First off, comrade Hilda has been busy in the propaganda dept! Praise be to Hilda! The dear leader will appreciate and reward your efforts with a cushy job in the newly opened Ministry of Bullshit. ✊🥀

Specials board.

⭐️ Snacks.

•Salty Bar nuts
(we always have too many)

•Marrow crisps,
I know you all hate them, but we had a glut and needed to do something with them. 🤷🏻‍♀️😬

⭐️ Mains.

A festive choice of...

•’Properly Stuffed’ “Christmas voting” Turkey.

•Festive Glazed Gammons.

•Goose that laid the Gilded socialist egg.

•’Whigs’ in blankets.

•Sauce for the Goose and Sauce for the Gander

•Brussels’ sprouts.
Divisive, yet still popular in some quarters...

•Neeps and tatties.
Grown in Corbyn’s Communist plot and kindly gifted back to us by the SNP.

⭐️Festive Drinks.

•Rebecca’s long Baileys.
Seems nice enough, but can be vicious if you have too much.

•Corbyn’s Victory Gin.
State sanctioned by big brother.

•Bag in, artisan Earl Grey Cocktail.
A Boris election special.

•Red flag Rum.
for the singing socialists among us.

•Egg nog.
Gifted by Trump. Sticks in your throat a bit, but it’s polite to drink it and pretend to half enjoy it anyway.

•The #ClassicDmitri.
Shaken and stirred. A Russian Vodka based Cocktail, shrouded in mystery and intrigue. No one really knows how it came to exist, but all we know is, that it might have happened. Somewhere. And now it’s on the menu. Enjoy!

⭐️Desserts.

•Imported Panettone.
Get it fast, I’m reliably informed we will never ever have it again post Brexit.

•Traditional Christmas pudding.
have a good look for that old fashioned sixpence inside, we might need it when all the money runs out.

•Damson jam steamed pudding.
I’m told by the suppliers, that It’s like the infamous Mumsnet chicken, we can get eleventy billion servings from it and still have more for the freezer.

As always, welcome to all who pass through this place, but, as ever please observe the sign above the bar. If you can’t read it. It says...

DON’T BE A TWAT.

As may have been pointed out here before, but repeating it for winonah although I expect she's blown off elsewhere to sprinkle fairy dust you have to be wealthy or completely broke to think Corbynomics makes sense. Anyone in the middle needs a slightly more astringent perspective.

Thanks for the economic development piece from Dom/CapX. I so hope Peter Feldman is right in perceiving a fresh set of ideas and policies in the event of a Tory victory. They've not said much new this far and the old ideas are looking tired and threadbare. But I think the intention is to avoid frightening voters; stick to Brexit for now and see about innovating in 2020.

And of course, Trump has said very plainly that he has no designs on the NHS.

Mr Corbyn was asked about questions arising over whether Russian disinformation was behind Labour's 451-page unredacted report on trade talks.

And Laura "I could never be fwiends with a Tory" Pidcock insisted that the Russian disinformation story was a "massive distraction". Hmm

So, my best guess, is that when Magic Grandpa gets the same answer as everyone else has had, that will be sufficient then? Momentum will breathe a sigh of relief and back off?

I wish, Epic. I think I've related this story before but when William Hague was Foreign Secretary, Jezbollah would come to see him once a week and, over tea and biscuits, would demand that he order the Knesset to change policy on something or other (probably to do with Palestine). William Hague would patiently and laboriously explain that he could not "tell" any foreign government what to do. Jezza would nod understandingly, go away and return the following week...to demand the same thing all over again. It must have been like Groundhog Day but with different biscuits on the tea tray.

Evening - I'd like a small beer this evening if I may?

A dodgy ICM poll out today which shows the gap narrowing to 7% but overall the average according to the Guardian is still 12%. Really hope that it holds up for the next 9 days. So far Trump has been restrained but we are not out of the woods yet!

Dusty I agree we need a majority in order to get something (anything) done. I really hope the silent majority feels the same way.

A small beer 🍺 for you Twattage! 👋

The polls are unsettling. This country cannot withstand another hung parliament and more of the same nonsense/chaos in westminster for the next however many years. Some people seem to actively want it, which baffles me tbh.

Hi Epic yes they do - I don't understand how they can't see that we cannot get anything done and in the meantime the economy and other services are going to go down the shitter (if not already). The worst situation is still to be hanging in uncertainty.

And these people who say 'oh well Corbyn will be tempered by hung parliament / coalition so still fine to vote Labour even though I can't stand him' etc etc. FFS.

