I've a lot of time for Chaminda Jayanetta.

This is a very angry reflection on the privilege in the top circle of Corbynist Labour: www.politics.co.uk/comment-analysis/2019/12/13/corbyn-catastrophe-it-went-exactly-as-wrong-as-critics-said

You know, that privilege did not go unseen by working class voters.

If there is one thing worse than a posh toff, it's a posh toff making a grab for working class identity whilst maintaining privilege.

People aren't dim.

Peregrina · 13/12/2019 18:37

you do realise that Edinburgh is more westerly than Bristol?

Yes. While we are consoling ourselves with a geography quiz: If you go south from Glasgow, which is the first English County that you cross?

frumpety · 13/12/2019 18:37

Piggy I am not suggesting people don't have the right to be devastated , I just think working in the area I do skews my perspective a bit and I have had to learn to try and compartmentalise for the good of my own MH. Sorry if it came across as not being very sympathetic Sad

Random18 · 13/12/2019 18:39

Is in Northumberland? I would have said Cumbria bit now I am questioning Grin

lonelyplanetmum · 13/12/2019 18:41

That's an interesting post DGR. I think from an archaeologists perspective it helps that this chapter is a mere speck on the dust mite of time.

As for No, he won't. That is too much like hard work for him.** I thought the following words in his speech were interesting.

... “I will make it my mission to work night and day, flat out to ..."

Someone who dies work flat out 24/7 wouldn't say that. Clearly the joys are getting to him but yup maybe the ERG will just use him as a puppet.

thecatfromjapan · 13/12/2019 18:42

Cards on table, I don't think Lisa Nandy is what a Labour needs now.

She is another backwards step.

And by that, I mean choosing her is a case of locking the stable door after the horse has bolted.

Realistically, she's who we needed fighting this GE.

She's not going to move us forwards to where we need to be to fight the next one.

But ... I have no idea who that might be.

Random18 · 13/12/2019 18:43

Wow just looked at map Grin

Molly123456 · 13/12/2019 18:43

I commiserate with you all The best party won labour could have won except for the socialist aspect ie the movement that no one wanted.

Piggywaspushed · 13/12/2019 18:45

Oh no frumpety. I didn't think it did!!

Piggywaspushed · 13/12/2019 18:46

No, Piggywashpushed but you have the right idea.

derxa · 13/12/2019 18:49

Farming severely affected. Farmers seem to be unaware of the extent to which the E.U. protected traditional farming. Expect dominance by corporate farming and super-automation. It will be unrecognisable. Do you know anything about farming?

Piggywaspushed · 13/12/2019 18:50

Well, see because Wales is in the way, I am confused. It must be Devon?

Violetparis · 13/12/2019 18:50

Cat out of interest where do you think Labour needs to be to fight the next election ?

Peregrina · 13/12/2019 18:51

We have to go back to the early 90s and ask What made John Smith look like a Prime Minister in waiting?

Corbyn most certainly didn't.

Nor did Jo Swinson - unfortunately her stance reminded me of David Steel's 'Go and prepare for Government' which did not turn out well.

Johnson isn't Prime Ministerial either - and here I have to console myself that all political careers end in failure.

Piggywaspushed · 13/12/2019 18:54

John Smith didn't have the media hounding, fake news, etc etc. mind. I think now he'd be savaged, undeservedly obviously.

Piggywaspushed · 13/12/2019 18:54

ps Am I right about Devon??

thecatfromjapan · 13/12/2019 18:56

Violet I don't know. 🤷‍♀️ it's why I'm reading people's answers & asking questions. And thinking about people's answers.

I spent the last hour or so pondering Lisa Nandy in the light of people's enthusiasm.

🙂

I think we have a problem in that the person the Party will vote for us not necessarily the person the Party needs. (And someone electable is probably a different person yet again.)

But things may well look different in the New Year.

SunnyUplandsOhNoTurnipSoup · 13/12/2019 18:57

Peregrine looks like you would emerge from the Bristol Channel on Exmoor - looks too far west for the Somerset bit of the National Park so Devon just a hop from here! difficult to see on my phone. Looks like Random and Piggy have got it!

Peregrina · 13/12/2019 18:58

Yes, it's Devon.

Piggywaspushed · 13/12/2019 18:59

Yay! Grin

Piggywaspushed · 13/12/2019 19:00

Trump isn't presidential either but he lingers...
