I'm not promising to be the resident landlady, and I can't even hope to moderate the discussion or offer up great memes etc because I don't know how, but here's opening the next iteration....

First drink is on the house.

Evening all - just popped in for a swift half. Lot's of interesting stuff 'spoken' here. My own observations include that I'm quite pleased the Tory Mani didn't try and do, nor false promise, much.

Good to see some new posters here too - and those returning before they go again to 'lands afar'.

The Arms is a good place - for the sane, long-thinking posters from both Camps and those inbetween. Hope to pop in again soon for a sesh

Limer · 25/11/2019 18:37

Evening folks, ooooh there's a Tories thread?

Heard the German song "Oh Tannenbaum" while I was out earlier - managed to stop myself from joining in with the words from The Red Flag. Grin

I'm off out again later but will try to catch up tomorrow!

HateIsNotGood · 25/11/2019 18:38

X-posted with Dusty who is also "popping in". We'll have to be careful (or watch like a cat) as soon the next description possibly cast upon us is that all we do is 'Pop'. :)

SingingLily · 25/11/2019 19:15

Well well well, the latest poll (published today) shows the Conservatives still on a 13 point lead. To put it into context, this is the exact stage in 2017 that Theresa May managed to slice and dice the same lead to just 2 points.

It's official. I'm nervous Smile

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 25/11/2019 19:22

“It's official. I'm nervous smile”

Me too Singing... 😬

Apparently Yougov have some all singing all dancing new poll coming on wednesday? Apparently it’s way more accurate? That should hopefully be interesting! 😬😱

BelleHathor · 25/11/2019 19:25

Evening all, loving the mischief on the AIBU thread😂😅. It's funny how you can almost always tell the posters who may be on "payroll", reminds me of all the share blue posters who bombarded forums during the 2016 US election for "Yas Queen" Hillary. Funnily enough never heard from them again after Trump won 😉🤔

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 25/11/2019 19:26

Evening comrade hate, evening comrade limer!

👋✊🌹🍻😉

Dapplegrey · 25/11/2019 19:29

Singing, was this just before the 1917 election, or the exit poll?
I’m getting nervous as I don’t think polls are very accurate anymore - maybe they never were - they didn’t get Trump right, or Brexit or the last election.

SingingLily · 25/11/2019 20:14

Evening, Dapple, Hate, Limer and Belle,

was this just before the 1917 election, or the exit poll?

Erm, my memory doesn't stretch back that far, Dapple Grin. Joking aside, I got the gist.

It is at the exact same stage that it was just before the 2017 snap election - two-and-a-half weeks before the big day and immediately after the Conservative manifesto was released. The one with fox hunting and the dementia tax in it, neither of which had been pitched before to focus groups, internal polling, the backbenches or, indeed, to the Cabinet - who were every bit as gobsmacked as the electorate. I gave my Conservative MP a hard time about it and she sent a game reply but it was clear she was as taken aback as I was.

Winterisnigh · 25/11/2019 20:14

Andrew n utterly skewered nicola.

His killer line. You keep saying the NHS needs to be protected from the trump but looking at these figures perhaps Scottish NHS needs to be protected from nicola sturgeon. ShockBlush

HateIsNotGood · 25/11/2019 20:16

I've spent most of the past 4 days 'switched off' from current media' - and happily so, because nothing anyone says or does will alter how I will vote in the next GE.

It's a relaxing state of mind to be in. I look on with amusement as the firm-remainers can't work out what to do, teasing apart every word said, posted or twitted in their attempt to find a way through their own uncertainty. Although I do feel sorry for them too, change can be difficult from wherever it comes.

If I fall asleep by the fire, could someone please nudge me awake and point me home. Or throw a blanket over me until I wake up and I'll find my own way home. Don't worry, I'll lock the door behind me and leave the key under the 'thing'.

SingingLily · 25/11/2019 20:19

loving the mischief on the AIBU thread

I've given up on it, Belle. It lost its comedy value when a certain poster decided to have a little sulk in the corner for being called out on her goady behaviour. Pity. For a while, shy Tories had a chance to say what they thought and there was some genuine debate going on. Then the pile-on started. Epic has more staying power than I did but she (and other regulars in the Arms) have had years more practice.

SingingLily · 25/11/2019 20:22

Andrew n utterly skewered nicola.

Missed that, Winter. He's worth every penny.

Stay comfy, Hate, no hurry in here. Shall we have a lock-in on GE night?

HateIsNotGood · 25/11/2019 20:29

Oh yes Lily that sounds good - I think a thread or two ago I promised to a shift in The Arms on GE night, even if I'm out back washing the glasses....

