Johnson already seems to be hinting at protections for workers rights and the environment that he promised are to be dropped.

Along with enshrining Brexit in law to the end of Dec 2020 thus creating another Brexit no deal date. This time without any safety net in parliament.

"won't Johnson be more liberal than he suggested" they cry

About that...

Well done Jez and Jo

Fuck that shit.

Songsofexperience · 20/12/2019 15:44

That was deeply sarcastic...

BercowsFestiveFlamingo · 20/12/2019 15:54

So that's it, we leave on the 31st Sad Fuck you BJ as you have fucked us.

Peregrina · 20/12/2019 15:58

Apart from the six Labour MPs voting with the Tories everyone else was against. So when it goes tits up the Leavers crowing on here won't be able to blame the Remain MPs or the Opposition.

Meanwhile, new Tory MPs are going the ERG. So much for Johnson neutering them.

BercowsFestiveFlamingo · 20/12/2019 16:05

Hang on, it has to pass the lords doesn't it? Give me hope here please!

Songsofexperience · 20/12/2019 16:07

I suppose it's more lucrative...

The Lords are not going to oppose a motion passing a manifesto commitment. They might try to amend, but government has a stonking majority and any hope that the Lords will stop it is sadly a delusion.

HesterThrale · 20/12/2019 16:11

Yup. Clearly the opposition will have to play the long game.

And I see there are still Labour MPs who will vote with the government, even after the departure of Hoey, Mann etc. Clearly no stipulation was put on them by JC to vote with the party, as happened with the Tories.

Peregrina · 20/12/2019 16:13

I think if it's a manifesto pledge the Lords don't block it. I hope they do whatever is in their power to say that no, this is not being done in their name. The Opposition of all stripes MUST get the Tories to own this.

If it really does unleash Great Britain's potential, then yes, they can take all the credit.

I can't see how the leaving the EU unleashes Britain's potential given that it wasn't the EU which hamstrung Britain's potential.

BercowsFestiveFlamingo · 20/12/2019 16:15

There goes my tiny ray of hope. January is back to stockpiling then. Did the bit get passed about no extension? I've been at a carol concert at school so missed the debate and vote.

Peregrina · 20/12/2019 16:16

Caroline Flint voted with the Tories in the last Government, but despite her first class Brexit credentials, her voters threw her out of her seat.

lonelyplanetmum · 20/12/2019 16:53

* ( In response to a direct question How do you know all this?*

They both expressly said so, one to me directly and the other to her daughter who then told me. Both said that they were voting Brexit because this was a Christian country and there were too many Muslims.

Anyway it's academic now as they got what they wanted ie the Brexit part. It's just that the second part of their wish will not happen mercifully .)

Completely appreciate that this attitude does not represent all Christians.

DustyDiamond · 20/12/2019 17:02

Completely appreciate that this attitude does not represent all Christians, nor all leave voters

(Fixed it for you 😇)

mybrainhurtsalot · 20/12/2019 17:03

I found myself shouting at the radio last night - Jill Rutter was talking about how leaving the EU would mean nimble Britain could be at the forefront of driverless car technology, setting the standards that the rest of the world would follow. It’s just so fucking tragic.

chatongris · 20/12/2019 17:05

Meanwhile, new Tory MPs are going the ERG. So much for Johnson neutering them.

Unless you think this is why he doesn't want parliament to have a say and why he isn't going to allow anyone to mention Brexit.

CrissmussMockers · 20/12/2019 17:23

The Lords can't block it but they can send it back with amendments, such as restoring the protection of workers' rights (how very odd that fell off) and especially the rights of child refugees.

Peregrina · 20/12/2019 17:26

could be at the forefront of driverless car technology, setting the standards that the rest of the world would follow. It’s just so fucking tragic.

It could, but I strongly doubt that it will. It needs investment in both machinery and training, and I don't see the Tories doing either.

DGRossetti · 20/12/2019 17:27

The Lords can't block it but they can send it back with amendments, such as restoring the protection of workers' rights (how very odd that fell off) and especially the rights of child refugees.

Which the Commons can rip out again. Without explanation.

Peregrina · 20/12/2019 17:31

Unless you think this is why he doesn't want parliament to have a say and why he isn't going to allow anyone to mention Brexit.

I will believe that when I see it! If he does manage, I will give him the credit for outwitting the ERG. It probably could only be done by a devious lying so and so, but would be everything the ERG deserve.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 20/12/2019 17:37

Even if Lords amendments do get rejected at least it forces people to expressly reject workers rights etc rather than just vote for something that doesn’t have them.

CrissmussMockers · 20/12/2019 17:39

...Which the Commons can rip out again. Without explanation.

Yes to the first but No to the second. They would be challeged in debate and would have to offer some excuse explanation.

ListeningQuietly · 20/12/2019 17:53

Its depressing to be proved right about what an utter git Johnson is turning out to be
