Exit poll

Con majority of 68.

65 seats regarded technically as still too close to call. But that could mean an even bigger majority.

Blyth Valley has seen a 10% swing to the cons in line with the exit poll. 1st shock of the night

Thanks, so Layla is away with the fairies
I haven't missed anything by not having her in my life before

I don't think people are going to be waking up feeling like we're not a divided nation. Of course, lots of people will be thinking that's a good thing.

Difficultcustomer · 13/12/2019 04:26

Mine has gone blue, labour heartland, ex mining area. Was a good constituency MP. Madness Sad

Labour have spent years giving the middle finger to their traditional voter base. Why do you think Labour has an imperial right to voters in an ex mining community? Grimsby has gone Conservative. Good call Labour to run on London’s desire for a second referendum. Take a look in the mirror instead of insulting voters

If northern working class voters think the tories and brexit are the answer to their problems good luck to them.

tobee · 13/12/2019 04:36

Looks like Cameron made a good call. Big majority for Tories. Labour Party destroyed. Wouldn't have thought he's bothered to be out of it in his shepherds hut

Lucygoeswalkies · 13/12/2019 04:36

A glimmer of light in the darkness. Plaid Cymru hold in my constituency.

tobee · 13/12/2019 04:38

With you there Frank

tobee · 13/12/2019 04:39

Totally not sleepy here!

Alsohuman · 13/12/2019 04:40

Nor me tobee. I won’t be going to bed any time soon.

BovaryX · 13/12/2019 04:40

Newcastle under Lyme! Labour since 1919! It’s gone too

RedToothBrush · 13/12/2019 04:41

Derby North goes blue.

Former Labour anti-semitic MP Chris Williamson stood.

He got 635 votes.

I went to bed after the exit poll, so I'm up for the day now (thanks insomnia 😏).
Mine stayed blue, but with a reduced majority.

prettybird · 13/12/2019 04:41

TheMustressMhor - not sure, I think it might be up to 5 Grin.... but at last you've kindly offered to provide an overflow facility Wink

I suspect that the culture shock will be less in Glasgow than the Highlands and Islands Wink

On a serious note, the faint positive is how many people on this thread now understand more about the driving forces behind independence and the desire for self-determination.

Alsohuman · 13/12/2019 04:45

Oh God, Liz Truss is back.

RedToothBrush · 13/12/2019 04:46

Manchester Withington

Charlotte Dobson
@dobsonMEN
Lucy Bannister, Greens - 1968
John Leech, Lib Dem - 7997
Jeff Smith, Labour - 35902
Stephen Ward, Brexit - 1308
Shengke Zhou, Conservative - 5820

Is this now the safest labour seat in the north???

Difficultcustomer · 13/12/2019 04:46

I don’t think labour has a right to rule. I think the place I live will be worse off under a Conservative government. The only choice here was between labour and conservative. I shouldn’t have put the “madness” maybe. I’m just sad

tobee · 13/12/2019 04:48

Actually watching a bit of Classic Eastenders as well as posting here. Grin

prettybird · 13/12/2019 04:48

Musing on another issue: I used to stay on the BBC for the whole electoral coverage. I've just realised that I've stayed on Sky News for almost all of it this time - only having a look at the BBC when Faragit, Raab or Javid or some other execrable character was being interviewed on Sky.

Is that another illustration of how the BBC has fallen? Hmm

TheMustressMhor · 13/12/2019 04:49

Don't apologise for your feelings, Difficultcustomer.

And I agree - all these results in favour of worsening austerity and decimating the NHS are indeed madness.

Sorry, rubbish memory so I can’t remember your name, but thanks to the PP who gave the heads up that I could watch Sky news live on YouTube. Much better than watching LK on the Beeb!

BovaryX · 13/12/2019 04:53

So voters are mad because they didn’t vote Labour? Maybe Labour’s policies are mad and that’s why voters rejected them. But hey. Just keep insulting voters, call them stupid for refusing to obediently line up behind Labour. And this will be the result.