Dmitri wanted a wobble in the polls a week before, to motivate people to vote. From what I'm reading, any lead of 10 points and above is good. Anything between seven and ten is "squeaky bum time". However, the LibDems need to keep polling 13% or better.

Stasis suits the democracy deniers. The reasoning - as far as I can make out - seems to be that if Brexit (and everything else) is delayed for long enough, the doddery old racist blah blah Leavers will have shuffled off this mortal coil and been replaced by shiny new Remainers and we'll all embrace the EU again.

The problem is, the country is facing so many huge challenges that have been shoved to one side while the HoC negotiates with itself over Brexit.

Dmitri, I pray you are right.

This may steady your nerves a little (although a large gin would help too!)

Just this minute in from the Telegraph:
^
"The latest survey for Deltapoll makes for interesting reading. Of those 2017 Corbyn supporters who supported leave, 56 per cent intend to stick with the party but 23 per cent now plan to vote for the Tories. But when you look at Conservatives who voted remain, just 6 per cent intend to vote for Labour, compared to 63 per cent who plan to stick with the Tories and 31 per cent who plan to switch to the Lib Dems. ^

These figures suggest that Labour may only be increasing its majority in the remain seats it already holds, rather than winning more support in remain seats it doesn't – while haemorrhaging support in Labour leave areas."

Pretty much the point Howabout made upthread about the distribution of polling results and the clumping of results.

Evening all!

Is this right?
Labour made a fuss about Boris releasing a report on Russia, at the same time as Corbyn asked his friend Putin for a fake report on UK/USA trade discussions.
Their plan to release said document during Trumps visit went to pot when they needed a dead marrow to distract from Corbyns car crash interview.

Anyone remember Comical Ali during the Iraq war? Labours (Andy McDonald today) sounds just like him now.

▶ "I dont care what Trump or Boris say, America is going to dam well buy our hospitals whether they want them or not."
▶ "I dont care how many people Asda employ or that they are giving their workers a pay rise, they are an evil American company and when we get into power we will destroy them."
▶ "I dont care that the NHS is free at the point of use, Boris & Trump will make you pay £10,000 for cancer care."

Evening all a swift half please. The menu looks fab - I'm having my version of corned beef hash tonight. Been busy gathering boring data - just finished Eastern Europe - and just a bit wow at the population declines; it seems that FOM has had a marked negative effect on nearly all of the poorer E European countries - now that's a timebomb many in W Europe don't seem much bothered about.

Looks like Trump isn't messing it up - and things are going ok in GBDL (Get Brexit Done Land), tho I hardly dare say it....

Pint of real ale please, and a packet of soft pork scratchings.

Cheers Hate! I worked with various E European countries in the mid 2000s. All the people I worked with were young graduates from their country's top universities and spoke excellent English (and often other languages too). All of them wanted to move to the UK. Over the course of the next four years, practically all of them did. They took low-paid jobs at first, but the ones I've kept in touch with are now doing really well. From the UK's point of view that's great, we've got some bright young things that we haven't had to educate. But from Estonia/Latvia/Poland/Romania's point of view, they've lost those bright young things - and their future children - forever. I don't know why the EU never paid more attention to that. Unless they just see E Europe as a pool of cheap labour to be plundered for the West?

Ah, you've lost me now, Hate. I visited Butrint and Sarande once, a long time ago. Very hospitable people. The young woman who acted as our tour guide stood on the centre stone of the amphitheatre at Butrint and sang an Albanian folk song in the most beautiful crystal clear voice. A happy memory. Do you have family in Albania?

Report
HateIsNotGood · 03/12/2019 20:10

No I don't Lily - DF was fighting with the Partisans as a teenager during WW2 (the Nazis were clearing out the tribes and executing the Chiefs) and joined up with some SOE who got him out, so that he could start flying RAF Bombers when he was 17. Taken in by a Scots family, married their daughter (not my mum - she was later) and the rest is history.

DS and I used to go there for holidays, last time we were so close to Butrint, but the heat got him and we had to head for the Mountains.

Hope to retire there though, the language is difficile but the people seem to have the same sense of humour as us Brits - I put it down to 'Island' mentality - the UK is an Island Nation and Albania was pretty much that during Hoxha.

Wow, that's some family history, Hate. Total respect for your DF. I really liked Albania, or what I saw of it. If you do get to Butrint, well worth it.

Mr Lily complains that I've dragged him round every heap of ancient stones East of Giza and West of Chichen Itza. He may have a point. Grin
