Brexit

What are you most looking forward to POST-Brexit?

Pumperthepumper · 15/12/2019 17:42

I was a remain voter, and voted tactically against the Tories. I lost.

But onwards and upwards! We’re getting Brexit in January, like it or not, so I was just wondering what everyone was looking forward to the most?

I asked on a different pro-Brexit thread but nobody gave me an answer.

For me it’s the 350 million to the NHS with no trade deals with Trump. Or the continuing Peace in NI with no messing around with the GFA. Or the trade deals we’ve been promised without any reduction in standards.

I’m so ready to be convinced of how brilliant Brexit will be! Let me hear your positives, please Flowers

Ok Peregrina sorry. I was just trying to adapt to the likelihood of Eng and Wales being the likely reinstated unit going forwards?

When you see it through an historical telescope Eng/Wales have been separate from Scotland and Ireland for far longer than we've been united. The average historical status quo, iyswim, is separate.

Peregrina · 16/12/2019 09:09

A quick lesson in how FPTP works to explain?

Corbyn, although I am no fan of his, I believe got more votes this time than Blair did in his 1997 landslide. I don't know how many of these were due to population increases though.

Jason118 · 16/12/2019 09:10

Another remainer who doesn’t accept that reason conservatives stormed the election is that they were the only party that stated they would honour the result of the 2016 referendum.

Lol

MysteryTripAgain · 16/12/2019 09:10

Looking forward to the Tory's not being in power for at least another 20 years due to not being able to blame their total fuck up of Brexit and not being able to blame any one else

It would take labour maximum 4 years to bankrupt the UK.

FenellaMaxwell · 16/12/2019 09:14

I am a remainder through and through. I voted tactically against the tories and so did my DH. SH is a high earner, so I suppose the tax perks for rich people will be nice. And my trust fund is in euros so that will go up.

Peregrina · 16/12/2019 09:14

Well since Labour isn't in power, when the UK is bankrupted we will know where the blame lies.

Jason118 · 16/12/2019 09:14

More lols. Keep going!

MysteryTripAgain · 16/12/2019 09:15

Labour 1997 victory certainly was a landslide of the UK into bankruptcy. Immigration became uncontrolled and the most famous note of all

“There is no money left”

Labours artificial 40% in 2017 was due to Corbyn’s lie about scrapping student frees. My stepdaughter used two different addresses so she could vote labour twice.

MysteryTripAgain · 16/12/2019 09:18

Classic champagne socialist view of the world.

I missed have missed this. Did we have to go to the IMF? Lol.

NotMaryWhitehouse · 16/12/2019 09:20

@Baguetteaboutit that's a fabulous post and I shall be pointing it out to everyone of both sides so we can all get collectively shouty about it to our erstwhile MPs when they fuck up and try to lay the blame elsewhere 👍🏻

Frenchw1fe · 16/12/2019 09:21

I'm looking forward to people like @MysteryTripAgain eating their words.

And I may invest in drugs companies to offset the huge price increases in medicines.

NotMaryWhitehouse · 16/12/2019 09:21

@Ihatemyseleffordoingthis 🤣

FenellaMaxwell · 16/12/2019 09:23

@MysteryTripAgain sarcasm is lost on you, isn’t it? Hmm

Pumperthepumper · 16/12/2019 09:42

Yes! The ‘Fuck Anyone Worse Off Than Me, Why Should I Help Them?’ principle!

Without that principle there will always be people who will sit back and let others do all the work.

With a bit of luck we’ll be able to save money by fucking over disabled people a bit more too!

But these are party politics - the question is, what positives are you most looking forward to post-Brexit? What, out of the many ways we’ll be better off, is your favourite Brexit outcome?

It’s really strange that even the most ardent Brexit voters are so reluctant to share the positive outcomes, I can’t understand it.

Once we're separate from the EU, but forced to take an interest in their politics and regulations, etc. because they'll be our main trading partner, I'm looking forward to a massive improvement in reporting/broadcasting on European affairs (like we get about elections, etc. in the US now). Lots more work for journalists too, as we'll have to have them stationed in Brussels, key European capitals, etc. to explain how/why their subsidies to EU members will wipe out British industry.

Sarcelle · 16/12/2019 09:49

I am looking forward to focussing on other issues than BREXIT. The last 4 years have been a period of stagnation and resources being diverted to BREXIT and I think it's important that we focus on the future, our new future. Whatever your political hue, this is the line in the sand and we have no option but to look forward now.

Pumperthepumper · 16/12/2019 09:53

Me too Sarcelle and we won’t have long to wait - Boris Johnson has promised we’ll have a trade deal all tied up with the EU by December, was it? Remarkably quickly, record-breaking, in fact.

Another positive!

Ah Mystery is still around. Their script on the Ireland thread was a bit off to say the least, but they keep on reaching for that rainbow..

Sweetpotatoaddict · 16/12/2019 10:02

I’m looking forward to feeling smug when suddenly colleagues on maternity leave don’t accrue holidays any longer. I’m glad I’ve completed my family.

ACouchOfOnesOwn · 16/12/2019 10:04

At some point, I'd hope the threads like this will dry up. MN can return to being a place where posters can debate politics with respect for other's views - the ageist agitating will lessen and threads can run without someone shoehorning Brexit into every discussion. That would be wonderful.
I hate the way Brexit has changed how people discuss politics. Dividing the electorate into good/bad; young/old; stupid/smart - it's as tedious as it is naive. I'm looking forward to a return to nuance. I'm not holding my breath.

Voila212 · 16/12/2019 10:11

Mystery is determined to blame Ireland for every wrong thing about Brexit and seems to relish in the idea of Ireland been ruined post Brexit. Did an Irish person bully you when you were young Mystery. Your posts are becoming repetitive and a bit embarrasing. I think a bit of counselling may be in order or at least repeat after yourself ' Ireland is not to blame'......
For me been Irish I'm looking forward to my government getting back to dealing with other issues, Brexit has taken over politics here and other problems have been out on the back burner for far too long.

ssd · 16/12/2019 10:13

I'm looking forward to seeing Boris and his pals explain they won't pay the EU money to leave whilst sticking out their lower lip

What japes

Pumperthepumper · 16/12/2019 10:14

But ACouchOfOnesOwn this isn’t supposed to be a nuanced thread, it’s a simple question that should have several answers - what’s your favourite benefit to the post-Brexit world we’re getting in February? Or, which of the things we’ve been promised are you most looking forward to?

I'm looking forward to never hearing the word Brexit ever again. I suspect it will be replaced by Brejoin.
