It looks like a December General Election is on.

The EU have officially extended A50 until 31st January. We have to name an EU Commissioner though.

All that seems left to do is decide between the 9th and 12th December.

The difference between the two is about whether there is any possibility that the WAB can be passed before Parliament dissolves.

A pre-brexit GE is thought to favour the LDs at the expense of Labour and the Conservatives. What the Brexit Party decide to do and where they decide to stand will also be crucial.

What time are the riots again?

mummmy2017 · 31/10/2019 09:50

Hoooo

Have you reported them mummy?

Didn't need to, all have been complaining about reassessment, and it seems they are losing benefits, so it does work.
If your so ill you can't work you should always be helped.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 31/10/2019 09:52

If your so ill you can't work you should always be helped.

Would my GP or Psychiatrist be better placed to make that decision than a physiotherapist in a porta-cabin?

Tanith · 31/10/2019 09:52

" I would have voted to David, but not Ed."

Don't you know who is the Leader of the Opposition, Mummmy2017?

BigChocFrenzy · 31/10/2019 09:53

About 80% of people have their benefits restored on appeal,
because the initial assessments are carried out by ignorant people who have targets to eliminate disabled claimants

placemats · 31/10/2019 09:54

Interesting tweet regarding the dissatisfaction of Brexit voters.

mummmy2017 · 31/10/2019 09:55

I honestly don't know how?
Labour scares me.
Liberals are a wasted vote.
Greens same as they never win seats.
Brexit party, if your going to split the vote just vote Tory and get us out.
Tory forced to vote them in as better them than a hung Parliament.
We all know what a hung Parliament is like.

placemats · 31/10/2019 09:55

I agree Pretty

I always thank them for their time and encourage them to vote.

QuentinWinters · 31/10/2019 09:56

A friend had a family member who was so ill they couldn't work.
When they were switched from incapacity benefit to UC they died, because they were too ill to leave their house, the switch didnt go smoothly and they had no income.

UC might be getting the "laggers" to work but it's also killing those who genuinely need help.

Maybe you think genuinely disabled people are acceptable collateral damage so you don't have to pay a wee bit more in tax mummy

How much is Brexit costing again?

Hoooo · 31/10/2019 09:56

Interesting thread on aibu about care home fees.

Imo THIS is the issue that will haunt the next two governments once brexshit is decided.

BercowsPoliticalPumpkin · 31/10/2019 09:56

We used to be Lib Dem here then that sycophant Wragg won. He's pissed off a lot of people locally and the Lib Dems here actually do things to improve the community so it might swing back. Hopefully.

^"About 80% of people have their benefits restored on appeal,

When I worked for a telecoms/telephony firm, some of the sales team used to forge signatures for direct debits and sign up homes that had not been released to sales because they were on bonuses.

They didn't care if it all fell through at a later date; they'd had their bonuses by then. Nice little scam until the company tumbled it and sacked them.
It's never a good idea to offer bonuses for this type of thing and it's downright immoral when people's lives are affected.

BigChocFrenzy · 31/10/2019 09:57

There's no point into getting into an auction with the Tories as to who can cut the most benefits

Noone whose priority is cutting benefits would ever vote for anyone but the Tories or maybe BXP

JustAnotherPoster00 · 31/10/2019 10:00

When they were switched from incapacity benefit to UC they died, because they were too ill to leave their house, the switch didnt go smoothly and they had no income.

Some of them were incorrectly advised to do so according to some evidence to the work and pensions select committee

Lewis Goodall@lewis_goodall

Or to put it another way.

216 days since Brexit Day 1
202 days since Brexit Day 2
Today is Brexit Day 3

BigChocFrenzy · 31/10/2019 10:02

Are there records kept on how many people have died after their benefits were cut ?

cloudydaysinautumn · 31/10/2019 10:02

Labour scares me.

Why? What about Labour/Labour party policies scares you?

JustAnotherPoster00 · 31/10/2019 10:05

Are there records kept on how many people have died after their benefits were cut ?

The DWP arent being very forthcoming with all the evidence theyve been asked for in FOI requests by John Pring (He has a website called Disability News Service)

mummmy2017 · 31/10/2019 10:05

That should be Corbyn scares me.
He says something, then says no you got that wrong I mean X. Then a day later no, I meant Y.
Then if someone leans on him ,Z
He can't control his party, and you can't get him out.

TheOnlyMrsW · 31/10/2019 10:06

Just read the article about the bedroom tax and the one from last night about the food bank book in tears, I don't post very often but rely on these threads to attempt an understanding of more than is in the headlines. I'm in a Tory leave-voting seat with a fairly slim majority (just over 3,000) and he's voted with the government every single time. I'm livid that things have got to this point and determined to do everything I can to push a change however small. Thanks to everyone on here for (mostly) showing a balanced view of the landscapes.

cloudydaysinautumn · 31/10/2019 10:09

Thanks mummy2017. You see Corbyn as unreliable and a poor leader?
What do you think would happen if the election produced a Labour majority and he was Prime Minister?

BigChocFrenzy · 31/10/2019 10:09

John Peet@JohnGPeet

A party that in quick succession loses Amber Rudd, Nicky Morgan, Ken Clarke, David Lidington, Philip Hammond, Nick Boles, Jo Johnson and Dominic Grieve
has serious thinking to do about its future - if it has one

Michael Reid@michaelreid52

It has a future,
but seemingly as a national-populist party that has little to do with its 300-year tradition

Mummmy Being disabled is measured on a scale. There are three bands for disablement and this has been in force for decades. Many people have a hidden disability, such as Autism, though once you chat to them, you immediately twig. My son won his appeal. I can't for the life of me understand why he was denied it in the first place.

BigChocFrenzy · 31/10/2019 10:11

Sarah Wollaston MP@sarahwollaston

So many women from across the political spectrum are now being hounded out of politics.

I used to hold regular open public meetings but, like many MPs, I’m advised not to advertise where I will be in advance.

That has in effect shut them down.
