Westminstenders: The Undecideds

Apparently the pollsters are nervous.

There are far more undecided than there have been at this stage in recent general election.

This makes it a hugely fine line between a hung parliament and a massive tory majority.

The weather on Thursday isn't expected to be nice and this could affect turnout. The blue corner are particularly nervous about this, but don't forget those postal votes.

Whatever happens on Thursday at least this election campaign is nearly over. And that can't be a bad thing.

And Christmas is in a fortnight so we can all drown our sorrows or celebrate in style.

You always have time to restock the drinks if you end up resort to them on Thursday

(New election special thread on Thursday rather than bunging up Westminstenders BTW)

I’m delighted to see like-minded tree base haters Crown Grin I think I’m going to start a Cover Your Tree Base party. Although I may need to think of a few more policies.

We've got a blue spruce this year

From the guidance on opening postal votes.

www.electoralcommission.org.uk/media/1826

Keep the ballot papers face down at all times. Don’t look or allow others to look at the votes marked on the ballot papers. Place ballot papers in the postal ballot box or appropriate receptacle and proceed to Stage 5.

NarfZort · 11/12/2019 16:39

I'm making the assumption, based on "the actual votes are not counted at this stage" in the linked flowchart, that the sealed ballot boxes are stored until the actual count starts on election night.

I (cough) acquired it a while back and watched it all. Fascinating. Eating weeds, making cheese, and chasing pigs as I recall. DW isn't so into history as I am, but caught snatches. She nicknamed it "the music one", as they did overdo it a bit.

If you had to boil history down to a boxset a term (and they are) then somethind like that should be thrown in to highlight how tough and hard life used to be for the 90% that weren't Lord and Lady muck. Who knows, the way things are going, it could also be a good primer Sad ?

I also acquired all the Time Team episodes (well over 100) and had a binge watch a few years ago. RIP Mick Sad

That is a flagrant breach of the law. I hope she is arrested and sacked. It is not good enough.Im not one for a pile on and it has intrigued me that right wingers accuse her of left wing bias, but she’s the BBC lead political journalist. She must be aware of the law. I’m aware of it with a 40 year old politics A level and these things can influence the outcome. Disgraceful.

Stinkyeddie · 11/12/2019 16:44

It really is great, isn't it?? :)
It fascinates me how we have gone from a pagan/christian tradition and 24 days of fasting then 12 days of feasting and revelling to the commercial horror of now :(

Well, Twitter’s on form, even if nothing else is! Pro Labour/anti Tory hashtags trending, and “Sir Boris” is well worth checking out (especially if you’re a Monty python fan) - wasn’t exactly what I expected Grin

It may be an offence to communicate any information obtained at postal vote opening sessions, including about votes cast, before a poll has closed. Anyone with information to suggest this has happened should report it immediately to the police.

Quite apart from the rights and wrongs of this, if she has reported that postal votes suggest it’s looking grim for Labour then counter-intuitively that’s helpful to Labour.... as one of the things the Tories fear is that their voters think it’s “in the bag”.

BestIsWest · 11/12/2019 17:04

We have a lovely wicker basket base from John Lewis for our tree.

Songsofexperience · 11/12/2019 17:05

WTAF? If this is real, then surely she has broken eloctoral law and BBC guidelines by reporting on this? I hope she gets sacked (not going to happen, I know). angry

Absolutely shocking. BBC cowardice at its best.

TheMShip · 11/12/2019 17:06

From @shirleymush on Twitter:

In retrospect I wonder if this might have been more significant than anyone realised at the time. BBC Trust found Kuenssberg’s reporting was misleading, BBC rejected the findings and abolished the Trust.

t.co/mIuK9Qep2R

I hadn't realized the history with Kuenssberg and bias went so far back.

Icantreachthepretzels · 11/12/2019 17:10

So with 88% of online tory ads being misleading, and official mouthpiece of the tory party Laura K announcing postal vote results before polls close - I'm wondering if the tories are so terrified of winning that they have decided to ensure completely that the election will have to be declared null and void and re run at a later date, by breaking as many electoral laws as they conceivably can.

yolofish · 11/12/2019 17:24

oh dear god pretzels I just... cant... I mean really do you think that's a thing? I will spontaneously combust.

ThatSeventiesLass · 11/12/2019 17:24

I have so many presents under my tree that a basket or dress would be wasted.

I really don't believe Johnson wants a majority now...his behaviour has been so outlandish and bizarre that I can't see what else he can be thinking.

ListeningQuietly · 11/12/2019 17:26

I encountered Zac Goldsmith last summer ...

"But you have to let me in, I am a speaker"
Sorry sir, no ticket, no entry
"Do you know who I am?"
Yes, a person without a Glastonbury Ticket
"Its at home"
They all say that

DGRossetti · 11/12/2019 17:28

On a pagan note Grin there's a beautiful moon up at the moment in the east.

Saw Venus twinkling at dusk on Monday too.

Tomorrows a full moon ... I wonder what William Lilly would have made of that Hmm

Stinkyeddie · 11/12/2019 17:28

It is indeed
