I'm not making a song and dance about it. I'm not falling out with anyone over it. I dont want to debate it. I'm just sad about it.

And that's ok.

Anyone else with me?

Just seen the Union Flag being taken down outside the european Union building.
Sad.
Had lunch in a Cafe today, and the couple at the next table mentioned Freedom Day. I could have wept- but this is a Remain area and the MP is a leading light in the ERG.
Nothing else to say really- I voted to join the Common Market all those years ago and I voted remain. DC2 did Eurasmus and has friends all over Europe and feels a lesser European now.

SpringFan · 31/01/2020 22:11

Sorry - this is a Leave area - and how!

Roussette · 31/01/2020 22:14

but this is a Remain area and the MP is a leading light in the ERG

Ditto. So much for listening to his constituency...

shortsaint · 31/01/2020 22:15

We are allowed to be sad.

I spoke to an avid Remainer today whose opinions I respect and her thoughts are that we must think positively. Do not resort to intolerance with brexiteers or we have succumbed to their bad habits. Hope that this means that there will be some reform of the EU because it is needed. She also says that apparently the U.K. now has one of the largest proportion of advocates of the EU now (ironically) because it is so loathed in the remaining countries (have you been watching the Ed Balls on Europe programme?)

purplepandas · 31/01/2020 22:16

Can I also please join? It's so bloody sad, stupid and just hideous. I have never felt as disconnected from my country as I do right now. Farage and Johnson do not represent me or my views.

The80sweregreat · 31/01/2020 22:17

It's the gloating I cannot stand.
It's been awful.

The80sweregreat · 31/01/2020 22:19

They just showed David Cameron on the tele. There are no words.
I lay the blame at his door. Totally.

DioneTheDiabolist · 31/01/2020 22:20

Welcome purplepandas. Welcome everyone.WineBrewSad

Quietly leaving a light on

For those of us quietly sad about leaving the EU.
Eyewhisker · 31/01/2020 22:23

Sad here too. And sad that my children’s prosperity is in jeopardy. The shine has gone off the UK since 2016.

A candle is burning in my window for Europe.

Jellykat · 31/01/2020 22:23

Just watching the news, how fucking depressing..
A bunch of white people dancing in the street wrapped in union jacks, looking very like members of the BNP.. oh and Widdecombe and Farage, whoopee fucking doop! I'm so ashamed to be British.

DivisionBelles · 31/01/2020 22:24

Joining in. I can't bring myself to watch the news so am watching The Last Leg instead.

Sossadtoday · 31/01/2020 22:30

I'm.watching The Last Leg too, just about bearable but they have a counter up in the corner 😢

MsTSwift · 31/01/2020 22:37

“Forgive them lord they know not what they do” springs to mind though am not religious. The Brexiters celebrating in the news seem the worst sort of people. It’s like a bad film where the baddies have won. The remainers interviewed seem so pained and thoughtful. We are in a lovely pro remain city and the mood is sombre. We don’t know any leavers

ineedaholidaynow · 31/01/2020 22:42

Watching the Last Leg too

Roussette · 31/01/2020 22:53

I had to switch to the news and it's so bloody depressing. Some woman at a tea dance in Rotherham saying she doesn't care about the young people, she got what she wanted. She's 84

At least the BBC are showing some of the candelit vigils against the leave. makes a change with the beeb

highlandcoo · 31/01/2020 22:53

Just turned off the TV as Nigel Farage and Ann Widdecombe were due to appear and I cannot stand it.

At the old people's club I help at one of the other volunteers turned up with an armful of Union Jacks and a CD of Rule Britannia. Her plan was for the old people to wave flags and sing. I left before that all started.

She was amazed that everyone didn't share her delight that we are about to "put the Great back in Great Britain" Hmm and when I told her how sad I felt and what a mistake I thought we were making she was taken aback.

Very sad day Sad

GoofyIsACow · 31/01/2020 22:54

We have the news on, it’s utterly awful. A lady being interviewed said ‘looking forward to getting us country back’
Anyone any idea where it went?...

My 8 year old is really worried we are moving, i’ve had to reassure him loads. He is a bit of a worrier!

UnrulyPig · 31/01/2020 22:55

No man is an island entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

Sad
Xiaoxiong · 31/01/2020 22:59

Oh unruly I was just barely ok again after seeing the MEPs singing auld Lang syne and now you've set me off again** Sad

BlackeyedSusan · 31/01/2020 23:00

Goodbye EU.

DivisionBelles · 31/01/2020 23:00

Goodbye Euro friends :(

AdaFromYorkshire · 31/01/2020 23:01

Desperately sad here. It's actually happened now.

Pywife2 · 31/01/2020 23:01

Like other posters, very sad tonight, and also apprehensive about the future for our country.

And feeling additionally sad and disappointed that some people found it necessary to come on this thread, asking disingenuous questions and having a go. It doesn't bode well. In some ways I feel like I'm living in a foreign country, one run by 'the school bullies', as a previous poster has said.

TheGreatWave · 31/01/2020 23:01

Bloody fireworks.
