Brexit

GE is on! Remainers how will you vote?

Just that really! The General Election is on, either 11th Dec or a few days before but it's going to happen now that Labour have agreed. Tactical voting websites are being prepared as we speak.

If you are a remainer, who will you vote for?

(And if any leavers lurk here, will you vote for Tories or Brexit party?)

OP posts:

@Trewser
Too late for me to give you a proper answer, but, off the top of my head, on the off chance you are actually serious:

Historic demonisation of 'single mothers'
Benefit policies (statistically impact women far more)
Comments by Johnson (eg 'girly swot')
Comments by Cameron in parliament widely supported ('calm down dear')
Macho posturing ( eg 'man up')

SeaWitchly · 30/10/2019 02:03

Anything but Tory... although probably not Lib Dem or Greens due to their non-man, anti woman nonsense.
Most likely to vote for Labour as I like Jezza and think he’ll be a good PM (couldn’t be worse than the last 3 anyway 😁)

Scunnered77 · 30/10/2019 02:35

SNP

pollyputthepastaon · 30/10/2019 02:44

@Theworldisfullofgs it’s because leavers are clever enough to read the entire post. Unlike you Grin

What does the last line of the OP say? Ask a friend to help if you’re not sure.

Pixxie7 · 30/10/2019 03:05

Definitely labour. Don’t trust Lib Dem or tortes.

eurochick · 30/10/2019 04:17

I will hold my nose and vote Lib Dem. their stance on women's issues is bloody awful but Brexit is the more immediate issue.

My constituency will be interesting. It has always been true blue but the current MP is Sam Gymiah who has defected to the Lib Dems and announced yesterday he would be standing in a Kensington. Maybe we will get BoJo...

I'm surprised by the number of remainers saying they will vote Tory. Why on earth would you do that? I ask that as someone who usually votes Tory but there is no way I am supporting this shitshow of a government. It's not like their record on other stuff has been so amazing you can overlook the awfulness on Brexit. I just don't get it.

stucknoue · 30/10/2019 04:42

Safe labour seat, mp is a remainer

tiggertogger · 30/10/2019 04:50

Remainer- I will vote Tory. Only possible path through where we are now and only party showing real leadership.

tiggertogger · 30/10/2019 04:53

@eurochick because, whatever my personal stance on Brexit is, I respect democracy and I believe it would undermine democracy to revoke article 50 or have another vote. You can't reject every result you don't agree with, that's the point of voting. I am aligned to Tory policies on the whole so I can't vote for another party just because of brexit and, in any case, I think the tories have the best route through.

eurochick · 30/10/2019 06:21

@tiggertogger presumably you won't be voting in this election then, because you've voted in one before and to vote again would undermine democracy?

lonelyplanetmum · 30/10/2019 06:29

The only choice is to vote strategically for the party most likely to beat to the current Tory.

In my constituency this means voting Lib Dem as they have the best chance.

Did no one see the Dispatches programme on the NHS? . The current Tories have a right wing agenda. They won't say it -but this means progressively reducing the free basis of the NHS. Progressively further reducing expenditure state education. Progressively further reducing elderly social care. Progressively reducing workers rights. Look at what they DO not what they say.

Look at the voting record of the current cabinet - type in Jacob Rees Mogg for example into the attached voting record link... is that really what people want?

tiggertogger · 30/10/2019 06:49

@eurochick breaking news...a democratic election is not the same as the referendum. If, when the results are announced of this election and labour/lib dems won, I wouldn't expect us to disregard the result and hold another without them gaining power.

NoWordForFluffy · 30/10/2019 06:54

It's a fact that had the referendum been binding, rather than advisory, then the result would've been overturned due to illegality in the leave campaign. The Electoral Commission has confirmed that, it's not fake news.

Is ramming through a result that was illegally-gained democracy? I'm not convinced.

Plus, key word: advisory. It is not legally binding (only politically).

BelleSausage · 30/10/2019 06:54

I’m voting Lib Dem. Even though it will make fuck all difference because my story MP has a majority of 23,000.

All I hope is that will be considerably cut and he might start listening to all the people who have been writing to him about Brexit.

Constantbronchitislaryngitis · 30/10/2019 06:56

I live in a Tory area (sadly for me!)
Who do I vote for to make sure Boris doesn’t get in ??????
I live in a largely jewish area meaning there’s no chance of Corbyn getting in
My husband and I are labour minded but we can’t vote labour as don’t trust Corbyn
Desperately don’t want BJ to win ! Dearrrr god!!

