First off, comrade Hilda has been busy in the propaganda dept! Praise be to Hilda! The dear leader will appreciate and reward your efforts with a cushy job in the newly opened Ministry of Bullshit. ✊🥀

Specials board.

⭐️ Snacks.

•Salty Bar nuts
(we always have too many)

•Marrow crisps,
I know you all hate them, but we had a glut and needed to do something with them. 🤷🏻‍♀️😬

⭐️ Mains.

A festive choice of...

•’Properly Stuffed’ “Christmas voting” Turkey.

•Festive Glazed Gammons.

•Goose that laid the Gilded socialist egg.

•’Whigs’ in blankets.

•Sauce for the Goose and Sauce for the Gander

•Brussels’ sprouts.
Divisive, yet still popular in some quarters...

•Neeps and tatties.
Grown in Corbyn’s Communist plot and kindly gifted back to us by the SNP.

⭐️Festive Drinks.

•Rebecca’s long Baileys.
Seems nice enough, but can be vicious if you have too much.

•Corbyn’s Victory Gin.
State sanctioned by big brother.

•Bag in, artisan Earl Grey Cocktail.
A Boris election special.

•Red flag Rum.
for the singing socialists among us.

•Egg nog.
Gifted by Trump. Sticks in your throat a bit, but it’s polite to drink it and pretend to half enjoy it anyway.

•The #ClassicDmitri.
Shaken and stirred. A Russian Vodka based Cocktail, shrouded in mystery and intrigue. No one really knows how it came to exist, but all we know is, that it might have happened. Somewhere. And now it’s on the menu. Enjoy!

⭐️Desserts.

•Imported Panettone.
Get it fast, I’m reliably informed we will never ever have it again post Brexit.

•Traditional Christmas pudding.
have a good look for that old fashioned sixpence inside, we might need it when all the money runs out.

•Damson jam steamed pudding.
I’m told by the suppliers, that It’s like the infamous Mumsnet chicken, we can get eleventy billion servings from it and still have more for the freezer.

As always, welcome to all who pass through this place, but, as ever please observe the sign above the bar. If you can’t read it. It says...

DON’T BE A TWAT.

Just for Clarity, I am not supporting a Trump win in the impeachment, just musing at possible outcomes...

Not sure how long the process takes but it's a fact of life that when a powerful figure is perceived to be vulnerable, longheld evidence suddenly comes to light because people are no longer afraid. The Donald has sacked too many powerful and influential people because they didn't tell him what he wanted to hear.

Look at Theresa May - fatally wounded by the last no-confidence vote (which she actually won, but with a lukewarm approval rating).

Closer to home, something like 70+ Labour activists and officials have come forward to offer evidence to the ECHR of anti-semitism in the party. This apparently includes a whistleblower whose evidence allegedly shows that Jezza's inner circle were poking their noses into the investigatory process.

SingingLily · 05/12/2019 14:34

Bill was impeached and won didn’t he?

Yes, impeachment - if memory serves me right - was passed by the House of Representatives but it failed in the Senate.

Totally agree, if he gets away with this I will be astonished!

Hello Brexit Arms regulars. Sorry to barge in. I've just re-registered on MN this morning, because I wanted to ask Comrade McDonnell a question. It's not letting me, probably because new users can't ask guests questions (understandably). This is what I wanted to say:

Hi John,
I was a teenager in the 70s when the Birmingham pub bombs killed 21 people and injured 180 more. I used to vote Labour, but how can I vote for a party whose chancellor said this:
"It's about time we started honouring those people involved in the armed struggle. It was the bombs and bullets and sacrifice made by the likes of Bobby Sands that brought Britain to the negotiating table. The peace we have now is due to the action of the IRA. Because of the bravery of the IRA and people like Bobby Sands, we now have a peace process."
You were not a naive student when you said this, John. You were in your 50s. So my question is, how could I possibly vote Labour next week when you and other like-minded people hold all the top positions?

If any of you would like to ask Comrade McDonnell something similar I would be interested to read his response.

I'm sorry to say I won't, Epic. I'd like to believe that truth would always "out" but this is politics and politicians we are talking about. Without googling it, I'm betting that Bill Clinton was sympatico with the Senate which is why the impeachment failed there, but not with the HoR, where it passed. Trump will draw upon similar dynamics, plus there will be too many either implicated or suspected of turning a blind eye. And Nancy Pelosi is not well-loved by all.

