I'm not promising to be the resident landlady, and I can't even hope to moderate the discussion or offer up great memes etc because I don't know how, but here's opening the next iteration....

First drink is on the house.

no to all of those.

and no to Johnson/Trump etc, waving goodbye to NHS and slimy, lying toads like Javid, Raab, Mogg, Morgan, Loathsome and the rest of the shower.

Parker231 · 26/11/2019 13:31

This is brilliant - Michael Gove can’t get the better of the interviewer.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 26/11/2019 13:36

From the lib dems.... “make every vote count”

Unless it’s a vote to leave the EU obvs, then it doesn’t count.

So just to summarise:

Vote Labour and get two referendums: the deal they don't know whether they will themselves back-or-Remain and IndyRef2.

Vote LibDem and get two referendums: a second one on Brexit (which they'll ignore anyway) and a second one on PR/AV.

Sigh. Does anyone seriously think this country needs another referendum to, you know, bring us all together?

BelleHathor · 26/11/2019 14:00

I thought the Lib Dems wanted to revoke ?

SingingLily · 26/11/2019 14:02

Actually, is anyone else on here disappearing under a mountain of LibDem fliers or is it just those of us in the West Country? I'm fed up of the avalanche of junk mail they generate around here.

For some reason, it's always addressed to Mr Lily, even though it's my name that appears first on the electoral roll. Then again, official LibDem policy struggles with the definition of "woman" so perhaps not that surprising.

SingingLily · 26/11/2019 14:05

I thought the Lib Dems wanted to revoke ?

Oops, you are quite right, Belle. The second referendum stance only held until the last week of October. Now it's revoke. No need to ask the people, uh uh, no way, nope.

Doubletrouble99 · 26/11/2019 14:18

Anyone see Boris at the launch of the Scottish Conservative and Unionist manifesto? He was brilliant. He had the right tone and really hit home the ideals of the patriotic Scot and how you can be proud to be Scottish and British at the same time.

Enb76 · 26/11/2019 14:23

Actually, is anyone else on here disappearing under a mountain of LibDem fliers or is it just those of us in the West Country?

I'm getting one at least every other day - 50 miles nor'east of London. It's a veritable paper mountain. I like our Lib Dem candidate, she's really nice and very environment aware but I cannot vote LD.

howabout · 26/11/2019 14:31

Mrs Lily you will be delighted to hear my DH has it right. Even the LibDems address their leaflets to Mrs Howabout. Just to add insult to injury Mr Howabout is actually Mr somethingelseentirely Grin

My LibDem leaflet comes complete with one of their legendary dodgy graphs. I live in a Con/Lab/SNP 3 way but apparently the LibDems are the ones to stop the SNP - their vote share has increased the most dontcha know. It is now 110% increase on F All.

Also LibDems are actually offering 3 Referendums and JC's head on a plate. They would likely need a coalition including the SNP and Labour if they are to be believed. However my central assumption that they would go for BJ's head on a plate and TM's Deal vs Remain stands.

SingingLily · 26/11/2019 14:43

GrinGrin The LibDem candidate for my area seems to have disappeared completely from the literature this week. Instead, it's Head Girl Jo and various other LibDems not relevant to where I live so clearly a universal non-specific pitch. Mind you, the same LibDem candidate here actually lost vote share in 2017 (this was a yellow seat until 2015) because for some reason, banging on about trans rights didn't resonate with the farming-and-Forces folk who live hereabouts. 🤷🏼‍♀️ It's a mystery,

The other mystery is our Labour candidate. Here we are, just over two weeks till polling day and I know nothing about her. No literature, no online presence, nada. She's a ghost candidate.

Bearbehind · 26/11/2019 14:45

It is also why it makes sense for arch Tory Remainers to vote Labour (why I pointed it out last night - Bear hasn't got back to me)

Sorry, not sure what I was supposed to get back on.

I’ve said before that I don’t ‘support’ the Tories as such but I think they are a better option than Labour

Aside from Labours utterly ridiculous giveaway manifesto, I don’t even agree with their stance on Brexit - the last thing we need is this dragging out even more.

The Tories wanted Brexit, they can get on an deliver it.

howabout · 26/11/2019 14:49

And so say all of us Bear Brew Sometimes I let cynicism get the better of me - product of living in SNP land.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 26/11/2019 15:44

Slight thread derail here, and at the risk of being histrionic and making false associations (not my intention, it’s merely for the perusement of others due to our discussions around hardline socialism and anti semitism) this is a fascinating article about Hitler, the traditional view of left vs right, his socialist views, under the radar links to Marxist theory, anti capitalism and anti semitic origins in hard socialism.

some of the associations of historical ideologies are remarkable, a touch chilling and food for thought for sure.

Fully expecting a ‘fgs they are not Nazis’ pile on. I’m not saying they are, Nor am I attempting to be controversial, I just think it warrants some interest and debate, especially when we often compare and contrast far left/far right in here.

Slightly nervous posting it, truth be told, because I don’t want people to think I’m nuts! 😂 but it’s not the first time I have come across the contradictions and studies regarding what we think we know about far left/far right and I think they bear some consideration.

Runs out the door... 😬👋😂

Limer · 26/11/2019 15:58

I wish the GE was tomorrow! Now all the manifestos are out, let's just get on with it.

Bookies' odds also move as a result of bets being placed - so they always come out at a profit.

I've had an email off Boris Johnson Grin - well, that's what the header said, but it's actually from a mailing list as a result of an NHS questionnaire I filled in a while ago.

Anyone else going to watch Andrew Neil & Comrade Corbyn at 7pm?

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 26/11/2019 16:02

“Anyone else going to watch Andrew Neil & Comrade Corbyn at 7pm?”

I wasn’t, because I didn’t know it was on, but I will now! Thanks!

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 26/11/2019 16:09

I would just like to add, that there are many counter arguments about the article I posted and I am not claiming it to be a closed case ‘fact’ at all. Just, as always, fascinating to look at things through a different lens.

Doubletrouble99 · 26/11/2019 16:11

Yes on half an hour earlier than last night, just to confuse everyone! What is it with the BBC and AN's programme schedules? Last week his Wednesday's show wasn't even listed but it was on!

Limer · 26/11/2019 16:17

Epic the thing that always strikes me about the similarities between far left & far right is that there's always a messianic leader in charge Grin

Plenty of rounds lined up on the bar for 7pm please LL! Wine Wine Wine

howabout · 26/11/2019 16:27

Speaking of messianic leaders the SNP twitterati are full throttle attack mode on wee Andrew for giving Nippy such a hard time. They're even going after BBC Reality Check as if it were CCHQ FactCheck.

I feel sorry for NS because she is all too aware of the pitfalls of cult status. She is a hostage of her mob in much the same way JC is hostage of Momentum. She is much more dangerous because she is a much better weapon.

Pan2 · 26/11/2019 16:31

Odd this. Corbyn is neither far left nor messianic. But the mythologizing continues.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 26/11/2019 16:35

“Odd this. Corbyn is neither far left nor messianic. But the mythologizing continues.”

Crowds of people chanting “Oh Jeremy Corbyn” and his continuous references and open praise for hard left regimes and leaders, and those in his party, would beg to differ. But, you are entitled to view this differently as ever.

howabout · 26/11/2019 16:37

Pan the issue is not the Leader but their ability to inspire a cult like following. Their beliefs are somewhat irrelevant if they are prepared to be manipulated to maintain their status.

I am disappointed that this is self-evidently the case with JC - exhibit A being betraying 40 years of principled EU scepticism.

The jury is out with Nicola because her principles are somewhat mercurial to start with.
