Brexit Arms: Election Night Lock-In

Welcome to the Brexit Arms - it's going to be a stormy old night! We're about to be buffeted from right to left and back again with no real idea what the landscape will finally look like in the morning. All are welcome to weather the storm in the warmth and safety of the Arms - but please remember this a hospitable establishment so let's try and keep it that way.

We're kicking off the evening with our Back to the 70's theme night while we wait for the big main event to unfold. The juke box is loaded with all your 70's favourites. Feel free to dance round your handbags but please, no dancing on the tables…. this could be seen as having too much fun.

As always, we've got a nice big pot of PG Tips on the brew and Camp coffee by the mugfuls in addition to our usual alcoholic beverages.

On a serious note, we know that tonight's events are going to cause some upsets. With this in mind, the mint imperial bowls on the bar have been filled with Diocalms and we urge all our customers to make use of these. There should be enough to go round as long as nobody starts trying to stockpile. We simply cannot risk the need for plumbers to unblock our loos on Friday morning, as they could have been called out on strike by then.

Landladies on duty tonight will be:

20:00-22:00 Greenish (with Babychams, Cherry B's and vol au vents)
2200-midnight Twattage (with Classic Dmitris and cheeseboard)
Midnight-0200 Singing (with stiff brandies to calm the nerves, plus a selection of fresh nuts)
0200-0400 Hate (possibly with Albanian delicacies and a hangover cure)

We'd like to get the glitter ball turning with this absolute classic:

….fingers crossed similar scenes will abound in the Arms by the end of tonight. Enjoy!

P.s. When ordering drinks between 8pm and 10pm please supply your own drinks emojis. Thankyou!

Wonky I don't think so. Not a single leaver I know didn't think it would be ever done quickly.
What is clear, it was impossible to deliver anything with parliament hijacked.

Something can certainly be done. We have a much better chance to get the big ball rolling. This also sends a clear message to Brussels.

RaiseaGlasstoFreedom · 13/12/2019 07:30

Bear I agree... He was truly brexits best gift.

It would have been harder to win against a normal Labour party

Bearbehind · 13/12/2019 07:34

Threw not through!

leckford · 13/12/2019 07:37

Corbyn and the extremely nasty Momentum cult, lead by the really nasty Landesman need to go, but from watching last night they won’t. Conservative governments for the foreseeable future

MeganBacon · 13/12/2019 07:40

Brew Morning my lovelies
My faith in the common sense of the silent majority is restored. I do think Boris is a moderate Tory and only really took a slight D-tour to the right as a means to get a majority. Now he'll plan a merkel-style land grab of the centre of politics, and it'll be a good thing.
Hopeful the Labour party take a long hard look at themselves. We need much better opposition.

Also remembering that things are never as good (or as bad, for those who are upset this morning) as they seem.

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 13/12/2019 07:46

Saucery

You did everything you could.
Petitions, marches, court action.
It’s got you nowhere.
So to quote Boris, it’s time to stick a sock in your megaphone.

Saucery · 13/12/2019 07:53

I voted Leave and Conservative, scoundrel Smile

littlebillie · 13/12/2019 07:53

Megan I agree I think he will be more centralist

wonkylegs · 13/12/2019 08:02

@RaiseaGlasstoFreedom
Unfortunately lots of people round here do think it will be done quickly
There are some who understand it's a complex process but many who have no understanding of what it entails and have faith in what they have been told that come 31st of Jan - it will be done and then they can get back to normality.

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 13/12/2019 08:04

Sorry Saucery, I’m not a regular enough regular & only read your 1st paragraph Blush

Songsofexperience · 13/12/2019 08:06

So to quote Boris, it’s time to stick a sock in your megaphone.

He's our PM, not our master.
I'll never shut up just because a man says so.

Limer · 13/12/2019 08:23

Good Morning!!!!!

Dozed off when the result was definite and have woken to the glorious news that those exit polls were right Grin

Full English, and a large coffee with brandy cream please landlady!

