Brexit

What is going to be better on the ‘other side’?

I’ve long since accepted that Brexit is happening.

But what is going to be better once we’ve left?

What is the everyday Joe going to notice that improves their life?

Maybe Nigel Frog will be on the tv and radio less?

ListeningQuietly · 13/11/2019 20:41

Just ‘not being in the EU anymore’ is enough to make most of the 17 million happy.
And how will they notice the difference on a day to day basis ?
what will have changed in their daily lives
that could not have happened while in the EU ?

JPharm · 13/11/2019 20:46

It’s very specific to my job but I won’t have to comply with the falsified medicines directive which seems like a massive ballache!!

This is offset though by the even bigger ballache of telling patients I can’t their medicines in at all.

So nothing.

JPharm · 13/11/2019 20:46

Get their*

JPharm · 13/11/2019 20:54

Just ‘not being in the EU anymore’ is enough to make most of the 17 million happy.

This is it isn’t it? ‘Leave at any cost’ seems to be the mantra now. People didn’t even care about the EU before all this, many would have happily got on with their lives without giving it a second thought.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 13/11/2019 20:57

The only possible benefit - that it's put an end to Farage.

Sadly, I doubt it.

Cheaper olives apparently.

How? They come from the EU.

F* all will be better, at least for 98% of us.

MeganBacon · 13/11/2019 21:14

There's no point trying to compare future life outside EU with previous life inside EU - the time for that question was three years ago. The only realistic choice now is between future life outside EU and future life having revoked from the position we are currently in. That future brings with it a widespread breakdown of belief in our political system. So we should be asking whether the avoidance of breakdown is worth being out for.

DorisDaysDadsDogsDead · 13/11/2019 21:15

"not being in the EU anymore’ is enough to make most of the 17 million happy."

Except they won't be when they find their Prosecco and BMWs and cheese and tomatoes and etc. etc. etc. all cost considerably more. And then they find it's not so easy to go on their holidays, and etc. etc. etc...

They're not going to be happy. But it will be too late. And they will find someone else to blame rather than themselves for their idiocy.

Moomin8 · 13/11/2019 21:16

It's going to be better, many years after we're all dead in the ground. Possibly. Hmm

ListeningQuietly · 13/11/2019 21:17

There's no point trying to compare future life outside EU with previous life inside EU
So how will you know if it was all worth it ?
If you were told tomorrow that Brexit had happened, how would you know if it actually had ?

Bearbehind · 13/11/2019 21:19

That future brings with it a widespread breakdown of belief in our political system.

I understand your point but the problem is our political system has been driven to breaking point by something that actual has no tangible benefits anyway

I don’t doubt it has to happen, it’s just a tragedy that it’s going to be so damaging, and just so those who want it get to say we’re no longer in the EU.

"That future brings with it a widespread breakdown of belief in our political system. So we should be asking whether the avoidance of breakdown is worth being out for."

The very fact that the Leave campaign broke the law, has broken belief in the system. The fact that Boris is silencing the report that will undoubtedly show Russian interference in the referendum (and the following election) is breaking belief in the system. All these people who had never taken and interest in the EU, or, indeed, politics, were conned into voting on the basis of lies has broken the system. This is definitely not a good reason for proceeding with what has been proven to be a scammed vote.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 13/11/2019 22:03

Groundhog day. You are asking a straw-man question. What is 'better' is subjective. Nothing will ever be better for you.

If you really want answers then you should ask, "what will be different?".

Its like a child who loves bon bons from their local sweet shop. They are taken into a different sweet shop that doesn't sell bon bons and immediately has a tantrum. "I hate this shop, its crap, its doesn't sell ANY good sweets. I hate everything, my parents hate me..... cry, scream, cry."

Mistigri · 13/11/2019 22:23

Of course things will be different. Things will change for the worse. Which is the point of this thread.

DorisDaysDadsDogsDead · 13/11/2019 22:32

Even BrainDeadBrexitGirl isn't trying to show anything that will be better.

Yet these are the people desperately trying to claim that it's worth ruining the country for.

It's a cult. A bizarre cult.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 13/11/2019 22:39

It's a cult. A bizarre cult

I know, wanting to live in an independent country is definitely a cult. Being told what to do by un-elected dictators leaders and paying them for the privilege, is definitely NOT a cult.

TheCatsPjammas · 13/11/2019 23:06

Ok walking dead, tell me what benefit you expect on ‘ independence’ day ?

I’m genuinely interested to hear what you think will be positive. We are all going to have to live together so no point being disparaging about people who aren’t as thrilled with the prospect of the post Brexit landscape.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 13/11/2019 23:21

TheCatsPjammas
As I explained in a previous post that is subjective, a remainer will never find any benefits in escaping the EU.

For a Brexiteer the massive positives will be that we are out of the EU. How can you not get that?

I think the big cause of animosity between leavers and remainers has been the delay of parliament implementing the referendum. Had this happened the day after the vote we would all have accepted it, moved on and be working together to make Brexit a positive result. The sooner it happens the better for the UK.

ssd · 13/11/2019 23:23

All the old gimmers in engerland who think they UK will go back to its glory days will be happy.

DontLookBackIntoTheSun · 13/11/2019 23:29

we would all have accepted it, moved on and be working together to make Brexit a positive result.

I will never accept it, I will never move on, and I will never work together with Quitters

Walkingdeadfangirl · 13/11/2019 23:37

I will never move on, and I will never work together with Quitters

That is exactly my point.

AMRAFP · 13/11/2019 23:38

God this dumb bullshit about "moving on" makes me sick.
The negative consequences will last for decades. Just ask JRM.

HollowTalk · 13/11/2019 23:42

For a Brexiteer the massive positives will be that we are out of the EU. How can you not get that?

But that's what the OP is asking. Can you explain how it will be better, being out of Europe?

DontLookBackIntoTheSun · 13/11/2019 23:54

But Walkingdeadfangirl, my point is that timing makes no difference - I am just as angry now about Brexit as I was in June 2016

DorisDaysDadsDogsDead · 14/11/2019 00:16

Oh dear. "I know, wanting to live in an independent country is definitely a cult. Being told what to do by un-elected dictators leaders and paying them for the privilege"

Yes, because we were obviously not an independent country before (Really, are you that stupid?). Whereas afterwards we'll be in hoc to Trump and Putin.

And I assume that you voted in the European elections?

This stuff is so basic that you'd have to be thoroughly idiotic to keep quoting it!
