First off, comrade Hilda has been busy in the propaganda dept! Praise be to Hilda! The dear leader will appreciate and reward your efforts with a cushy job in the newly opened Ministry of Bullshit. ✊🥀

Specials board.

⭐️ Snacks.

•Salty Bar nuts
(we always have too many)

•Marrow crisps,
I know you all hate them, but we had a glut and needed to do something with them. 🤷🏻‍♀️😬

⭐️ Mains.

A festive choice of...

•’Properly Stuffed’ “Christmas voting” Turkey.

•Festive Glazed Gammons.

•Goose that laid the Gilded socialist egg.

•’Whigs’ in blankets.

•Sauce for the Goose and Sauce for the Gander

•Brussels’ sprouts.
Divisive, yet still popular in some quarters...

•Neeps and tatties.
Grown in Corbyn’s Communist plot and kindly gifted back to us by the SNP.

⭐️Festive Drinks.

•Rebecca’s long Baileys.
Seems nice enough, but can be vicious if you have too much.

•Corbyn’s Victory Gin.
State sanctioned by big brother.

•Bag in, artisan Earl Grey Cocktail.
A Boris election special.

•Red flag Rum.
for the singing socialists among us.

•Egg nog.
Gifted by Trump. Sticks in your throat a bit, but it’s polite to drink it and pretend to half enjoy it anyway.

•The #ClassicDmitri.
Shaken and stirred. A Russian Vodka based Cocktail, shrouded in mystery and intrigue. No one really knows how it came to exist, but all we know is, that it might have happened. Somewhere. And now it’s on the menu. Enjoy!

⭐️Desserts.

•Imported Panettone.
Get it fast, I’m reliably informed we will never ever have it again post Brexit.

•Traditional Christmas pudding.
have a good look for that old fashioned sixpence inside, we might need it when all the money runs out.

•Damson jam steamed pudding.
I’m told by the suppliers, that It’s like the infamous Mumsnet chicken, we can get eleventy billion servings from it and still have more for the freezer.

As always, welcome to all who pass through this place, but, as ever please observe the sign above the bar. If you can’t read it. It says...

DON’T BE A TWAT.

I'm voting Tory for the first time.
I do care about "people in society sliding into poverty" so I could never vote for Corbyn, a man who openly admires and recommends the extreme socialist policies that recently created the starvation in Venezuela

Shhh... don’t say it out loud, or somewhere a momentum fairy will die. 🧚‍♀️ 😉 Brew

winonah the Labour Party is not promising to address any of the issues you raise with concrete promises. It started, supported and encouraged a lot of them as my pp points out.

Instead Labour are promising to use the public purse to subsidise everyone, including the already well off the most. The net result would be to exacerbate all the inequalities you rightly highlight.

Just to move the conversation on: for all the Labour noise and fury their NHS platform is basically exactly the same as the Tories.

Ta muchly for my tea. Not kicked in yet so I will have to clean bathrooms and hoover till I get it through my system.

BBC also proclaiming Edinburgh as the Scottish wonderkid - that is clearly nonsense. Grin

Winonah, I can only echo the admirable advice offered to you by another poster (and by happy coincidence, a regular on the Other Thread):

"winonah, why did you do that? All you do with that kind of insulting vitriol is discredit the valid point you’re making. It’s completely counterproductive."

Nice to have something we can agree on.

Yes, Epic. Extinction burst. Because insulting people, dismissing their views and accusing them of not caring is a great way of persuading them around to your point of view. That might be part of the reason why...the polls show no shift in the Leave vote after three years of vitriol. 😂

Hottap, I too hope for the day that what I would call a decent Labour Party will rise from the ashes of Corbynism/McDonnellism and do its proper job: standing up for the vulnerable and keeping government honest and decent by holding it to account and looking and acting like a credible government-in-waiting.

I just hope that the Labour Party has not been so deeply compromised that it is too wounded to recover.

Epic, yes, but he has a short attention span. Tiny little attention span.