The only guarantee is that it will be messy and protracted.

SingingLily · 05/12/2019 14:46

Hi, Mixtap, and welcome to the Arms. That is a terrific question and I would have asked it for you if I hadn't already zipped in with a question about Trident. Someone may well take it up for you.

I hope you and yours were not affected by those terrible events. I had professional dealings with some of those alleged to have been involved and have my own thoughts as to their guilt or innocence.

SingingLily · 05/12/2019 14:54

Just in from the New York Times:

"Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the House of Representatives would begin drafting impeachment articles against President Trump, pushing ahead with a rapid timetable that could set the stage for a deeply partisan vote before Christmas."

So they are not hanging about, are they?

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 05/12/2019 14:56

Hi Mixtap!

Excellent question, I too have already used my allowance on the JMD thread, although it may be possible for someone else who hasn’t yet posted, to ask it on your behalf if willing?, alternatively, you could report your post here and ask if mumsnet would paste it in and ask for you?

Yep! 😬

Thanks Epic. I have reported my post as you suggested and asked MN to post my question.

Fingers crossed Mixtap! And a Brew while you wait 😉

The last comedy show I saw was Dave Gorman. We were absolutely weeping and holding our sides laughing.

Apart from that, and the now famous Rhod Gilbert toothbrush sketch, I can’t really think of any stand up comics tbh, so i might be clueless and the circuit might be full of this shit.

@SingingLily “ The man wouldn't recognise racism if it stared back at him in the mirror.” no, he’d take great delight in calling me a coconut.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 05/12/2019 15:21

“the circuit might be full of this shit.”

Overwhelmingly so at the moment sadly. Right at a time when people need the escape of good, genuinely funny comedy the most...

OP posts:
AutumnRose1 · 05/12/2019 15:24

@SingingLily. sorry Lily, I missed the obvious point that racism is staring at him in the mirror 😂

AutumnRose1 · 05/12/2019 15:26

And I’m easily pleased with comedy 😂

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 05/12/2019 15:31

I LOVE Lee Mack. He is so good in stand up and I wish he would do more!

SmileAutumn. I suspect he'd be the first to call out someone using that deplorable term without once reflecting (

If it's even handed light hearted political comedy you're after this is the Scot Squad Chief interviewing the Scottish Leaders last night. I actually think it is all far more illuminating than the gotcha politico journos are doing these days - AF Neil included.

www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000c5t1/scot-squad-the-chiefs-election-interviews

How to comply with EU regs on the standardisation of the police siren if we end up Remaining and whether keeping a giant truncheon just in case is justifiable.

Also refreshing to see Nicola against her Scottish counterparts of Jackson, Willie and Richard.

ajandjjmum · 05/12/2019 15:52

I too was a teenager in Birmingham mixtap when the bombs went off. We had to cancel a friend's birthday party the following night, as her parents weren't happy to take us into Birmingham!

I'll post the question, as it is perfectly genuine and heartfelt from me.

SingingLily · 05/12/2019 15:58

Bless you, ajandjjmum.

I was on the periphery of the Warrington bombing in 1993 when two children died.

It was Saturday - the day before Mother's Day - when dads and kids were shopping for cards and presents. Kids FGS.

IRA bastards.

Limer · 05/12/2019 16:55

John McD webchat - excellent Grin Some great questions already on there, I'll add one of my own.

Re comedians - I hated Ben Elton's stand-up when he delivered his anti-Thatcher rants.

SingingLily · 05/12/2019 17:07

My favourite comedian was less stand-up than sit-down - Dave Allen. (I was a toddler then, obviously Smile). My Irish Catholic mother thought he was going straight to hell and probably dragging me with him.

Nice question btw, Limer.

ajandjjmum · 05/12/2019 17:49

Hope JMcD has a nice evening - planning responses. Wine

Limer · 05/12/2019 17:56

I'm hoping that I'll be able to watch this live tomorrow, got a couple of other things going on but will try and work around this.

Can he see the questions in advance, or does he just come in and start answering them blind? I do like the webchat format, because everything's actually there in writing. It's much harder for him to get away with not answering the question (although I bet he'll do a fair bit of this!)
