Welcome to the Brexit Arms!

We are temporarily under new management but worry not, the ship is still steady as we sail on to 12 December. A quick recap of the events of the last week or two:

📋❓💙❤️💛⁉️💙‼️🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😀☹️😀☹️😧😱🙄😬🤥🤔😂🤣😂🔥💨⛈🌥🌦🌤☀️

Anyone of any political persuasion who is prepared to join in, eschew goadery, and enjoy a laugh, welcome. First drinks are on the house.

Afternoon all. Popping in for a quick lunchtime half.

I didn't watch the climate change debate but note the fall out has been all over twitter and certain part of the media. Just makes me wonder how much this reaches ordinary people who aren't political? When alot of people don't even care about climate change, does Bo Jo not turning up to a debate really matter? Just musing really.

I think Bo Jo not doing a A F Neil interview will hurt more, and I honestly think he should agree to it.

Heard Lab are releasing their regional manifestos today?! How many more manifestos and pledges are they doing? I believe there is some analysis that shorter manifestos do better with voters, so not sure of their approach. The problem they will get into is lots of promises but do voters believe they can deliver?

SingingLily · 29/11/2019 12:50

I hadn't heard about the regional manifestos, Holly, but it wouldn't surprise me. The LibDems are known for promising different things to voters in different parts of the country, so why not?

According to several newspapers, about 100 Labour candidates have avoided all mention of Jezza on their campaign literature because of the reaction they are getting on the doorsteps, even in supposedly safe Labour areas.

How can anyone stand there, sporting a red rosette, saying "Vote for me but don't worry, I don't want him in No. 10 either"? It defeats me.

Same process for the blue rosettes I should imagine - 'Look, I can;'t deny Johnson is a serial liar and philanderer and dodgy as a nine-pound note but..err.. at least he's not Corbyn.'

howabout · 29/11/2019 12:59

So much stuff is already devolved in Scotland it is already really difficult to work out which bits of manifestos apply - usually not much.
Regional manifestos just make it worse though cos you end up focused on bins or some such and miss the big picture.

Even the Scottish Conservatives have already produced a Scottish manifesto but you need to read it with the main one and they don't agree on everything - just confusing. Likewise Scottish Labour. LibDems and Greens.

Jonathan Bartlett looks to be doing a far better job on Green policy single handedly today than the debate last night.

Also big High 5 to Gisela Stuart. Star

SingingLily · 29/11/2019 13:00

Ah, Arse, good afternoon and welcome.

I think you missed the point of my post. No Conservative candidate has excluded all mention of the party leader in their campaign literature - as about 100 Labour candidates have.

You probably missed that bit, so happy to reprise.

What are you drinking?

Arse these are some of Boris' most appealing qualities to his target vote. We tried holier than thou naive sincerity with TM and look where that got us in domestic policy and EU negotiations.

SingingLily · 29/11/2019 13:05

Also big High 5 to Gisela Stuart.

Agree, Howabout. If the HoL wasn't so crowded, I'd be happy to see both her and Kate Hoey on the red benches. I emailed Gisela Stuart on the morning of 23 June 2016 to thank her for her work in helping to bring the Leave message out. She must have been up to her eyes in work but she emailed back ten minutes later with a happy reply about it being a great day for democracy.

You can throw in the serial philanderer bit as much as you like but I literally think no-one cares. JFK, Clinton, Mitterrand - none of them have their legacies judged by their extra curricular.

ArseDarkly · 29/11/2019 13:17

Fine. Compulsive liar? Racist? Tool of dodgy Russians?

ArseDarkly · 29/11/2019 13:18

Excellent interview with Bozo and Nick Ferrari on LBC this morning.

SingingLily · 29/11/2019 13:18

Fruit Loop, anyone?

OP posts:
howabout · 29/11/2019 13:22

Fond of Allsorts myself. I get DD1 to eat all the yucky aniseed ones for me.

SingingLily · 29/11/2019 13:24

Never considered Allsorts. Must have a word with the supplier. I'm sure they can lay their hands on some at a discounted price.

Even though you might think people aren't bothered about the philandering there's a difference in those others you mention that they had the pretence of a stable family life to hide behind.

One of the things Ferrari nailed him on was, during a call from a women shaming bozo for his disgusting targeting of single mother's in an old article, he asked why it was ok for Bozo to comment on other people's family life but not answer Q's about his own. He won't even answer how many kids he's got.

howabout · 29/11/2019 13:30

Should we discuss Corbyn's serial philandering then or the fact he abandoned his DC rather than compromise with their DM on choice of school?

ArseDarkly · 29/11/2019 13:32

No because apparently that stuff doesn't matter. Let's discuss Bozo's lying - about nurses, hospitals, brexit, brexit deals etc etc

AutumnRose1 · 29/11/2019 13:32

Just seen the Gisela Stuart statement.

Well done that woman!

SingingLily · 29/11/2019 13:36

You're right, Howabout. Wasn't he carrying on with Diane when he was married to his first wife? And didn't he divorce Wife No. 2 because she wanted to send their child to a decent grammar school instead of the local failing comprehensive? Even though he was privately-educated himself?

The truth is, I doubt many people's lives would stand up to minute scrutiny by the press. I often wonder if that's the reason why so many otherwise good people are deterred from standing. That, and the vilification they get from some on social media.

OP posts:
SingingLily · 29/11/2019 13:36

Gisela is impressive, isn't she? I have massive respect for that woman. She is what I would call decent Labour.

Funny you should say that Arse. PFI crippling NHS funding? Remain vs Remain Ref?

ArseDarkly · 29/11/2019 13:44

What remain v remain ref? think you mean PPI - terrible policy of the Blair government which Corbyn is totally opposed to.

SingingLily · 29/11/2019 13:47

think you mean PPI - terrible policy of the Blair government which Corbyn is totally opposed to.

PPI, Arse??? Payment Protection Insurance?

Good heavens, I didn't realise that Tony Blair was responsible for that costly fiasco. I thought it was the banks.

Every day a school day, eh, chuck?

OP posts:
howabout · 29/11/2019 13:52

PFI=Private finance initiative = using the private sector to leverage public investment
PPI = payment protection insurance = heads I win tails you lose bank loan insurance

How is Corbyn planning on funding his NHS rebuild and renationalisation at the same time as cutting public sector working hours and raising pay?

ArseDarkly · 29/11/2019 13:52

yes of course PFI Bazinga to you. Grin Right about the other part though - blair policy, totally different to corbyn's ideas.

So, in answer to my questions? Lying about nurses hospitals, denigrating single mothers, working class, burka-wearing women etc etc

SingingLily · 29/11/2019 13:54

Potato, potahto. NASA, NASDAQ. Scon, schohne. So confusing.
