Brexit

GE is on! Remainers how will you vote?

Just that really! The General Election is on, either 11th Dec or a few days before but it's going to happen now that Labour have agreed. Tactical voting websites are being prepared as we speak.

If you are a remainer, who will you vote for?

(And if any leavers lurk here, will you vote for Tories or Brexit party?)

breaking news...a democratic election is not the same as the referendum. If, when the results are announced of this election and labour/lib dems won, I wouldn't expect us to disregard the result and hold another without them gaining power.

How long is the mandate for the referendum? It's already been nearly three and a half years. The maximum gap between General Elections is five years and recently they seem to have been held every two years.

ArabellaDoreenFig · 30/10/2019 07:41

Labour have confirmed that they will pass self ID into law, which makes all sex based rights meaningless. This will directly negatively affect all women, but it will be poor working class women who suffer most so I don’t see how Labour are the party for the poor anymore.

And I have had numerous discussions on this board over the years about the fact I’m from a wc background and have seen Labour move away from the people it’s supposed to represent, i am typically a floating voter and not a die hard Tory by any means, but once you start understanding the depth of misogyny in the current Labour Party you wouldnt vote for them!

DogAndCatPerson · 30/10/2019 07:42

Same as @Redcrayons.

Life long labour supporting remainder with no idea how to vote in Dec. I’ll be watching the tactical sites keenly. It’s all such a mess Angry

milliefiori · 30/10/2019 07:42

@katiegoestoaldi - rather than spoil your ballot, could you not at least vote Green or LibDem which imo is by far the most fair left wing party? More to the centre but without the misogyny and anti-semitism of the old school macho ethos that'sprevalent in Labour right now.

DogAndCatPerson · 30/10/2019 07:43

The self ID policy has me seriously walking away from Labour.

MoonriseKingdom · 30/10/2019 07:50

Labour. I’m not a fan of JC but we have a good local MP. It’s always been a safe Labour seat but it’s a strongly leave area so unfortunately many will vote Brexit Party.
My DH is a long term Lib Dem voter but he may vote Labour as we don’t want our MP to lose his seat.

ZenNudist · 30/10/2019 07:53

Lib dem

HPFA · 30/10/2019 08:14

My DH is a long term Lib Dem voter but he may vote Labour as we don’t want our MP to lose his seat.

Good on him. Johnson wants to take this country in a very seriously bad direction, stopping him is the most important thing.

Violetparis · 30/10/2019 08:19

Will be voting Labour, my constituency is a Tory target (to take from Labour) so my vote really counts.

HPFA · 30/10/2019 08:21

I wonder if people are getting quite how bad the Johnson Deal is. If the negotiations for the future relationship are based on it then it's quite possible the EU will either refuse an FTA or it will be so limited as to cause serious damage to our industry and farming. And it will be almost impossible then to refuse any Trade Deals offered to us by other countries no matter how bad the terms.

I'm no fan of self ID either but really.... to suggest that more poor women will be hurt by that than would be hurt by a devastated economy and the removal of employment rights - how can that possibly be? You think self ID is more damaging than the reduction or removal of maternity leave?

katiegoestoaldi · 30/10/2019 08:28

@milliefiori having gone to the tactical.vote website I'm in a safe Labour/Lib Dem seat anyway so my vote won't matter that much anyway, but I'm happy to be corrected

quiteathome · 30/10/2019 08:30

It will have to be Lib Dem, and I am a remainer. Going to have to vote based on Brexit, and worry about their other policies later.

My area is a Tory seat and previously has been a Lib dem seat . (Labour is likely to be a wasted vote anyway. )

The area was a leave constituency at the referendum. So could well go Tory again. Which is even more likely if I don't vote, or if I spoil my ballot paper.

NoWordForFluffy · 30/10/2019 08:30

@katiegoestoaldi, the tactical vote site is not accurate looking at my constituency. You're better looking at the Best for Britain one.

katiegoestoaldi · 30/10/2019 08:39

@NoWordForFluffy I can't see anything on their website to find out how to vote. I have signed up to them, signed their petition and sent an email through their site against a hard Brexit though

Do you have a link to where it will tell me who best to vote for?

NoWordForFluffy · 30/10/2019 08:41

@katiegoestoaldi, here you go: getvoting.org/

There's no data for my constituency yet, but that's understandable (and means I trust it more than anyone who thinks they can call it right now!).

NerdyCurvyInkedandPervy · 30/10/2019 08:55

Anyone who says they aren't voting Labour because of Corbyn is using a pretty poor excuse to justify where their vote is going.

You might as well just stand up and say 'i want the NHS to be privatised. I want our schools to be underfunded. I want nurses to rely on foodbanks to feed their children. I want austerity. I want the well off to avoid paying taxes. I want to work until i drop dead despite having paid into a pension all my adult life. I want to continue watching the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

It is your vote, and you have every right to cast it where you want. But for God's sake, be honest and find a better excuse than 'Anyone but Corbyn'.

CanICelebrate · 30/10/2019 08:56

Conservative

azaleanth90 · 30/10/2019 09:03

Labour remainer in a safe Labour seat with decent but pro-Corbyn MP. I might vote Green, was toying with Lib Dems but not sure about them on NHS. Brexit and NHS are my priorities.

rosie39forever · 30/10/2019 09:06

Am voting Labour as is the only way to get our current lying, hypocrite of a Tory cabinet minister out. Also I'm rather fond of our NHS, people having a fair wage, a good standard of education for all children regardless of how rich their parents are and help and support for sick and disabled people.

BackInTime · 30/10/2019 09:08

@NerdyCurvyInkedandPervy I agree. I think the the message about the NHS is key for Labour. Also remembering that the Boris bus pledge lies during the Brexit campaign was an absolute vote winner for Leave. People do not always care or understand about the intricacies of politics, economics and the EU but they care deeply about the NHS.

HandsOffMyRights · 30/10/2019 09:12

No idea due to all parties' refusal to tackle self ID.

Labour's 'Women's Officer', women's only shortlists and Dawn Butler's comments (to name a few) mean I won't vote Labour. Plus, there's Corbyn himself...

The Green Party and Lib Dems' appointment of Aimee Challenor, along with their views on women makes that another no.

And BJ and the Tories..

May have to spoil my ballot until somebody can show me a party that doesn't prioritise men over women.

KissCurls · 30/10/2019 09:33

@HandsOffMyRights That's my problem too - I don't have a clue how to vote. There's a useful reminder here about how to properly spoil your ballot paper and make your protest vote count:

http://www.votenone.org.uk/protestvotess_count.html

AllTheGoodUNsTaken · 30/10/2019 09:51

Safe Tory seat.
I actually don't mind our Tory MP, but I can't vote Tory. It would be like an endorsement.
I haven't decided yet.

potatoeseverywherepot · 30/10/2019 09:52

Labour with gritted teeth. Brexit is more important to me than all the trans stuff right now.

katiegoestoaldi · 30/10/2019 10:01

@NoWordForFluffy thanks so much. That's just saying Labour

Knowing who to vote for tactically doesn't make the decision any easier

Holding one's nose in the voting booth while voting is perfectly normal behaviour right?!
