I'm not promising to be the resident landlady, and I can't even hope to moderate the discussion or offer up great memes etc because I don't know how, but here's opening the next iteration....

First drink is on the house.

If TM had messianic qualities then we would have her BRINO and the dementia tax by now and we would all be thoroughly miserable and looking forward to 5 more years of Hammond misery guts. I'm glad she didn't. Blair and Iraq followed by Cameron and "it's for your own good" Austerity was bad enough.

Churchill never had messianic qualities which is why he got no thanks. Same with Ramsay MacDonald and Margaret Thatcher and now Boris. People voting for a Leader whose feet of clay they are well aware of is a far healthier state of affairs.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 26/11/2019 16:46

And for me, this proves it beyond all reasonable doubt! 😉😉😂

There's no principled EU scepticism here, I don't think. He is healthily sceptical about the EU but probably, maturely, recognises that we are so beneficially and thoroughly intertwined that 'leaving' is a great deal more problematic and now damaging than it would have been previously.
Being in a neutral position on Brexit is a really smart move for him.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 26/11/2019 16:50

😂 Let's hope Magic Grandpa really is toast after the election.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 26/11/2019 16:51

Hi fives Girl! ✋ 😂😂😂

howabout · 26/11/2019 16:58

You not seen his voting record Pan?

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 26/11/2019 16:58

sorry to share ‘the nige’ but. It seems prescient...

Nige link above, RE Corbyn and the EU.

howabout · 26/11/2019 17:02

Lovely piece of vintage JC before they got to him Epic Smile

Nige is another one lacking messianic status. Grin

Limer · 26/11/2019 17:05

Being in a neutral position on Brexit is a really smart move for him. - I disagree, I think it makes him look like an indecisive coward. I had far more respect for him in his old days as a professional activist, when he actually had views he was prepared to defend (as clearly displayed on Epic's twitter link above).

SingingLily · 26/11/2019 17:09

If you're running out of the door for sharing that article, Epic, I may have to follow you.

If anyone could explain the precise difference in intent and outcome between right wing totalitarianism and left wing totalitarianism, I’d be glad to hear it.

Both begin by changing the accepted definition of ordinary words. Both ruthlessly shut down debate. Both relentlessly promote identity politics as a tactic and when brave voices try to speak up, both use intimidation and threats to try and finish the job.

My old Economics teacher always maintained that in a capitalist system, mankind exploits mankind but in a Communist system, it’s the other way around.

He was a Dutch Canadian who escaped Occupied Holland and his firm view was that AH was so far to the left that he couldn’t help but bump into BM on his way in from the far right.

Extremism of either kind frightens me.

Limer, didn't know about Andrew Neil interviewing Jezbollah tonight at 7pm - thank you. There's been a hasty reshuffling of tonight's viewing chez nous.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 26/11/2019 17:09

I’m confused tbh, I keep hearing from supporters, that the best thing about the almighty JC, is that he is such a man of principle, honest and true to his beliefs.

Is that not the case then? Re; “no principled Euroscepticism here” is he not actually a man of principle at all? Or just happy to throw those honest principles under the brexit bus, for the sake of gaining power?

He has campaigned long and hard throughout his life to get out of the EU. Pardon me for being Hmm at this sudden and convenient ‘neutral’ stance of his.

SingingLily · 26/11/2019 17:11

I read that thread, Howabout. Cult is about right.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 26/11/2019 17:14

Thanks Lily! Phew! Thought you would all be sending out for my tin foil hat. 😂

I believe in the extremism horseshoe theory of left vs right. It has significant merit imo.

Parker231 · 26/11/2019 17:14

Tories and Labour are as bad as each other - the Muslim Council of Britain - which represents more than 500 mosques and charities - said the Tories appeared to have turned a "blind eye" to discrimination against followers of the faith.

The group renewed its criticism of the Tories as it backed an intervention from the Chief Rabbi over Labour's handling of anti-semitism.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 26/11/2019 17:15

How, that thread is nuts. 😂😂😂

Who needs friends like that? 😂

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 26/11/2019 17:18

“said the Tories appeared to have turned a "blind eye" to discrimination against followers of the faith.”

Aren’t they planning an internal investigation? Before the end of the year?

DustyDiamond · 26/11/2019 17:19

Anyone else going to watch Andrew Neil & Comrade Corbyn at 7pm?

Aaargh!!

I've a meeting at the school at 6 which is bound to overrun so will be behind everyone else watching it 😩😩😩

I've still to watch the last 15 mins of Nicola Sturgeon 😩

Speed reading this thread & the Tory one now before I have to go....!

I've not been posting much recently as v busy but have been keeping up & enjoying the various discussions 😍

🍷✊🌹

howabout · 26/11/2019 17:19

Epic I have "friends" like that. Sadly, I keep them all on mute for my own sanity and they wonder why I'm so stand offish.

Thinking about it the year I voted SNP in protest at Blair and Iraq they were the same people telling me how morally bankrupt I was.

SingingLily · 26/11/2019 17:21

I believe in the extremism horseshoe theory of left vs right. It has significant merit imo.

He likened it to a circle but it's the same idea and he urged us to abhor extremism of any kind. The class was supposed to be about Economics only but really, he was teaching us PPE 101.

He also told us never to apply for an endowment mortgage - straight repayment only - by the way. I was 15 at the time and thought ??? but years later, I remember everything he taught us. He was such a wise man.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 26/11/2019 17:24

A wise man indeed Singing!

howabout · 26/11/2019 17:27

Singing he sounds awesome. I was bemoaning the demise of the teaching of economics as a social science at the weekend. I have also never been an endowment mortgage fan. I didn't qualify for PPI compensation either as I was never daft enough to have it missold to me. Can be frustrating always rowing against the tide.
