Boris Johnson was empty chaired by C4 with a block of ice.

The Conservatives went mental and have threatened to look at C4 broadcast remit.

This is illiberal and anti democratic.

Journalists are supposed to hold power to account on behalf of the public. If MPs don't turn up then they can't be held to account.

They have a duty to show. It's not good enough to avoid scrutiny because it might make you look bad. That's the whole point.

The contempt with which Johnson holds the press and public is reprehensible and you should be concerned whatever your political alligence. It allows corruption to fester without consequence.

And to then threaten C4 because they do their job in line with their responsibility as a broadcaster is alarming.

This is how authoritarian dictators work.

Anyone seen the regionsl labour plans?

Piggywaspushed · 01/12/2019 19:16

hester they did try that on the BBC debate on Friday. Can't remember whether it was Sturgeon or Long Bailey that went for the jugular on that one. Rush I simmered, giggled and rolled his eyes.

Oakenbeach · 01/12/2019 19:30

From a personal point of view, I understand the squeeze. I’ve never considered voting Labour before. I think if Vince Cable hadn’t stepped down, I would still be voting LD. The tone of the party has really changed under Jo Swinson.

I agree... but even if that wasn’t the case, Labour are competitive in far more seats than the LDs, so far more people whose primary aim is to get rid of Tories, will vote Labour, even if they might prefer to vote LD.... Indeed, if the LDs were still doing well (and comparative to 2015 and 2017 they still are!) there’d be the risk of letting of the Tories in through the middle in many seats.

Hi y'all. Just curious if anyone here has worked out who they are voting for yet. If not, does anything any politico says or does between now and GE will change your voting decision?

I would imagine lots of people have worked out who they’re voting for!

I will be voting not-Conservative. I am voting for the party that is most likely to unseat the incumbent Tory MP.

CrunchyCarrot · 01/12/2019 20:08

Yep, me and DP have just voted (postal votes) and we've both voted Green. We are in a very safe Tory seat so it likely won't make any difference, but for me, climate issues pretty much trump everything, even Brexit. I've surprised myself because I was going to vote Labour but I'm just so fed up with the main parties.

PeninsulaPanic · 01/12/2019 20:09

@HateIsNotGood are you after one of these?

Biscuit
Stinkyeddie · 01/12/2019 20:09

Yep.
Voted tactically.

HateIsNotGood · 01/12/2019 20:18

Oooh Crunchy that's who I normally vote for. This time I'm voting tactically, not Green this time but I'm sure there will be another GE, sooner rather than later, after the 'brexit uncertainty' moves one way or another.

I really can't tell if posters here have made their decision already - it seems so much just an anti-BJ thread, which is fine by me; but it's not quite what it says on the tin.

But then I'm Albanian so I might not understand all the nuances.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 01/12/2019 20:23

HateIsNotGood , I shall be voting Labour because

1] the Labour candidate here seems a reasonable man and his dealings as a local councillor and as the town Mayor have been to the benefit of the people he represented -- including ones who didn't vote for him but needed his help
and
2] he is the only one of the available options who has much chance of unseating the Tory here, who is a prominent (founder) member of the ERG, and thus representative of what I most dislike about the new-look Tory party which chucks out anyone who dares to disagree with diktats from on high (unless it is a member of the ERG disagreeing, in which case May's deal gets voted down in order to be brought back in a nastier form and disguised as Johnson's, and the disagreeable disagreeing member of ERG suffers no penalty).

If I lived in a constituency in which the Liberal Democrat or the SNP or the Green or a small but perfectly formed dachshund had the best chance of unseating a prominent member of the ERG then that is how I would vote. But as it happens, it's Labour, here.

The only thing which would change my mind is that individual member of the ERG literally selling all he has and provably giving it to the poor, and even then I would probably vote against him because of all his bad behaviour in the last parliament and the one before.

Jason118 · 01/12/2019 20:24

I'm loath to vote (it's a clue to who I won't be voting for)Grin

prettybird · 01/12/2019 20:30

I'm happy to say that I'm voting SNP Grin. Technically I'm in a marginal (majority of only 2.5k), but the incumbent SNP MP should retain it Smile

Up until 2015 it had been an ultra-safe, "Monkey-in-red-rosette" Labour seat. The ousted Labour MP then led the Scottish Leave campaign (showing how much he was in tune with his constituency, which voted c70% Remain Hmm) and is now telling people to vote Conservative Shock (again, demonstrating how in touch he is Hmm).

tobee · 01/12/2019 20:37

What does it say on the tin? What tin?

Just when you think they’ve hit the depths ...

Peregrina · 01/12/2019 20:44

Will be voting LD and working hard to get our candidate re-elected. In a different constituency would vote for whoever had the best chance of getting the Tory out.

Peregrina · 01/12/2019 20:46

Just when you think they’ve hit the depths ...

Remind me, which party cut the police force down by 20,000?

Which party was in power when this man was convicted and then released?

Alsohuman · 01/12/2019 20:50

Precisely @Peregrina. Just as I think my disgust for them couldn’t be any more, they throw some more petrol on the blaze.

tobee · 01/12/2019 20:54

Looking at the replies it's gone down well.

Dusty01 · 01/12/2019 20:54

Are they being this awful on purpose just to get any kind of attention? Is this something Trump does also?

I don’t see how it is at all affective.

BigChocFrenzy · 01/12/2019 20:58

Tough enough to protect us from terrorists, but too chicken to face Andrew Neil (a Tory) ?

HateIsNotGood · 01/12/2019 21:07

PeninsulaPanic - not sure why you want to give me a biscuit, some other posters have said they have made their decisions and most have moved on to report on their SM feeds.

Maybe you don't like Albanians? Most people here think they know us, but they only know a small part of us - that is why my (UK naturalized) family have adopted very British names. Albania isn't just the name of a country, it is a people that live in other countries too.

As I say to my close friends - the mafia and earthquakes don't stop people going to Italy, so why don't they go to Albania too.

My thoughts are with the people of Durres.

prettybird · 01/12/2019 21:23

Nobody knew that you were (or claim to be) Albanian until you told us just now so it had no difference to the way that we responded to you. Confused

I really don't see its relevance. We have people who post on here from all over, some British, some English, some Scottish, some Welsh, some Irish, some Northern Irish, some EU, some RoW, some naturalised, some settled status, some not. It makes no difference. It is the quality of the contributions that matter Hmm

Piggywaspushed · 01/12/2019 21:27

That tweet is so appalling. I am ashamed. So embarrassed for them.
