Boris Johnson was empty chaired by C4 with a block of ice.

The Conservatives went mental and have threatened to look at C4 broadcast remit.

This is illiberal and anti democratic.

Journalists are supposed to hold power to account on behalf of the public. If MPs don't turn up then they can't be held to account.

They have a duty to show. It's not good enough to avoid scrutiny because it might make you look bad. That's the whole point.

The contempt with which Johnson holds the press and public is reprehensible and you should be concerned whatever your political alligence. It allows corruption to fester without consequence.

And to then threaten C4 because they do their job in line with their responsibility as a broadcaster is alarming.

This is how authoritarian dictators work.

What do you do with that level of delusion?

BackInTime · 02/12/2019 20:12

People surely are not that stupid.

I remember thinking the same about the US election and Trump.

thecatfromjapan · 02/12/2019 20:13

I mean, I read all the stuff people write: don't 'other' these people, don't belittle their beliefs, stand alongside them, find the common ground ... but that is just pure delusion - and there comes a point where you have to say, 'No. That's not true.'

Jason118 · 02/12/2019 20:13

What do you do with that level of delusion?

Harness it.

KeithPartridge · 02/12/2019 20:20

Because they trust Johnson. 😮😮😮😮.

Ffs...it's like a sea lion trusting a Great White. What is wrong with these people??😭😭😭

SwedishEdith · 02/12/2019 20:21

'No. That's not true.'

They won't believe you as they're not really interested.

HoneyandSpice · 02/12/2019 20:27

I was emailed at least twice a week to complete YouGov polls. Nothing for the last 3 weeks. They seem totally disintegrated in my actual political view. Despite the endless hours I've put in with their never ending banal shite

TiddleTaddleTat · 02/12/2019 20:30

I saw that focus group on C4 news. I found it depressing. They were just repeating the same lines from the right wing press really. I guess for the majority of people who aren't that into politics , it's not really that complicated. Just pick the leader you like (preferably 'strong' and 'you know where they stand') and then don't question it.
Most people just want things to be simple and we generally aren't good at questioning our own beliefs (that's humans, not just Tory voters...)

Sconio123 · 02/12/2019 20:31

Sadly the type of folk shown within that focus group are far beyond reasoning with. The only thing that will wake them from their delusion is a hard brexit.

And by that time we'll all be fucked (unless according to one focus group member, it's only the rich that suffer.....) Can't even end that with a 'lol' as it's so fucking depressing that people believe the bullshit..

MockersFactCheckMN · 02/12/2019 20:32

People surely are not that stupid.

Perhaps not, but they are disengaged, ignorant and uncurious.

Unhappy with the farmer, the chickens have decided to vote for the fox.

Does this help?

tobee · 02/12/2019 20:51

So, for (early) Christmas I am hoping for:-

1 picture of @prettybird garden which she tantalised us with upthread

1 picture of @yolofish chickens, after 14th December

Just a little reminder! Wink

yolofish · 02/12/2019 20:54

tobee when I get my new chooks you will see them! rescues, so depending on what type of farm they come from they could be quite sprightly and well-feathered, or they could be poor baldies with pale combs and weak legs... I always go for the poorly ones tbh.

frumpety · 02/12/2019 20:55

I noticed when I was in a residential home last week, that both the Conservative and Labour candidates were going in to talk to the residents, didn't see a poster for the Libdem candidate but will be back in this week to check Smile
Safe Conservative seat here , had loads of stuff from the libdems who are potentially a threat, one leaflet from Labour and no doorstep canvassers. Area voted remain. I would be nervous if I was the current incumbent. Large Conservative billboards in rural bits, town more Libdem , with a smattering of Labour.
Neither DH or I will be voting Conservative.

georgedawes · 02/12/2019 20:56

Genuinely, I don't see on the ground matching with what I see on the news. Here, in a super marginal, I have never seen so many Labour posters. Probably 75 for 1 Tory. Yet Yougov has it neck and neck.

ContinuityError · 02/12/2019 21:05

I saw that focus group on C4 news.

I saw that too. And reminded myself that 50% of voters are of below average intelligence.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 02/12/2019 21:07

had loads of stuff from the libdems who are potentially a threat

be careful with that in a lot of constituencies the LibDems claim of being second is based on the EU elections not the last general election allthough I'm sure you knew that frumpety tbh

tobee · 02/12/2019 21:11

👍 @yolofish

BaloneyInMySlacks · 02/12/2019 21:12

@dreichXmas

Thank you, but from memory that seems a much more 'public consumption' document than the one I was thinking of - or maybe I just read it more deeply than I just have done.

The two seemingly inconsistent goals of reducing American prices and stimulating innovation can be achieved only by a combined strategy to reduce artificially high prices at home while at the same time reducing free-riding abroad.

What they casually call free-riding is the important thing of course. It's what they consider the NHS is doing over drug prices. I'm sure the document I read was more detailed over it.

I'll keep looking. It was one of those eye-openers that I want to use to open someone's eyes.

ClashCityRocker · 02/12/2019 21:13

One good thing about the yougov poll is it seems to have provided some clarity on the tactical voting front. The TVers in my local 'for Europe' group seem to have reached a consensus after a rather robust few weeks of debate.

Tbh it probably won't make a difference in my constituency, but hopefully there are some where it will.

prettybird · 02/12/2019 21:18

Your wish is my command tobee Smile

The refugee camp would be a bit cold at the moment. Wink

beautiful prettybird I love gardens in winter when you can see their bones...

dreichXmas · 02/12/2019 21:36

@BaloneyInMySlacks

waysandmeans.house.gov/sites/democrats.waysandmeans.house.gov/files/documents/U.S.%20vs.%20International%20Prescription%20Drug%20Prices_0.pdf

This is an internally facing document for the USA but is worth a read.
It doesn't address trade to increase drug prices but it clearly highlights that issues with USA drug prices and the effectiveness of current UK drug buying.

Gribbie · 02/12/2019 21:42

The YouGov MRP was a week later in 2017 I believe. So as the polls show the gap closing it becomes less relevant.

Ellie56 · 02/12/2019 21:51

We could have a competition to see who has the most odious MP?

Well let's see - anybody in Uxbridge,
Rayleigh and Wickford (Mark Francois)
Witham (Priti Patel)
Esher and Walton (Dominic Raab)?
