Alive and Kicking! Post-Election Therapy

ChrismArseDarkly · 19/12/2019 22:49

I am aghast and devastated by the election result. The decision to elect the corrupt Tories is a terrible stain on our country and a lot of shit will come of it.

Despite that, I fully intend to lol my way through this bloody awful time. Feel free to come in here and be daft and laugh in the face of the Powers That Be and all their hench-goblins

Thanks to ListeningQuietly for posting the Malcolm Tucker compilation on the WM thread - a real shot in the arm and I will be borrowing his magnificent insults freely! Grin

Uplifting stuff also welcome - I heard this song last Friday morning while still reeling and it made me feel stronger

Oh and by the way - Fuck You Boris Johnson!

Get a good fix of
Alan B'stard
The Two Johns
Pete and Dud
Not the Nine oClock News
as they were all very prescient on Brexit

have been watching The Thick of it recently
a tad too close to the bone

squid4 · 20/12/2019 14:51

I'm off sick , A&E is utterly broken and I can't really engage with Christmas. I've deleted all my social media accounts, avoiding the news. Trying to just see real friends, who are all like - fuck you are really burned out.

ChrismArseDarkly · 20/12/2019 15:41

Hi squid hope I can find some cheering stuff later when I'm not working. Thanks for what you do, though I can understand you're probably reaching the limit Flowers

For squid4

ListeningQuietly · 20/12/2019 18:12

@squid4
I have become a big fan of rambling around the darker reaches of iplayer to find relaxing programmes to watch
there are lots and they remind you that the world is a wonderful place

BouleBaker · 20/12/2019 18:25

I’m watching Christmas movies, avoiding the news and have moved Facebook off my phone for a while.

Just can’t cope with Boris in charge.

ChrismArseDarkly · 20/12/2019 19:11

they remind you that the world is a wonderful place
I'll drink to that Xmas Smile Wine

I wouldn't want to be in Boris' fat shoes when he displeases Cummings -

"I won't scare you, OK, I'll just explain what i'm gonna fucking do to you. I'm gonna take your balls, i'm gonna fucking rip them off and paint fucking eyeballs on them. And I'm gonna stitch them onto a fucking sock and use THAT as a mouthpiece"

Armando Ianucci's film of David Copperfield is coming out early next year - should be good Xmas Smile

Grinchly · 20/12/2019 20:33

Oh lovely @squid4 .

Darling let your loved ones hold you in gentleness and take care of you for now.

Allow yourself to feel the warmth of their love.

It is terrifying, I know. All I can tell you is that the wheel will turn and you will come back to yourself, and the sun, and the light.

KenDodd · 20/12/2019 20:45

I think this is quite appropriate to 'celebrate' Brexit.

KenDodd · 20/12/2019 20:48

And if this doesn't make you laugh, nothing will.

KenDodd · 20/12/2019 21:00

Another Brexit metaphor. The caller is the Brexiteer and Brexit is in the box (I suspect the box is empty)

DuckWillow · 20/12/2019 21:10

I didn’t want Boris Johnson as PM and nor did I want Corbyn. They both have faults which I don’t like. As such I knew I was going to be hacked off last Friday.

I am unimpressed with the past nine years and austerity because I support families with disabled children and I know how much the cuts have affected vulnerable people.

But...let’s take a breath.

We now have a majority Govt who instead of arguing about Brexit will move forward with it. This means there will be more time to focus on the NHS and education etc (being optimistic here).

Boris is more Central than some others...IDS for example.

The Govt has been elected by traditionally Labour areas and to retain that independence they will have to show some commitment to those areas which have made the switch.

I will say I’ve largely stopped reading the news regarding politics because we don’t seem to get any news which hasn’t been spun in some way to make it seem dreadful or wonderful. It was messing with my mental health so I’ve stopped.

Apart from that I suggest

Just breathing
Laughing a lot...and you sound like you have a good plan there.

And we have a Gavin and Stacey Xmas Special to come on Xmas Day...if that’s your thing. I loved the series and can’t wait to see the new episode

CrissmussMockers · 20/12/2019 21:30

If, as seems likely, the Labour Party proves itself to be nothing but a private club for autofelating parcelwrap, we must start to ask the question:

What would it take to detoxify the new Blue-collar friendly Tory Party such that someone with a moral compass and functioning cortex could contemplate voting for it?

A mass purge of smug gloating misathropic bastards at the post-Brexit reshuffle would be akin to a miracle of potentially Damascine proportions.

What are the odds?

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 20/12/2019 21:39

I always find Dead Ringers (BBC radio 4/Friday night comedy podcast) very cheering when things are bleak.

Last week’s furious Theresa May was excellent Smile

ListeningQuietly · 20/12/2019 21:42

stupid but snigger

ListeningQuietly · 20/12/2019 21:43

deeply stupid but snigger

tobee · 20/12/2019 21:59

I was doing really well avoiding the news, and just peeking on here a bit. Then I went to the local Sainsbury's, and my eyes hypnotically fixed on the newspaper's front page while I was queueing for the self checkout.

All my self soothing and avoidance strategies were shot to pieces and I alternately ranted/apologised to dd all the way home.

Sorry haven't been in spirit of thread here but had to let if steam!

ListeningQuietly · 20/12/2019 22:04

Watching "THe Third Man" on Netflix

perspective is great
use lots of perspective
until the current blizzard starts to fall into perspective

Microdot · 20/12/2019 22:10

Cats and cucumbers is that a thing? Must ry it out on dotcat, get my own back Grin
