We got so feisty (Confused?) on the Westminsterenders thread.,...

OP posts:
tobee · 03/11/2019 17:44

We got to 1k posts without realising

OP posts:
tobee · 03/11/2019 17:46

Anyway, as I was saying, I was talking about how the nhs is regarded as opposed how state education is regarded.

Generally my fault as ever Blush

I just wish people would be a bit more tolerant of others differing views.

It might might life a bit easier

I don’t think there are many people who really want to make anyone’s life harder

tobee · 03/11/2019 17:48

But Bear you probably think you come across as tolerant. Just as lot of other posters think of themselves. Maybe it's just the fault of posting text.

OP posts:
tobee · 03/11/2019 17:49

Maybe it'll just be a dialogue between me and Bear!

While the abolition of private schools may be the purest of ideologies @Bearbehind, I can’t see it ever happening. I can see that removing their tax breaks and charitable status is entirely realistic and suspect that’s about as far as it will go.

Despite the obsession with the fate of private education on this thread, it affects so few people it’s not particularly relevant.

Bearbehind · 03/11/2019 17:49

I know I’m not tolerant, but if you read my posts, you’ll see I’m generally intorelant of others intolerance! 😂

placemats · 03/11/2019 17:50

Bear you are not tolerant of other people's views though. I'm not sure you understand this.

Alsohuman · 03/11/2019 17:50

I tried to post that on the now full Westminenders thread!

MockersthefeMANist · 03/11/2019 17:50

I think we should confine ourselves here to titles for the new Offisshul thread:

Westminsterenders: I Wanna Be Elected!!!
Westminsterenders: Gunpowder, Treason and Plot
Westminsterenders: Winter Drawers On

etc

Bearbehind · 03/11/2019 17:51

I can see that removing their tax breaks and charitable status is entirely realistic and suspect that’s about as far as it will go.

Totally agree - so why piss around with the other element

I’ve said before, it doesn’t affect me in the slightest but it does alienate me from Labour even more because they waste time talking about shite like this which is impractical and will never happen but they think it’s a headline grabber

dreichsky · 03/11/2019 17:52

I don't get the charitable status thing.
I would imagine that removing that would be pretty uncontroversial.
It is very different to shutting schools down.
My dc have only gone to state schools in the UK but we live in an area with good schools so don't have difficult choices to make.

tobee · 03/11/2019 17:53

I think you're defensive Bear. And i find your posts (sometimes) quite confusing and a haranguing. So I'm put off trying to unpick them.

OP posts:
tobee · 03/11/2019 17:54

I wish we could nicely segue this thread onto the next Westminsterenders thread. But then again I feel fraudulent starting one up! Lol!

OP posts:
Bearbehind · 03/11/2019 17:55

Bear you are not tolerant of other people's views though. I'm not sure you understand this.

As above, I know I was previously hugely intolerant of Leavers but now I’m just intolerant of those who outright dismiss their opinions and those who hate the Tories whilst refusing to understand many people don’t feel there’s a viable alternative.

placemats · 03/11/2019 17:57

I've put up a new thread. This is a democracy after all. Please feel free to ignore it. I wont sulk or consider that I'm being especially targeted.

tobee · 03/11/2019 17:58

Lol @placemats

OP posts:
prettybird · 03/11/2019 18:10

I liked the Westminsterenders: Gunpowder, Treason and Plot suggestion for a new thread title from Mockers on the interim thread. Nice and topical - but there again, the thread may well have filled up by tomorrow so it can still be used on the appropriate day Grin

prettybird · 03/11/2019 18:10

Wrong thread Grin

BackInTime · 03/11/2019 18:39

Re charitable status thing for private schools - how would this apply if state funded academies are also charities Hmm

ListeningQuietly · 03/11/2019 19:35

Private schools :
as I repeatedly explained to Cendrillon earlier
a vote at the conference will not turn into a manifesto entry
because of special schools
so just give up on it will you Grin

Bearbehind · 03/11/2019 19:43

So what was the point in voting on it at the conference?

Genuine question?

ListeningQuietly · 03/11/2019 20:02

Why not?

Same as the ideas of the Britannia Unchained people

It was an idea, but until its checked and tested it does not become policy

and until its in the manifesto its no more valid than a bendy banana

Bearbehind · 03/11/2019 20:09

But why give it sufficient air time to vote on it in the conference then?

ListeningQuietly · 03/11/2019 20:14

Labour have voted to get rid of Nuclear weapons most years
which has not happened

give over on a non issue
