInSleepsCounting · 01/02/2020 20:53

I am going to get some Hug A Rejoiner t-shirts printed to wear and distribute amongst friends and family.

cologne4711 · 01/02/2020 21:00

Doesn't the WA make an extension illegal now? What's Johnson going to do, overturn that bit, ask for an extension and hope no one notices (genuinely wondering)

Johnson will do whatever he feels is expedient for him. Lets face it, he was happy to prorogue parliament to try to force through a no deal Brexit at the end of October.

I suspect he'd just agree it and sort out the legislation afterwards.

The other option is despite the off the shelf association agreement approach, that for expediency sake on both sides they agree something and then say other aspects will be agreed later.

Anyway we'll see.

That poster is vile, I'm going to learn Italian and Welsh now just to annoy those kinds of people. (Would those kind of people consider Welsh or Scottish Gaelic acceptable? Doubtful.)

Anyway, I'm firmly working class, as are my family, my ex-H and his family. We all voted Remain, none of us are very educated either. My ex-FIL is a baby boomer but spends his free time travelling round Europe for gigs and is very left wing.
Sadly I also know lots of people in my age group (late 20s/early 30s) who voted Leave. I view them with suspicion. They're the ones who like their cheap holidays in Spain, I've never left the UK! And yet I'm more outward looking than they are. I'm just sad about all the lost opportunities that will be the result of this, things like Erasmus are of no use to me, but that doesn't mean I don't want them to continue.
Also, I have an interest in the arts, as do people I know and we know that's going to be affected.

Fuck it, I'll be a Remainer/Rejoiner until I die (hopefully it won't take that long.) I was talking to the nice lad who works in our Superdrug today, he's very sad about it too, but as I said then, the fight isn't over. I wonder if giving 16/17 year olds a vote would have changed it. (Probably.)

Just spent an amazing night with my family. Some of whom are still living in EU countries. It was a joyous celebration (niece's 18th birthday). It was also a little bit sad because our country is no longer in the EU and that has touched us all.

But what I came away with is a compounded belief that we are better together. Laughing, dancing, eating, celebrating together. We will rejoin. Because we know, or will learn (the hard way) that we are better together.

Except for Mysterytrip whose ExW and family decided that they were better off on a different continent from him. And they were right.

Sad too Sad
And sick of the gloating posts from leavers

MysteryTripAgain · 02/02/2020 08:04

We will rejoin

Two assumptions made here;

First - UK will apply

Second - All EU members accept the application

MysteryTripAgain · 02/02/2020 08:07

As per Alondra UK has held the EU back and hence they and France in Particular will never allow the UK into the EU again.

If Spain’s attempt to take Gibraltar is unsuccessful they too may object to a rejoin by the UK?

MysteryTripAgain · 02/02/2020 08:10

Except for Mysterytrip whose ExW and family decided that they were better off on a different continent from him. And they were right

Incorrect statement. ExW are in the UK and I am in the EU.

jasjas1973 · 02/02/2020 08:22

We will rejoin

In a generation perhaps but not anytime soon.

Johnson may well be in power for another 10 years and the tory party, Sun or Express aren't about to become Europhiles, with downsides blamed on the EU and remainers delaying brexit, we had recessions in the 80s and 90s but folk still voted Tory.

Johnson will seek to make the UK and EU rivals, not partners (helps with the blame)

Sad times.

MysteryTripAgain · 02/02/2020 08:36

In a generation perhaps but not anytime soon

Lots of assumptions here:

UK will apply to rejoin.

All EU members will accept UK’s application.

As per Alondra the UK has held the EU back. Hence the EU, and France in particular, will never make the same mistake again by allowing the UK into the EU.

Spain may have an axe to grind if their attempt to regain Gibraltar fails?

jasjas1973 · 02/02/2020 08:49

Mystery

We do not know what will happen over the next 20 to 25 years, which is why i used "Perhaps" Did you miss this word?

imho to rejoin, we'd need the current crop of politicians to be gone, a min 70/30 in favour and a willing EU or whatever it evolves into, none of this is likely in the short to mid term.

MysteryTripAgain · 02/02/2020 09:11

We do not know what will happen over the next 20 to 25 years

Says a “I know better” remain supporter who has continually forecast that Brexit will be a failure?

Says a “I know better” remain supporter who has continually forecast that Brexit will be a failure?

Says a remain supporter who's read the numerous economic forecasts.

Mystery you do amuse me! Grin Are you like this in RL?

ineedaholidaynow · 02/02/2020 09:31

Leavers have said it could take 50 years before we feel any benefits from Brexit. How could anyone vote for that knowing their children/grandchildren lives will be disadvantaged? Yes there could have been issues with staying in the EU, but I just don’t get the knowingly voting for something that is going to negatively impact the economy for so long.

MysteryTripAgain · 02/02/2020 09:51

Says a remain supporter who's read the numerous economic forecasts

Does that include the treasury forecast that between 500,000 and 800,000 jobs so would be lost just by voting to leave? Unemployment has reduced since 2016.

Ken Dodd in another thread acknowledged that the remain figures were guessed as opposed to based in fact.

MysteryTripAgain · 02/02/2020 09:53

Leavers have said it could take 50 years before we feel any benefits from Brexit

Misquoted yet again. JRM said that it may take up to 50 years before the full benefits of Brexit would be felt. He did not say it would be 50 years before there would be any benefits at all.

ineedaholidaynow · 02/02/2020 10:08

Mystery why do you live in the EU if you don’t like the EU?

MysteryTripAgain · 02/02/2020 10:15

Mystery why do you live in the EU if you don’t like the EU?

Never said I don’t like the EU, but UK’s membership is a bad deal for the UK. Being the third largest donor in return for a huge trade deficit does not add up.

Bit like telling the third largest shareholder of a company that their dividends will be less than the smallest shareholder.

jasjas1973 · 02/02/2020 10:51

You re quite a confrontational sort aren't you?

You were talking about about the issues rejoining, hence my "We don't know what will happen over the next 20 - 25 years" i was agreeing with you but even that you twist.

However, as your not interested in any meaningful dialogue and continue with smart arse posts, little point in responding to you in future.
