But why give it sufficient air time to vote on it in the conference then?

Because you over promise then your opponents are relieved when you tone it down and accept what you wanted in the first place. Classic tactic.

Labour have voted to get rid of Nuclear weapons most years which has not happened

Ah, that makes it alright then

Pointless politics 🤔

Most politics is pointless. Take Brexit, for example.

Maybe this could be used as a Recovery thread Tobee? A place to retreat to when things get too much in Westminstenders Smile

Resolutions at conferences are aspirational: they're what delegates would like - not what they expect to happen immediately.

A manifesto will (or should Wink) contain more practical (and costed) policies - which will reflect but not necessarily exactly mirror some not all party resolutions.

And that's even before a manifesto hits the reality of governing and changing circumstances (called the Real World) Wink

Don't get me started on the manifesto of a minority government. Effectively, the electorate hasn't given its approval or it would have elected a majority government , so looking again at what is realistic and/or practical is - or would be if we had grownup politics Hmm - simple common sense Confused

All kinds of policies are agreed on during conference season. They don't necessarily make it through to the manifestos. Conferences are just a sounding board and knees-up for the party faithful.

This year, the Conservatives appeared to agree a policy of compulsory vaccination for school children. It fell through in about 24 hours.

That's why you wait for the manifestos (which have been carefully put together and agreed), read through what the parties are actually proposing to do and vote on that basis.
