I'm not promising to be the resident landlady, and I can't even hope to moderate the discussion or offer up great memes etc because I don't know how, but here's opening the next iteration....

First drink is on the house.

“Just finished watching Boris at the manifesto launch. I'm glad he clarified about the hospital parking fees. I took my Dad to and from hospital several times a week when he was being treated for cancer and I'm fairly sure I am now the lawful owner of the car park. It was £6 a time.”

Awful, at the worst possible time... when my Grandfather was dying in hospital, we faced the same, luckily our hospital validated the ticket daily, so we were refunded, due to the severity of his situation. So I am grateful for that.

Do we know when the parking charges were introduced? I remember back in 2000, I was on the maternity ward in a large southern counties hospital. My 8 day stay, cost my now husband, over £100 pounds, at a time when he was a full time degree student with a very low paid part time job. It meant that he could only visit me for half the time he wished to. That, was not refunded/refundable. I was young, so was he, we had zero support from the government despite trying and me being unable to work during most of my pregnancy (severe SPD) and we were barely scraping by with a new baby on the way. Labour government.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 24/11/2019 15:16

Tell a lie... they offered me £5 per week JSA, if I could come fortnightly to register my job searches (on the bus as husband needed the car to get to work and Uni). Despite me being pregnant and being on crutches, barely able to walk. Obviously I was a real catch for an employer in that state.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 24/11/2019 15:27

We later pulled ourselves out of that hardship, by working all the hours god sends, unpaid at times setting up a family business that became an employer. That same business has just gone bust this past week due in large part to the fuckery of Corbyn, Swinson, Cherry et al over Brexit. Our customers dropped up to 75% from March. They stopped unecessary spending due to the indecision around brexit, these are very wealthy customers. Other businesses in our industry and related industries are really struggling for the same reason too, it’s a wasteland out there. Many of these same customers have quietly expressed to us their desire to leave the country and take their money with them in the event of a Corbyn government so even if we had survived this, we would have been finished off by Corbyn anyway. We have staff. We are just one (otherwise successful) SME business, multipy this by thousands and you see where the country could end up.

But. Amazon innit.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 24/11/2019 15:32

Luckily for us, if we can’t find alternative employment and Corbyn somehow gets in, free Broadband innit? Merry Fucking Christmas! Grin

Before anyone comes along to tell me, well, you voted for this shitshow, so you deserve it?
Get. To. Fuck. I voted to brexit, I did not vote for the bullshit chaos that certain members of parliament merrily created because they could not accept that! And cynically in their attempt to use it as a tool to decimate capitalism (looking at you Jezbollah) and weaken the country.

DustyDiamond · 24/11/2019 15:36

Just popped in to catch up - I've been sleeping on & off most of the day & feeling very sorry for myself as I have a bad cough & v sore throat 😷😩

I swear it's something deadly serious but fear I may just be overblowing things, such is my melancholy 😳😂

I've not seen anything yet re the manifesto other than this thread (sleeping!) so will pop the news on in a bit - glad they kept it short & sweet though!

Good news re nurses bursaries - was daft getting rid of that in first place - moving in right direction with hospital parking (iirc that's a thing that Robert Halfon has campaigned for since the Osbourne days

In other news...!

Can't believe that Epic & Lily are channeling Xing & Hate 🙄🙄
Off to the gulag!!

Bellini - you do fit here!
Anyone who's not a twat fits in just fine 🍷
Like Epic said, I feel for you & the position you're in re voting - I'd be furious if Labour were the only pro Brexit party as I couldn't/wouldn't vote for them in their current form with Jezza & McDonnell.

Solidarity as always comrades!
✊🌹🚩🙏🕯

DustyDiamond · 24/11/2019 15:37

Also, can't believe you saw & spoke to Grieve Lily!! 😮😮😂

DustyDiamond · 24/11/2019 15:42

That same business has just gone bust this past week due in large part to the fuckery of Corbyn, Swinson, Cherry et al over Brexit.

😟
That's awful - so sorry 🍷

That's what we kept getting told though, repeatedly. It's uncertainty that kills businesses - especially smaller ones.
The MPs who used Brexit as nothing more than a political weapon to damage the govt are beneath contempt imo.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 24/11/2019 15:48

Thanks Dusty!

So much this...
“That's what we kept getting told though, repeatedly. It's uncertainty that kills businesses - especially smaller ones.