DustyDiamond · 13/12/2019 08:23

I'm still awake & slightly delirious...!

With such a stonking majority Boris isn't beholden to the ERG now

He'll push through the WAB ASAP obvs, but I suspect he'll not steamroll the end-state of Brexit through now & take an extension to transition if reqd (but obvs he's more leverage as he's not at mercy of remainer parliament anymore so EU less likely to gamble)

He needs to drive through some good stuff to invest in & develop the left behind areas, including transport links as soon as poss as well because he's now leading the party of the working classes

I'm feeling so optimistic today - it's like 2016 all over again 😍

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 13/12/2019 08:25

Can’t wait to watch C4 news tonight. They’ll be choking on their words.

HateIsNotGood · 13/12/2019 08:27

Huge apologies from me for not leaving the sofa last night - it's all a bit of a blur really during the 'small hours' - drifting in and out of sleep, waking up to watch and check up.

No matter who they are, or what party they represent, I always feel a bit sad when a sitting MP loses. I find watching acceptance speeches with people in funny costumes behind them a good antidote.

I doubt I will get anything done today.

Songsofexperience · 13/12/2019 08:28

dusty
I truly hope you're right. Deep down, I just want the same thing you do: a prosperous country.
However, I just don't trust him. I'm not sure we'll get that agenda from him. We can only wait and see I guess.

Saucery · 13/12/2019 08:31

That's OK scoundrel. I do regret the Leave vote tbh. But it is what it is and we need to look at where we can all go from here. My megaphone is in storage for now but if I see a use for it I'll be getting it out.
Govt has to listen to the people. All of them. Not please everyone but as many as possible need their confidence restored.
I look forward to an Opposition that is some use so they need to think on.

time4chocolate · 13/12/2019 08:35

Definitely got a 2016 feeling today Dusty😍

.....because he's now leading the party of the working classes who'd have thought that possible a few years ago. Let's hope he doesn't lose sight of that.

MPs were ignorant to think they could f*k people over post June 2016 and the ones that tried are now paying the price. Democracy trumps all.

I hope MPs have learnt a valuable lesson.

Happy Friday 13th Comrades 🥀✊

GreenishMe · 13/12/2019 08:37

Morning everyone

What a night! I had to tear myself away at about 4.30am so I'd be able to wake up at 6.30am this morning. I'm going yo grab myself a very strong coffee

Democracy trumps all

As long as it's not democracy Trump style.

DustyDiamond · 13/12/2019 08:41

We can only wait and see I guess.

Brew🕊

He's been voted in by the working class Songs.
He only has his majority because he flipped lifelong Labour strongholds to blue.

If he wants to win another GE he has to deliver in a tangible way - to ignore the people who gave him his mandate would guarantee his removal at next GE

I'm concerned more about Labour navel gazing again & trying to reheat Corbynism with a new face tbh

I'm genuinely gutted that brilliant MPs such as Caroline Flint & Luciana Berger have lost their seats but I wonder if this now creates space for a proper centre left party that isn't beholden to the woke middle class lefties in hock to ideology.

The SDP is a party that I'm keeping an eye on at the mo & they would def benefit from some big & experienced names going forward.

DustyDiamond · 13/12/2019 08:44

Democracy trumps all.
I hope MPs have learnt a valuable lesson.

And yet again we effected change without physical protests or civil unrest

Millions of pencil marks on millions of pieces of paper

Democracy is so fucking precious

DustyDiamond · 13/12/2019 08:45

Can't believe you're still here Dusty :)

Present but not involved 😘

GreenishMe · 13/12/2019 08:48

Isn't it weird how different it seems now?

Over the last 3 years I'd almost become resigned to believing that they were going to be allowed to ignore our democratic vote and the country were going to accept that.

This morning it's like....of course they couldn't get away with that - why on earth did I think they could?? It seems silly that I even doubted that our country would turn a blind eye to our democratic vote being trampled all over like that.

....and I bet that's how the Labour party and the LD's are feeling this morning too.