I did read years ago that our brains can only hold on to seven thoughts at any one time. As soon as a new thought pops up, it dislodges one of the old thoughts. That's why old telephone numbers and old car registration numbers were seven digits long. I used to have to produce a daily criminal intelligence bulletin for wide and secure distribution to four neighbouring police services. It was strictly limited to seven items for the same reason.

How many thoughts can the Trumpian brain hold? Hmm

winonah what is Labour offering that will counter any of the points you’ve raised? And crucially, how will it be funded?

That’s aside from the fact that not all of the above is a bad thing - why shouldn’t tax credit be limited at 2 children?

Plenty of people who don’t qualify for tax credits simply can’t afford more than one child, let alone 2

Labour maintains that train companies are making extortionate profits off the backs of their customers, but that does not hold up to scrutiny either. As much as 98p in every £1 from fares goes back into running, maintaining, and investing in services. Across different train providers, the average level of profit is around 3-5%. Contrary to Labour’s overblown rhetoric, running a railway is not a cash cow. indeed, some lines are not profitable at all and are heavily subsidised by the taxpayer

Great analysis by CapX yet again. capx.co/labours-train-fare-gimmick-is-already-coming-off-the-rails/

Very reasonable questions, Bearbehind.

I don't think we'll get a response. I suspect winonah is a one-plop wonder. OPW for short.

What's the betting we'll be seeing more of those now there's only ten days to go Grin?

I'm going to have to watch that again! It pull no punches, does it? Agent Cob cuddled up on the sofa with his friends from Hamas and Hezbollah, among other things.

And I'm fairly sure I saw Baby Marrows in the almost-empty Corbyn shopping basket 😂🤔

Here is my own contribution to the cheery atmosphere in the Arms although it is strictly Sunday League by comparison.

Article on the #classicDom approach to the productivity puzzle and regional inequality. This is what Labour should have had in its manifesto.

I can't believe there are so many of you who seem to think it is ok to vote Tory, or support them in these threads. People (probably people who are worse off than you) are really suffering in our country.

And I can't believe that you can't believe that there are people who think & vote differently to you 🤷🏻‍♀️

Of course it's 'okay to vote Tory' - we don't live in a one party state 🤷🏻‍♀️

Why the assumption that Tory voters are well off?

Should Labour 'own' my vote because I'm in a low socioeconomic group?

Well said DustyD I can't believe that there are voters who think that party politics is the equivalent of goodies vs baddies, or Robin Hood vs the Sheriff of Nottingham. They must be very hard of thinking.

Have just read that article Howabout - interesting stuff

I'm actually feeling quite positive about a Tory govt as Cummings has some great ideas & BJ is a perfect frontman to push things forward & drive change with optimism.
A good team on implementers around him & there's def a lot of hope for a very different future going forward.

A hung parliament or a Corbyn minority will be the ruin of us

Comrade Corbyn, with his 2 Es at A-level, has never progressed beyond the sixth-form idea that "my enemy's enemy is my friend".

Haha - maybe he thinks it’s still the Soviet Union.

Comrade Corbyn, with his 2 Es at A-level,

He may have thought the Es stood for "Excellent" and has proceeded on that basis ever since.

Daily Fail article....

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7751171/Jeremy-Corbyn-vows-confront-Donald-Trump-Buckingham-Palace.html

From the article, apparently from Corbyn...“He said he would tell Mr Trump: ''Welcome to this country. I hope you'll understand how precious our national health service is, and in any future trade relationship with the USA, none of our public services are on the table, none of our public services are for sale and investor state protection is not acceptable to our government when we've won this election.'”

Excellent. So, my best guess, is that when Magic Grandpa gets the same answer as everyone else has had, that will be sufficient then? Momentum will breathe a sigh of relief and back off?

Finally. We can put it to bed! HmmGrin

Also from the article...

“On This Morning, Mr Corbyn was asked about questions arising over whether Russian disinformation was behind Labour's 451-page unredacted report on trade talks.

Repeatedly dodging the issue of whether Moscow might have been involved, he said: 'If the document is not accurate, then why is it, it's been out there all this time, no minister has claimed it's inaccurate.”