That IS exactly what killed us. And they were warned, but what do they care? Their studenty activism still gets a decent paycheck and expenses, they just carry on regardless. It’s in the little red playbook isn’t it? Kill capitalism by any means, weaken the power structure that supports it, take it by the throat when it’s on it’s knees, get in by any means, then ‘rebuild’ the country in your own ideological vision. Brexit fuckery is merely a means to an end to achieve the above.

howabout · 24/11/2019 15:52

Flowers Epic DH and I are in our 50s. Unfortunately multiple redundancy is very common among our cohort - doesn't feel any better to have group solidarity but makes Labour politics of envy very hard to stomach. Even know people being off shored to the EU "despite Brexit".

Completely agree about uncertainty of the last 3 years causing so much damage.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 24/11/2019 15:59

Thanks How. It’s just shit, I know people Mock Boris and his “get brexit done”, hell, I even mock his soundbites. But he’s so right, it needs to be gotten on with, the economy really cannot survive any more delays. It’s too late for us, but for the sake of others like us, we need economically sound and sensible policies. Not fairyland Communism. It would be a disaster for the UK on an historically unrivalled scale.

Business is not the enemy. It’s the engine and the beating heart of this country. It’s the employer, it’s the tax payer, it’s the innovator.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 24/11/2019 16:23

And where’s the landlady? A hot lemsip for Comrade Dusty please! SmileBrew

BelleHathor · 24/11/2019 16:29

So sorry Epic ☹Would also add most of the MSM to the pot, they seem to rub their hands with glee everytime there is an economic downturn. It was economics 101, confidence is the majority of the battle. They consistently talk down the economy and dilly dally with "getting Brexit done" 😡😡😡😡
On the plus side looks like self-id is out !

Winterisnigh · 24/11/2019 16:31

Yy epic.. Totally agree. Re business being the beating heart.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 24/11/2019 17:05

“On the plus side looks like self-id is out !”

Thank fuck for that, that was my second big policy issue after brexit!

SingingLily · 24/11/2019 17:30

Flaming Nora, Epic, no wonder you've been under strain recently. I'm so sorry. That's a real kicker when you've worked so hard to build it up from scratch. Sending you an unMumnetty hug. Plus a whisky and hot lemon for Dusty.

Belle, please tell me it's true - that self ID is out If it's true, that would be a game-changer for a lot of women. I've just combed through the manifesto but didn't pick up a reference to it so what have you heard?

BelleHathor · 24/11/2019 17:50

Same as you Lily just read through the manifesto and no mention so 🤞🤞 not 100% sure but hoping that Andrew Gilligan has had a word 😊

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 24/11/2019 18:01

Thanks Lily, that brought a 😢 to my eye! 😊

But you know what? We have our health and so do my kids, and for that I am very very grateful. Things could always be worse. (Especially under Corbz anyway! 😉😂✊)

Bearbehind · 24/11/2019 18:03

bellini we can be homeless outlaws taking refuge in the pub together as we’ve nowhere else to go 😂

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 24/11/2019 18:07

Haha Bear I’m sure the LL has plenty of stools and beverages available for the refugees!

XingMing · 24/11/2019 18:14

The landlady has had weekend visitors and is off to visit DMIL in the morning so will be AWOL for a bit longer. DMIL is 90 and doesn't have Internet.

The drinks are on the house this evening. Thanks to Lily for her stalwart bar tending.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 24/11/2019 18:21

Hi Comrade Xing! All is well, we will prop up the bar for you until your return! The takings are good, and the mood is largely positive! See you on your return 😉 🍻

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 24/11/2019 18:28

Gawd, you are all such a lovely bunch in here. I’m so glad the arms exists, despite the hate we get occasionally from some quarters. There really are some super posters here, from all sides of the debate xxx

Bearbehind · 24/11/2019 18:37

The other thread really is becoming quite toxic.

I’ve been hounded off it for daring to criticise Saint Jeremy and now it’s bellinis turn

They don’t seem to understand that you can’t just say Corbyn is a twat and I hate everything about the Tories because people have to make a choice.

I differ from bellini in that I don’t agree with spoiling your ballot paper so I’m voting for what I see as the least worst option

What the WM devotees fail to see is that Labour are not the least worst option for many people and that is largely the fault of Corbyn and his communist agenda.

bellinisurge · 24/11/2019 18:44

It's hilarious how Bear and I often end up in disgruntled agreement. Grin

Bearbehind · 24/11/2019 18:45

It’s a sad sign of the times bellini 😂
