Resigned
This is just the start
SHOUT
STAND UP
CALL OUT RACISM
CALL OUR XENOPHOBIA
nothing is lost till the trade deals are signed

RedToothBrush · 31/01/2020 21:11

Ok, last two hours of being in the EU. So yes. If anyone else has a song which either celebrates Europe or shares a few feelings you have about everything....

Well... it has to be done...

Christ, the people across the street have been letting fireworks off for the last 20 minutes. It’s not even 9.30. Still, it lets you know who to avoid.

Tr1skel1on · 31/01/2020 21:28

I haven't been logged in to MN for ages, possibly a year. I couldn't let tonight happen without popping back to thank RTB, BCF and everyone else for the insightful analysis, witty comments and general camaraderie. Watching all the many votes on parliament TV knowing you were all doing the same meant something. Thank you.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 31/01/2020 21:40

Ah feck. I'm going to sleep as I can't bear to watch 11pm come and go Sad

yolofish · 31/01/2020 21:47

I'm waiting up for DD2 to get in, but actually seriously considering going to bed now. The 'celebrants' in Westminster Sq are setting fire to EU flags - can you just IMAGINE the furore if Remainers had done that to the Union Jack?

I'm back
Thanks for the good wishes everyone 👍
It was a lovely time with a bunch of lovely blokes (that sounds odd, but you know what I mean !)

listening The lads were all drinking non-alcoholic beer, so I was the only boozer Wink
I had one glass of mulled wine and a big bottle of water
So I was perfectly fit to cycle home - and my bike knows the way

The starter was communal and we also shared my chips side, so my colleagues - German, Morroccan, Indian, S Korean - & I (English-Arab) all dipping in happily together
Sharing food is special and sharing food without spilling blood means I really liked them
So is sharing laughter

Missclimpson You're right, my first week of retirement has felt a bit odd - as if I should be doing something ! - but I thoroughly enjoyed it

BigChocFrenzy · 31/01/2020 21:53

FUCK OFF BREXSHIT

The glorious Joan Baez expresses my more sober feelings of determination

"We shall overcome:"

I remember when she first sang it in 1969

  • Missclimpson, GeistOhneGrenzen and a few other Westministenders are sufficiently senior to also remember

Younger Westministenders, if you don't know the music of Joan Baez, listen to her glorious pure voice and learn what you have missed:

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 31/01/2020 22:03

I'm largely ignoring brexit day and instead almost fully absorbing myself in transfer deadline day instead. Far more important to real life obviously. Best I can do to get through at least

WifeofDarth · 31/01/2020 22:09

Just popping by to say I'm still reading, and will continue to do so. Thanks to all contributors for keeping the thread going. Am very surprised at how sad I feel this evening. Of course I knew it was coming, but I thought I was 'over it'. Apparently not.

RedToothBrush · 31/01/2020 22:11

BCF, I've not heard that before. Thank you.

Music is a great tonic for the soul, especially when something shit is happening.

Lurker, who at the final knockings for this stage at least, wanted to say thanks for the best political analysis and interesting chat of the last 3 years I could have hoped for on this thread. l'm so sad tonight, but thanks for everything to you and the EU

BlackeyedSusan · 31/01/2020 22:24

Happy retirement BCF.

Good luck one and all. Here's hoping there will be good things to come.

I have been inspired by words up thread to put on the headphones again and improve my poor French and take another baby step in German.

Goodbye EU 🇪🇺 look after our ⭐

Pass the tissues.

fridascruffs · 31/01/2020 22:31

Long time lurker. I've read these threads regularly since the beginning. Thanks and good luck to you all.

icannotremember · 31/01/2020 22:31

My heart hurts.

borntobequiet · 31/01/2020 22:39

Fun bus journey from the airport into the city in the company of a Canadian girl engaged to a Portuguese and a French/Irish lady from Dublin. Commiserations all round. Tired now so going to bed, will catch up tomorrow, thanks and good wishes to all.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 31/01/2020 22:40

I wonder which industries and companies will feel the strain first? And will it start to play our during the transition or one year from now?

theoriginalmadambee · 31/01/2020 22:42

We'll try to take care of your star. Perhaps waiting for Scotland to join?

Watching your brexit celebrations on tv right now Sad.

Take care all Smile 👋.

DrBlackbird · 31/01/2020 22:44

Also wanted to say a thank you to RTB, Big Choc, LQ, DRG and everyone else for these threads as they've been a place of consolation and informed analysis amongst the hubris and obfuscation of leavers. I fear we'll need them more than ever going foward.

I"m resolutely not watching the news and thank god no fire works within hearing distance. So am going to go lick my wounds and go to sleep and wake up a sadder and more sadder person tomorrow.

BigChocFrenzy · 31/01/2020 22:48

Thanks, Madambee 👍