KitKat1985 · 30/10/2019 07:00

Slightly torn here. I'm a remainer and my first instinct is to vote liberal democrat, but considering a tactical labour vote as they stand more chance where I live. However having said that I'm in a Tory stronghold area so chances are no matter what I do Conservatives will win in my area.

NoWordForFluffy · 30/10/2019 07:07

Here's a tactical voting website: getvoting.org/

They'll gather all of the data between now and polling day and tell you where their best guess is for your area. This may change between now and then, but they'll keep you updated.

PeninsulaPanic · 30/10/2019 07:19

Voted to remain in 2016, and haven't changed my mind. On the other hand, I can't vote Lib Dem because of that dreadful creature Swinson and her abominable voting record. Not to mention that revoking A50 as a matter of course on getting into no 10 is no more democratic than the shitty Leave campaign and their electorate-rape propaganda. Whoever gets in, we need leadership by example to begin the hard work of healing the hateful schism in our society. Corbyn, despite his flaws, is the only one who has proposed reconciling both sides. Sadly, his own long-held preference for not being as closely bound to the EU as we've been has been used to discredit his position on the issue. He's not anti-EU, he acknowledges the benefits of soft membership, as do some other very stable countries. But people jump down his throat, and that's a great pity.

Anyway, regardless, our (usually safe) Labour seat gets my loyalty.

InMySpareTime · 30/10/2019 07:19

Even safe seats can be made marginal if enough voters get out there. I've lived in a couple of "safe seats", and one went from a huge Tory majority to a small majority then swung. In my current constituency (which has been blue since it was created) 2017 voters slashed the margin by 70%, now there are only a few thousand votes in it.
Don't despair if you're in a strongly Tory area, even if you can't swing it this time you can erode the majority.
The higher voter turnout is, the better.
You can be sure the diehard nutters will get out there to vote, we need to moderate their influence.

Trewser · 30/10/2019 07:19

Labour's record on women in the party is utterly crap and their insistence on having a trans Women's officer was insulting, so I'll take "girly swot" tbh.

Historic demonisation of 'single mothers don't you mean the Daily Mail?

Skyejuly · 30/10/2019 07:20

Lib dems

GOODCAT · 30/10/2019 07:24

Live in a brexit voting tory safe seat. I generally vote tory, but this time will vote lib dem who always come a distant second. Only voting lib dem as they are in favour of remain.

None of the other parties except the brexit party would get a look in here and the lib dems definitely will not win so it feels more like a protest vote. I think that the Tories will either increase their share of the vote or will share it with the brexit party though.

I want another referendum. Even if it did not go remain's way, it would feel better to be absolutely sure that brexit really is what the majority wants.

katiegoestoaldi · 30/10/2019 07:26

To anyone who votes tory or any "remainer" who has the luxury to throw a tantrum and not vote... Your contributing to far right cunts.

Or maybe I just don't want to vote for a bunch of far left cunts who make promises they can't deliver, will give anti-semites free reign and will decimate women's and children's rights because being woke is the cool option bro

And as I usually vote for Labour, who are currently unelectable so I may just have to spoil my ballot

Brexit may be the biggest shit show but it isn't the only one

Driedlimes · 30/10/2019 07:33

@Trewser
You're looking at the internal party machine (not that I condone it ) not the policies. The latter is what affects most people's lives. Economic policies being the most impactful.

Impact of austerity hit women hardest - check out any reputable source.
Rape clause anyone?
In the 90s single mothers were absolutely demonised by the Major gvt.

I think a narrow focus on the trans issue fails to take into account the experience of the many - which is universally better for women under progressive governments.

I know you will raise me 2 female PMs but that is about the internal machine, not policy.

Anyway, doubt I will convince you & I'm running late for work

FusionChefGeoff · 30/10/2019 07:38

I'm in a pretty marginal seat between Con and Lab.

I've decided (I think) that I am going to vote based on Brexit as that's an irreversible, generational decision whereas everything else can be overturned in 5 yrs (in theory).

So that means voting Labour to secure a 2nd ref. as the Lib Dems don't stand a chance.

Can anyone give me the 5 major downsides to this plan based on policies rather than 'Jeremy Corbyn'??