Night all, tempted though I am by you 'seductresses', us needs sleep.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 25/11/2019 20:31

“Epic has more staying power than I did but she (and other regulars in the Arms) have had years more practice.”

Not as much as you think, 😂 I’m losing patience with it too, I’m so over the Nasty Tory trope... and it doesn’t matter what you say, your rationale, your acceptance that they are not perfect, your own lived experiences under labour, brexit, the anti semitism etc... nothing, just nothing, seems to clear the fog of bullshit. It’s so boring, I only dip a toe in on those threads to offer solidarity to others who feel they can’t speak out, or state their case without a pile on. It’s always the same, “genuine question” “don’t you care about the poor” “you are voting for literal murderers” etc...

It’s just brexit 2.0. Heard it all before, at least 120,000 times... 😉😂

Bearbehind · 25/11/2019 20:34

What strikes me with that Tory thread is the defence is nothing about how good the opposition is - it’s just pile in on the Tories.

That’s why I’ve made the choice I have - it’s better than the alternative.

The hard core who are on the AIBU threads, and many of them are from the WM threads, can’t get it through their heads that the alternative needs to be a positive choice.

‘It’s not the Tories’ isn’t good enough for many of us

And Labour have completely taken the piss with their rainbows and unicorns for all manifesto.

BelleHathor · 25/11/2019 20:36

Only about half way through the thread but totally agree, certain posters remind me of the NPC meme m.youtube.com/watch?v=IN0NqJJ1YtE
😂😂

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 25/11/2019 20:39

Agreed Bear!, the comment that finally did it for me was “thread full of Tory propaganda”. Bonkers! It was just lots of people voting Tory, many reluctantly, giving their reasons! There was no bloody Propaganda! 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Bearbehind · 25/11/2019 20:45

I have to say I’ve been truly shocked by the depth of the cult like, slavish following for anything ‘not Tory’

Whilst simultaneously acknowledging Corbyn’s Labour is a travesty, and noone else stands a chance

It literally makes no sense

time4chocolate · 25/11/2019 21:58

It’s all gone a bit GE crazy.

I’m not getting the anything but Tory when the ’anything but’ will likely bankrupt the country and send us back 30/40 years. If you spend 4 years banging the economy/Brexit drum and then, having seen the Labour manifesto, you are gonna put a tick in the labour box then I would question whether using the economy was just a convenient excuse for some to beat leavers with because things didn’t go the way you wanted. Just my musings for today.

howabout · 25/11/2019 22:11

For some people Remain tops everything else though. I remember not so long ago in WM threads when people thought they could still get BRINO via TM and they were all happily voting Tory with a side order of LibDem for the 2nd Ref.

The same people holding their nose and voting "anything but Tory" Labour now are pinning all their hopes on holding Corbyn hostage as was done to TM.

Problem for me with Andrew Neil interview. By spending so long examining the ridiculousness of the Scotland rejoin post Indy position he gave Nippy acres of space to obliquely make the case for the imperative to STOP Brexit by voting SNP. If you were listening as one of the pro Brexit SNP faithful you were reassured that post Indy there would be no possibility of a swift return to the EU. Win / Win for NS.

On all the other stuff it gets discounted as domestic stuff for Holyrood elections.

On doing deals with Corbyn that suits pro SNP but also gives comfort to the closet LibDem and Tory voters voting Labour to get Remain. Him referencing the 1979 Tartan Tory incident further strengthens the case.

So the take away was vote SNP or Labour and get Labour with Corbyn unable to enact anything other than stopping Brexit and granting IndyRef2. Suddenly the Labour manifesto isn't that scary to a right of centre Remainer.

howabout · 25/11/2019 22:14

Bear now I'm starting to worry I may have persuaded you to change your mind. Wine

howabout · 25/11/2019 22:27

Wee bit of chill out before heading off to bed.

www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=37&v=cre0in5n-1E&feature=emb_logo

Had the Labour canvasser trying to hammer my door down just after DD3 went to bed - not voting for them on that basis alone.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 25/11/2019 23:57

Fuck me. That Aibu thread is full on crazy town now. I can’t believe that these are supposed to be the nice, caring folk. Maybe after some strong drugs and a frontal lobotomy? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤡🤪

Hollycatberry · 26/11/2019 09:15

Just caught up on the latest pages of that thread myself Epic. Truly gone to pot which is exactly what the momentum bots want.

Noticed the headlines today are focused on the Chief Rabbi's warning about Labour. Unfortunately if you look on twitter the bile is pouring out from the hard left against him and Jews in general. These people are warped in their thinking. I can't imagine other minority groups speaking out about racism and being told, no sorry you're wrong. If the Chief Rabbi has concerns, I trust what he says.
